Yes, CoronaVirus is not a death sentence: Read this inspiring story

The CoronaVirus (COVID-19) pandemic has taken the whole World by a storm. No single person is safe from this deadly virus. For Bjonda Haliti (a 22 year old American Lady from California), she is smarting out perfectly from the disease. Read her moving story, below, as shared on Twitter;

“I’m 22 years old and I tested positive for COVID-19.

I’ve been debating on posting, but I want to share my experience especially with those around my age to help bring awareness, and to relieve any stress/anxiety some may have due to the pandemic.

Day 1: It started with a mild DRY cough and a slightly sore throat. I was very tired that night.

Day 2: I felt a lot of pressure in my head to the point I would have to cough softly to avoid the discomfort. That night, I experienced the chills and had a fever. One main symptom that stood out to me, my eyes physically hurt. They were tender and sore.

Moving them was uncomfortable. Doing some research I discovered this was just a migraine, but it didn’t go away at ALL. I slept all day.

Day 3: Energy levels VERY low, I only slept, and still ran fevers. At this point, my symptoms were: dry cough, migraine, fever, chills, some nausea. I decided to go to the doctors where I tested negative for the flu and strep.

The doctor told me I probably just had an infection and prescribed me antibiotics and 800mg of ibuprofen. I made sure to stay extremely hydrated and stocked up on vitamins and probiotics. That night, I still ran a fever.

Day 4: Finally no more fever, but a new symptom showed up: shortness of breath. It was uncomfortable, it felt like I had bricks on my chest. I tried the self diagnose test I read online (hold your breath and count to 10) which I successfully did with no complications.

At this point I wanted to test for corona like I should have been in the first place, but It was very difficult to get tested for it!!! I continued to self-quarantine and hydrate hydrate HYDRATE!

Day 5: Symptoms: sore throat, cough, shortness of breath. I went to the same doctor and I was very adamant about getting tested. Doctor said my vitals were “unremarkable” but I wasn’t going to take no for an answer! I also requested chest X-rays, everything came out normal.

I was advised to continue self quarantine, and I would receive my results in 5-6 DAYS!!!!!

Day 6: With the continued use of antibiotics and ibuprofen, my symptoms were: sore throat, cough, shortness of breath. My energy levels began to increase.

Day 7: Symptoms: slight sore throat, mild cough, shortness of breath. Energy levels increasing.

Day 8: Symptoms: Mild cough, starting to feel like myself again. Energy!

Day 9: Symptoms: My cough was a little heavier, normal energy levels.

Day 10: Symptoms: Mild cough, mucus, normal energy levels. My lab results came in: POSITIVE.

I am continuing to self-isolate and take care of myself. Today I am feeling great and healthy! I will need to retest in order to be cleared. That’s if I can find a doctor whose willing to retest me. Haven’t had any luck so far.

My DM’s (Direct Message) will be open to those who have questions, I hope this was helpful. I wanted to let ppl know that if I got through it, so can you!!! Don’t panic if you are feeling symptoms. Take initiative and follow CDC (Centre For Disease Control) guidelines. We’re going to get through this!

I just want to let everyone know that I have been self isolating at HOME as recommended by my doctor. Here’s a picture of the liquids I’ve been taking to stay hydrated! I can’t stress enough how important it is to HYDRATE! Water is most important!

It’s been brought to my attention ibuprofen could worsen symptoms. As stated, I was prescribed these for a bacterial infection BEFORE I was tested for COVID19. I was taking ibuprofen until day 4 where I no longer felt it was necessary.

Everyone is asking how I contracted COVID-19. I don’t know. But I did go out on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and my cough started on Sunday. I believe I was exposed to it at the bar/club one of those days. That’s my guess.

Hence the importance of social distancing! This was at the beginning of the month.

YES I informed everyone I had been in contact with. It was the first thing I did!”

Elderly, Orphans to get paid as Civil Servants wait

Vulnerable groups such as the elderly will now be paid their stipends ahead of civil servants’ monthly pay.

President William Ruto said the move will cushion and enhance their sense of belonging in the society.

He was speaking on Tuesday during the official opening of the Kenya Social Protection Conference at the Kenya School of Government in Lower Kabete.

Under the new scheme, the Government has allocated KSh28 Billion to support cash transfer programmes.

“Such an intervention will address exclusion by increasing the social protection cover of the vulnerable besides ,” said President Ruto.

He noted that this will also support their economic empowerment to enhance resilience.

The President told the meeting that social protection is as urgent as is the country’s economic development.

“It cannot wait until 2030 when we will have achieved our economic vision; we can simultaneously pursue them.”

He said the drive behind the urgency is that “too many people cannot afford a decent living, are vulnerable, marginalised and at the risk of being left behind”.

“Empowering the millions at the bottom of the wealth pyramid will eliminate poverty, reduce inequality and enhance our momentum towards shared prosperity.”

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua observed that the Government is investing in people to enable them participate meaningfully in the economic transformation of Kenya.

Council of Governors Chairman Anne Waiguru said there is increasing momentum towards the expansion of social protection in Kenya in line with the Sustainable Development Goals.

“This is a key step towards eradicating poverty and enhancing prosperity for all,” she said.

A number Members of Law makers have come out to dispel a list doing rounds in social media platforms showing those who tested positive for the dreaded covid-19 disease. First to come out was ubilee Nominated Senator Millicent Omanga, who gave an update on her ststatus, this morning. “I am safe and sound at home. Ignore the rumours circulating,” sais hon. Omanga.

The unverified list of seventeen Legislators said to have tested positive for Covid-19 has been making rounds in the media.

The fake list showing Legislators who purportedly tested positive for the Corona virus Disease.

“I took a voluntary COVID-19 test on Fiiday last week. The result was directly conveyed to me in person by a doctor. Tested Negative. It is my civic duty to continue complying with guidelines. It’s not a matter of choice. At the same time parliament cannot abdicate. Chew gum and walk,” said Siaya Senator James Orengo. The Senator went on to post his Covid-19 test results (shown below).

“As a nation and a people we are in this together and must confront COVID-19 as an army. Fear of the virus should not be turned into stigma but into a resolve to fight the pandemic. Count me in the army,” he added.

School Games: Kisii risks losing hosting rights for the KSSSA National Term 2 Games

Kisii County may be stripped of rights to host the second term National School Games according to latest reports. The Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association, KSSSA, national executive council is considering moving the games away; citing lack of adequate facilities.

Top on the list is the unavailability of a standard stadium to host Soccer matches as Gusii stadium is currently under renovation. The school games that attract mammoth crowds, more especially soccer, must be played in a standard stadium. Last year, soccer matches were played at Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega.

Kisii County Sports Committee had fronted Cardinal Otunga High School Mosocho and Kisii University grounds; but which seemed unsatisfactory. Consequently, the local organizing committee has been given one month to give the final status on preparations.

According to the Ministry of Education Co-Curricular activities’ calendar, Secondary Schools’ Term two games to be held on 29th July to 7th August, 2024. This will involve: Soccer, Volleyball, Netball, Rugby 7’s (Boys and Girls), Basketball 3 on 3 and Racquet Games. Junior School games are also to be staged at the same venue and dates.

KSSSA is mulling taking the games elsewhere with Kisii and Homa Bay being the preferred destinations.

Are you filing your Kenya Revenue Authority, KRA, individual tax returns and having difficulties? Well, here is your ultimate guide on all that you need in order to file your returns, online, successfully. Filing nil returns is pretty easy as compared to individual income tax declarations. for the latter, there are two categories i.e those having withholding certificates and those without them.

Here is all that you need to know and have in order to file your returns:

P9 Form: This is generated by your employer. It is a tax card showing the amounts of tax, relief and gross salary paid by the employer for a particular financial year.
Portal for filing your returns: The KRA returns are filed at the iTax Portal that can be accessed by using the link; https://itax.kra.go.ke/KRA-Portal/
Login credentials: To access the portal, you must be armed with your KRA PIN and Password. In case you have forgotten your password, it can be reset easily and within few minutes.
Procedure for filing individual tax returns: For a simplified procedure for filing individual tax returns, visit:

Type of tax obligation: There are three types of individual tax obligations that can be declared. Income Tax Resident Individual is for Kenyans or residents (living in Kenya). On the other hand, Income Tax Non-resident is filed by individuals in respect of any employment with or services rendered to an employer who is resident in Kenya or to a permanent establishment in Kenya. They are not entitled to any personal reliefs. Finally, the third type of individual tax is Income Tax Rental income. This is tax payable by resident persons on residential rental income accrued or derived in Kenya where the rent income is between Kshs. 144,000 (Kshs. 12,000 per month) and Kshs. 10 million per annum.
Type of return: The type of return can be either original (if filing for the first time for a particular financial year) or amended (if making subsequent declarations/ corrections to the original return declaration).
Return period: This is the year for which a declaration is to be made. It shows the first day of the year/ Return period from (i.e 01/01/2019) and the last day of that particular year/ Return Period to (i.e 31/12/2019).

4 COMMON MISTAKES EVERY BEGINNER IN BANANA FARMING MUST AVOID

Don’t make these mistakes when venturing into banana farming otherwise your farm will never yield.

Mistake No1: Buying unhealthy suckers [seeds].

A farmer should make sure that the suckers bought or acquired to setup a farm are healthy, well treated, and disease free to avoid plants diseases like pathogens, weevils and nematodes which may result into losses.
Untreated suckers or plantlets causes stunted growth, poor seed production and small size fruiting. Therefore, always get suckers from a reliable and healthy source.

Mistake No2: Acquiring infected land.

Most times when you experience poor plant performance and growth, it’s not usually caused by the suckers you purchased no matter how healthy the suckers are. If your land is infected with either nematodes or fungi, the plants will be affected too. Therefore transferring the disease to the plants and any other sucker that will be transplanted in the same farm will be infected too.
So you have to make sure you fumigate the land if you are not sure that the land isn’t contacted with diseases.

Mistake No3: Expecting to harvest 100% of your plants annually!

Like any other business, farming too needs patience. No farmer should expect 100% harvest of his banana at the same time and the same month. For your first year of harvest, you need a lot of patience as some plants might even take upto 16 months to mature and bear a fruit.

It’s therefore advisable to always take the first year of planting as the experimental and practical year of business.
Being patient, steady and focused is the key to make it big time in banana farming.

Mistake No4: Expecting maximum farm harvests minus supervision.

My village friend, a prominent banana farmer once told me this statement that the quantity and quality of your farm produce will always depend on how many footsteps the owner of a farm makes or steps in his farm. That the more the footsteps [supervision], the more the harvests!

Unfortunately many farmers take looking to visit their farm and they leave all farm decisions for their workers as they hustle at their full time jobs which leads to low outputs or losses.
