The National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) is registering all members afresh. The new registration will now be done biometrically. There will be no manual registration of NHIF members and members whose details will not be available online shall not benefit.
NHIF under the guidance of the Ministry of Health has made strides in digitizing its processes to hasten the implementation of the UHC scale up. In collaboration with the National and County Governments, NHIF has registered 1,005,204 needy families from all 47 Counties.
NHIF has also embarked on mass biometric registration of its members including the 1 million needy families. So far mass biometric registration has been carried out in Laikipia, Nakuru, Homabay, Kisumu, Tharaka Nithi, Taita Taveta, and Nyeri Counties.
Alongside the mass biometric registration exercise, NHIF has embarked on deploying Electronic Claims Management System (E-Claim) to all NHIF contracted hospitals and has so far covered hospitals in Western, Nyanza, Central, Coast, parts of Nairobi, Eastern and, Rift Valley regions.
The remaining regions will be covered in the next one month. As NHIF undergoes digital transformation within the UHC framework, adequate measures have been put in place to ensure that members receive efficient services.
Previously, members used the National Identity card and NHIF card as a mode of identification which will be replaced by a biometric mode of identification and verification.
NHIF members are advised that the switch from manual to electronic claims processing will be done immediately after deployment of the E-Claim system. The last switch-off is planned for 11th of July, 2021. Subsequently, all NHIF contracted hospitals will submit claims through the E-claim platform to improve efficiency, reduce fraud, wastage, and abuse.
How to register biometrically
The procedure for Biometric Registration is as follow:
NHIF member to visit the nearest NHIF service point or contracted health care provider and produce identification documents i.e., a copy of National ID/ NHIF card for verification in the database.
Once verified, members fingerprint details will be captured.
New members will also be registered biometrically to the NHIF database and issued with a registration number.
When a member visits an accredited facility of choice, they will be identified using their fingerprint or One time password (OTP)
All members and their dependents to visit the nearest NHIF service points or contracted hospitals countrywide to be biometrically enrolled.
For more information, contact NHIF on toll-free number: 0800 720 601.

International School Sport Federation (ISF) president Laurent Petrynka (in yellow top) attends the 21st edition of the FEASSSA games in Mbale City of Uganda. He was flanked by Justus Mugisha (in suite) and who is the President of USSSA and FEASSA.
Recap of the 2024 FEASSSA Games in Mbale, Uganda.
Speaking during the closing ceremony of the 21st edition at Bukedea Stadium in Mbale Uganda, Feasssa president Justus Mugisha challenged Kenya to showcase a world class championship.
“This year’s (2025) edition was a very special one. The athletes played on first class facilities in schools that were built to host the 21st edition of the games. Uganda has set the bar very high in as far as hosting these games and Kenya have a huge task of pushing it even higher,” said Mugisha.
After 10 days of riveting action, Uganda retained the overall title after winning 38 medals-13 gold, 14 silver and 11 bronze medals.
Kenya settled for second spot with 27 medals –11 gold, 10 silver and six bronze medals, an improvement from last year when the country bagged a modest medal tally of 23 (eight gold, seven silver, and seven bronze).
Rwanda finished third with one gold, one silver and three bronze medals while Burundi, returning to the games after many years, won gold in boys’ volleyball.
Football titles
The Burundians finished ahead of Tanzania despite having the smallest contingent in the championship.
Uganda also reigned supreme in the primary schools’ category with nine medals, with Kenya and Tanzania finishing second and third with eight and seven medals respectively.
Kenya once again missed out on the football titles as Ugandan reigned supreme with St Noa Secondary School winning the girls’ title, while Amus College dethroned 14-time champions St Mary’s Kitende in the boys’ section.
Butere Girls Secondary School and Musingu Boys High School won silver and bronze respectively.
Kenya won the boys’ athletics gold, but lost the girls’ title to the hosts in the hotly contested two-day showpiece.
Kenyans reclaimed the rugby 15s and boys’ hockey titles from the Ugandans. All Saints Embu and Musingu High School bagged their maiden rugby 15s and boys’ hockey titles respectively to add to their national crowns.
St Charles Lwanga won silver in boys’ hockey while former East Africa champions St Anthony’s Kitale finished out of the medal bracket for the first time in many years after losing 1-0 to Ntare School in the third-place play-off.
Clean sweep
St Joseph’s Girls led Kenya to a clean sweep in girls’ hockey, dethroning Nyamira Girls who finished second while national champions Tigoi Girls were third.
Kenyan teams also defended the rugby sevens title with Vihiga Boys High School thrashing national champions Bwake High School 26-0.
St Joseph’s were crowned the inaugural girls’ rugby 7s champions after beating compatriots Kinale Girls 8-5 in sudden death.
It was sweet revenge for Kesogon Secondary School as they beat seven-time holders Kwanthanze Secondary School in straight sets to snatch the girls’ volleyball trophy.
However, Kenya lost the boys’ volleyball title to Burundi’s LT Saint Luc after national champions Cheptil lost in the semis. Last year’s winners Namwela and Hospital Hill were eliminated at the group stage.
Kenyans also excelled in racquet games with the boys’ and girls’ tennis teams striking gold. They won silver in badminton boys and bronze in the girls’ contest.

Nyeri To Host 95th Edition Of The Annual National Music Festivals
Preparations for the 95th edition of the National Music Festivals which kickoff in Nyeri next month have started.
This year’s annual festivals are set to take place at the Dedan Kimathi University of Science and Technology between August 11 and 21 under the theme Nurturing Talent for Innovation and Development.
During a visit to Nyeri County, the Kenya National Music Festivals organizing committee confirmed that more than 130,000 students from public and private schools as well as Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) centres will be taking part in the annual event.
“The participants who will qualify in the regional festivals which are currently ongoing will arrive in the county on August 11. The presentations will start on August 12 and run through to August 22 when we will have the Gala. The State concert which is the closing event will be held on August 23,” said the Central Region Director of Education, Sabina Aroni.
On his part Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga assured the organizing committee of his government’s full support and ensure that the event is successful.
The Governor said the county would deploy adequate traffic marshals to help reduce the expected traffic congestion expected due to the large number of participants who will be thronging the county for the two weeks.
At the same time, curtains for the central region Music Festivals which are currently taking place at the Nyahururu Boys Secondary school in Nyandarua County will close on Sunday. This year’s regional festivals attracted 40,000 participants from the five counties of Kiambu, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Nyandarua and Nyeri.
According to Aroni, the primary school category wound up their presentations on Wednesday this week while the last presentations from the secondary school category will be made over the weekend.
“The schools that qualified at the county level are the ones who have been battling it out at the regional level. The adjudicators in the different categories have been judging their presentations since Sunday this week. The last batch of presentations will be judged on Sunday when the regional level competition comes to an end,” said Aroni.
The recent outbreak of the novel coronavirus, Covid-19, has taken the whole World by a storm. An infected person can spread the infection to a healthy person through eye, nose and mouth, via droplets produced on coughing or sneezing. Other modes of transmission include close contact with infected persons and contact with contaminated surfaces, objects or items of personal use.
The surest way of dealing with Corona Virus is preventing it; From washing your hands with soap to using hand sanitizers.
One of the easiest ways to avoid the spread of COVID-19 is proper, consistent hand hygiene. Wash your hands for at least 20 seconds with running water. Wash your fingertips and under your nails. Wash your hands after every trip to the bathroom, blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing and before eating. Remember to Wash your hands quickly after coughing, sneezing, or dealing with sick people.
Here is a list of items that you may need to have;
HAND SANITIZERS
Hand sanitizers are rubbed on the hands to provide the first line of defence against the virus. The best sanitizers are those that are alcohol based.
