History of Egerton University

Egerton University is the oldest institution of higher learning in Kenya. It was founded as a Farm School in 1939 by Lord Maurice Egerton of Tatton, a British national who settled in Kenya inthe 1920s. In 1950, the School was upgraded to an Agricultural College offering diploma programmes.

The University currently has over fifty-one (52) academic departments that offer a wide range of programmes at the diploma, undergraduate, and postgraduate levels. The departments are spread over 10 faculties namely Agriculture, Arts and Social Sciences, Commerce, Education and Community Studies, Engineering and Technology, Environment and Resources Development, Health Sciences, Science, Law and Veterinary Medicine and Surgery. Additional courses are offered by the Institute of Women, Gender and Development Studies and College of Open and Distance Learning. we have over 215 academic programmes with more than 5000 courses.

General Admissions Criteria

Diploma qualification – Mean grade of C Plain and cluster requirements for the course applied for.

Degree Programmes and in-service candidates must meet the requirements set up by the Joint Admissions Board.

In-service candidates must possess a Diploma with a CREDIT PASS or a PASS with at least 2 years working experience in the relevant field.

SELF SPONSORED

Candidates must possess a mean grade of C+ and above in the relevant field of study or A-Level pass with at least 2 principals. In-service candidates must possess a Diploma from a recognized institution with a credit and above in the relevant field

Masters applicants should have a minimum of an upper second class honors degree from a recognized University

  • Ph.D applicants should have a Masters degree from a recognized University.
  • Scholars, professionals and policy makers stands to benefit from the school’s programmes
