Scheduled Knec Exams postponed as a result of the Coronavirus lock-down

The Kenya National Examinations Council, Knec, has postponed examinations that were to kick off this month as a result of the CoronaVirus shutdown. This is after the government ordered for a total close down of all learning institutions across the country in order to curb further spread of the deadly virus. Consequently, the exams council has taken this drastic move ‘in compliance with the Presidential Directive on suspension and closure of all learning institutions to control and manage the spread of COVID -19 virus.’

Via a circular dated Monday March 16, 2020, Knec Acting Chief Executive Officer (Dr. Mercy Karogo) advises that ‘Business and Technical theory examinations scheduled to start on Monday, 23rd March, 2020 have been postponed until further notice.’

But, according to Dr. Karogo, ‘Business and Technical Practical/Oral examinations scheduled to end on Friday, 29th March, 2020 shall continue as scheduled.’

‘The Diploma in Teacher Education examinations shall continue until Friday 20th March, 2020 and thereafter be postponed from Monday, 23rd March, 2020 until further notice,” She adds in the Circular.

This comes even as the fate of reopening of the closed institutions remains unknown as the Government puts up Spirited efforts to Control the Disease.

Dr. Karogo says ‘the Council shall review the directive from time to time and communicate when the postponed examinations will resume.’

The Council is yet to give an update on the fate of the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education, KCSE, and Kenya Certificate of Primary Education, KCPE, examinations; more so, status on upload of the 2020 Project based milestone one marks and data considering the fact that the deadline for uploading the same (onto the Knec portal) is March 31, 2020 and schools have been closed down.

PRECIOUS BLOOD KILINGU SECONDARY SCHOOL’S BRIEF HISTORY

Precious Blood, Kilungu was founded as a mission in 1940 before an intermediate school was established six years later. It remained so for 15 years when it became a secondary school in 1961, the year it adopted the name, Precious Blood Secondary – Kilungu. Students then sat for the British Cambridge system.

The school grew steadily, thanks to the Harambee spirit of the 1970s and 1980s. Most of these fundraisers were graced by retired President Daniel arap Moi

The fame of Precious Blood schools rests on academic exploits, but Kilungu also has excelled in German cultural festivals (and German is offered as course), the President’s Award Scheme and essay writing competitions.

The school where long serving principal, Sr Mary Engelberta Frohlich, retired in 2004 after 15 years, has something else that’s specific to it: cleanliness.
