Individual candidates can check their KCSE results by sending an SMS with their full index number (11digits) followed by the word KCSE. The SMS can be sent from any subscriber’s line (Safaricom, Airtel or any other) to 20076. For example, send the SMS in the format 23467847002KCSE to 20076. There should be no space left between the index number and the word KCSE.

One can also download the whole school’s KCSE results by Visiting the Official KNEC exams portal; https://www.knec-portal.ac.ke/.  This one requires the school’s log in credentials.

Finally, candidates can visit the school for their results. This is usually a day after the results have been released. It is important that you check your result slip to ensure there are no errors on it. Be keen to see that details such as your name, index number and sex are accurate. Schools eyeing 2019 KCSE candidates to register them as repeaters

Secondary schools are eyeing thousands of 2019 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education, KCSE, candidates who failed to get the minimum University entry grade so as to enroll them to repeat; this year. In passionate messages circulated on Social Media platforms, the schools seek to recruit candidates who scored mean grades of C- (minus) and C (plain).

Most schools are offering various incentives so as to attract as many repeaters as possible in what is seen as a move to increase their overall performance.

“Good morning. kindly connect me to any candidate who scored a C (plain) and C-(minus) respectively in last year’s k.c.s.e and he/she is willing to repeat for a free scholarship,” reads one of such messages.

Other schools are even ready to offer more incentives, including: paying registration fees for the repeaters and giving them pocket money.

“Are you a candidate who sat for K.C.S.E. 2019 and obtained C (plain) or C-(minus) and you believe that you can add value again at ….. partnering with well wishers is willing to give a SCHOLARSHIP to you in 2020 in form 4 so that u can unleash your full potential,” reads yet another message.

According to the latest circular from KNEC, the registration of candidates for the 2020 KCPE, KCSE and KCSE QT examinations will start from 2nd January 2020 and end on 15th February, 2020.

“Any 2019 female candidate with a mean grade of C and wishes to repeat form four 2020. Full year fee shall be provided,” read,  yet,  another advert.

The government of Kenya pays examination fees for all candidates in public and private schools except repeaters, prisoners, private candidates and non Citizens.

A total of 697,222 candidates sat the 2019 KCSE exams in 10,287 centres countrywide; with 63, 102 scoring C (plain) and 83,358 others managing C- (minus).

These candidates are eligible to join diploma courses, but others may opt to repeat so as to try and achieve university entry. A total of 125,746 candidates scored mean grade of C+ and above in KCSE 2019 exams.

Schools open for 2020 first term on January 6.

TSC list of shortlisted teachers, deputies for administrative, headship, vacancies: Machakos County list and interview dates

Important update for teachers who applied for administrative posts in Machakos County. Get to see the list of shortlisted candidates, interview dates and other requirements;

The Teachers Service Commission, TSC, has released the lists of shortlisted candidates for the various administrative posts that it had advertised in August, 2019. TSC had advertised 6,043 promotion/ administrative vacancies. Of these, 2,310 are for head teachers(T scale 10; Grade C5) while, the remaining 3,733 are for Deputy Head teachers II (T scale 9; Grade C4). Applications were submitted online and Shortlisted candidates have been invited for interviews at varied dates and venues. The lists of shortlisted candidates feature: the advert numbers, TSC Numbers, Names, Teachers’ Stations, Sub-county, Interview dates, Venues and time. For Homabay County the teachers will attend interviews on December 2 to 3, 2019.

WHAT TO CARRY TO THE INTERVIEWS

Shortlisted candidates will be required to present the following documents during the interviews:

  • 1). Certificate of good conduct
  • 2). Clearance Certificate by the Higher Education Loans Board, Helb.
  • 3). Clearance Certificate from EACC
  • 4). Clearance Certificate from a Credit Reference Bureau
  • 5). KRA tax compliance certificate.
  • Academic and Professional documents
  • TPAD hard copies for 2017, 2018 and 2019.

REQUIREMENTS FOR APPOINTMENT

According to the TSC advert, for one to be appointed to the grade of Head Teacher, a teacher must:-

  1. Be serving under career progression guidelines
  2. Have served as Deputy Head Teacherfor a minimum period ofthree (3) years;
  3. Be currently serving as Deputy Head Teacher II TSC Scale 9;
  4. Be in possession of a Bachelor of Education degree or its equivalent;
  5. Have satisfactory rating in the performance appraisal;
  6. Meet the requirements of Chapter Six (6) of the Constitution;
  7. Have demonstrated ability to supervise, mentor and provide professional support.

On the other hand, one must meet the following requirements in order to qualify for appointment to the grade of Deputy Head Teacher II:-

  • i. Be serving under career progression guidelines
  • ii. Have served as Senior Teacher for a minimum period of three (3) years;
  • iii. Be currently serving as Senior Teacher I T- Scale 8;
  • iv. Be in possession of a Bachelor of Education degree or its equivalent;
  • v. Have satisfactory rating in the performance appraisal;
  • vi. Have demonstrated ability to supervise, mentor and provide professional support to other teachers;
  • vii. Meet the requirements of Chapter Six (6) of the Constitution; and
  • viii. Meet any other requirement the Commission may deem necessary.

New TSC salaries for secondary school Teacher III (Job group J/ Grade C1)

TSC Secondary Teacher III are Secondary school teachers in grade C2 (formerly J). Grade C1 is an entry grade for secondary school teachers who are holders of Diploma in Education. These teachers earn monthly basic salaries of Sh27195-33994.

The basic salaries for these teachers are paid depending on the areas where they work. Teachers who work in Nairobi get a slightly higher house allowance compared to those teaching in rural schools. But, all these tutors earn an equal amount of monthly commuter allowance; which is Sh4,000.

To know your exact salary, check your current salary (under the current salary column) and move along the row to the right. what you see under gross pay is what you will earn before deductions.

Those working in hardship areas (get Sh8,200) plus those handling physically challenged students get extra allowances.

Remember, the commission pays a flat rate of Sh4,000 per year as leave allowance. This is paid together with the January salaries.

I met this graduate teacher, sometimes back, who was so desperate for TSC employment. The teacher was willing to pay the price if only there could be assurance of clinching that elusive TSC job. After many years of attending interviews, in vain, the teacher was so disappointed that all this while there was no chance of getting into the TSC payroll.

Many desperate graduate teachers have fallen prey to conmen and women who promise to deliver TSC employment leeters. Truth be told these fraudsters have no connections at the Commission and hence end up piling more misery on the desperate job seekers. But, did you know that you can enhance your chances of getting TSC employment ahead of your competitors? It is so easy. Consider the following and maximize your chances.

TSC MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Before you dive into the teaching profession, ensure that you have read and understood the current minimum requirements for one to be certified by TSC. For example, if you are intending to pursue a Bachelors of Education Degree Programme you must have scored a minimum of a C+ in each of the two teaching subjects you wish to teach at high school. This requirement has locked out many graduates. For instance, if want to be a Maths/ Physics Teacher then you must have a minimum of a C+ in each of these two subjects. Again, it is prudent that you choose your teaching subjects carefully.

In short, select the two subjects where you have performed well. This is because in case of a tie during the TSC recruitment interviews, then the panelists will consider the performance of the tying applicants at KCSE. SUBJECT COMBINATION

The subjects you choose to study at the university or college play a significant role in terms of how fast you will be absorbed by TSC. I never to to say this but some subjects are more marketable than others. This is simply because some subjects are flooded with unemployed graduates. PERFORMANCE AT KCSE AND UNIVERSITY/ COLLEGE

Your KCSE mean grade sometimes come in handy during TSC recruitment sessions. In case two applicants tie, then the panelists will have a look at the candidate with stronger KCSE certificate. Strength of your diploma or degree certificate also plays a key role on the marks you garner, according to the latest TSC Recruitment guidelines and marking scheme. 

PARTICIPATION IN CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES.

Applicants who actively participate in Co-curricular activities have a upper hand in clinching TSC slots. Try to at least participate in one or two Co- curricular activities and ensure you are certified or given a recommendation letter to that effect.

The first impression you create lasts longer. Be smart during interviews. Try to be eloquent. Above all be sincere.

Unfortunately, or fortunately I should say, the current TSC recruitment guidelines and marking scheme favours graduates who have stayed out longer. The longer you stay out the more marks you are awarded.

Mulutu Girls Secondary School was started in 1987 by mulutu community as a day girls school and became a full boarding girls school in 1991. It had been a single stream up to 2008. From 2009, it became a double stream to date and hope to expand to three streams. The school enrolment has increased from the initial 25 students in 1987 to 389 students in 2019. The school had been a district girls school up to 2012 when it was upgraded to a county school in 2018, it was again upgraded to an extra county school.
