GALANA TEACHER TRAINING COLLEGE HISTORY
Galana Teachers Training Collegewas established by the community in 2013 and was registered by the Ministry of Education to offer Primary Teacher Education Certificate (P1) and Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) and diploma courses in on 16th July 2016.
On 9th March 2021 the College was re-registered to offer Diploma in Primary Teacher Education (DPTE) and Diploma in Early Childhood Teacher Education (DECTE).
The College also offers upgrade programs from P1 and ECDE Certificate to Diploma in Primary Teacher Education (UDPTE) and Diploma in Early Childhood Teacher Education (UDECTE)

GALANA TEACHER TRAINING COLLEGE KUCCPS PLACEMENT REQUIREMENTS.
Applicants seeking a chance in the primary TTCs must have at least a mean grade of C (plain) in KCSE or equivalent, while those seeking enrolment into Diploma in Secondary Education are required to have a minimum of C+ in KCSE or equivalent. Those with other qualifications different from KCSE should seek equation from Kenya National Qualifications Authority (KNQA) to enable them to apply.

TEACHER TRAINING COURSES OFFERED AT GALANA TTC
The College, being aPrimary Teacher Training College, offers the Diploma in Primary Teacher Education (DPTE) Course. The minimum entry grade for this course is just a C (plain) at KCSE or its equivalent.
An applicant selected to join Galana Teachers Training Colleg becomes a bona fide students through the process of registration.
The requirements for registration are as follows:-

A student who for any reason, fails to register at the college for admission on the officially specified date will not be readmitted but will be made to apply afresh through Ministry of Education Science and Technology. A student selected to join a particular public Teacher Training College cannot transfer to another without the authority of the Ministry of Education. A student who is found with forged certificates will not be registered but will be handed over to the police.

GALANA TTC GENERAL RULES AND REGULATIONS FOR STUDENTS
People who are training to be teachers should be able to understand the necessity of rules and regulations in any organization.
Students are therefore, expected to co-operate. The following rules and regulations should be strictly observed by all the students.
Courtesy
All the students should speak and behave respectfully at all times. They are therefore required to refrain from behaving in any manner that is unbecoming of Machakos Teachers’ College Community including abusing and/ or causing injury to others.
Punctuality/ Time Management
All the students are expected to be punctual for classes, meals, meetings, games, sports, clubs, societies and any other scheduled college activity. Attendance and punctuality on flag hoisting days is a must; all students are expected to be in full college uniform during assembly days and any other college official functions.
Assembly
Any assembly organized by students can only take place with the authority of the Principal or any staff acting on behalf of the Principal. Should students plan for farewell parties, the celebrations should end not later than 6.30 pm.
Worship
Students worship services will be between 8.30 am and 10.30 am within the college. All denominations should respect each other and perform their prayers within scheduled times as per the College routine. Quiet prayers are preferred.
Visitors
Students’ visitors are permitted only on Saturdays and Sundays between 8.00 am and 6.00 pm. For security reasons, visitors are not allowed to enter into the hostels at any time.
NB: Ex-students are visitors and should not be entertained around the hostels without permission.
Illness
Students are not allowed to be in their hostels during scheduled College activities without the knowledge of the Matron, Nurse and/ or Hostel Supervisor. The Hostel and class secretaries should report cases of sickness to the Nurse and/ or the Tutor on duty if the sick student is unable to report the same personally.
Mobile Phones
Students are not allowed to use their mobile phones during class, in the library and during prep times. Kindly switch off the mobile phone during these times. Students are advised to take care of their phones while charging.
Food
The College does not provide special diet. Any student on a special diet must make his / her own arrangements without involving the
college. All food should be taken in the Dining Hall. Meals should not be taken outside the dining hall or in the hostels.
Smoking
Smoking is bad for your health. Consequently the College abhors the habit in its premises. PLEASE NOTE THAT MACHAKOS
TEACHERS’ COLLEGE IS A “NO SMOKING ZONE.” A student contravening this is liable to suspension / exclusion from the college.
Hostels
The premises are strictly out of bounds to all students of the opposite sex and visitors at all times unless authorized by the Principal or a staff acting on behalf of the Principal. Culprits will be expelled.
Lights
Lights must be put off by Class Secretaries in the study rooms by 10.30 pm and Hostel Secretaries by 11.00 pm. All lights not in use should be off at all times.
Noise
Students should not annoy others by means of radios, TV’s, musical instruments or any other form of noise.
Cleanliness
All students should make every effort to keep the college compound clean and tidy by putting litter in the dustbins. Students should keep to the paths when crossing the college compound. They should also perform duties assigned to them so as to keep the environment clean.
College Dress Code
Personal hygiene; which includes grooming and decent dress is an important aspect of the teaching career. Please note that Jeans trousers and other indecent attires such as “see-me-throughs” are not allowed to be worn by lady students. Bathroom slippers are not allowed to be worn outside the hostels. Such attires will be confiscated and the culprit punished. Please refer to the TSC code of dressing.
College Property
All College Property should be used with care. Any loss, damage or misplacement should be reported immediately to the Principal’s
Office by those responsible. Switch off lights and turn off water taps when not in use. Establish the habit to assist the college save on
unnecessary wastage of electricity and water. Use of water heaters, electrical cookers and radios is strongly prohibited. Students who damage the college fence will be penalized.
Personal Property
All the students are expected and/ advised to take care of their personal property. No student may possess other students’
property without first obtaining permission from the owners of such property. However, students are hereby advised not to bring
expensive items to the College. Stolen phone cases will not be entertained.
Alcohol and Drug Abuse
Ours beings an educational training institution, the consumption of alcohol and harmful drugs in and/ or out of college is prohibited.
Culprits of the same are liable to exclusion/ suspension from the College.
Absence from College
All the students should not leave College without written permission. Leave of absence will be given out to students after Saturday General Cleaning and Inspection at around 11.00 am or so and on Sunday throughout the day when there are no scheduled college activities. However, no student should be out of the college compound after 6.00 pm on any given day. Any student who absents himself or herself from the college for 2 weeks, will be deemed to have deserted the course and will automatically be discontinued.
Staff Quarters
Staff quarters are out of bounds to all students except on official business, for example reporting an illness to the nurse, the tutor on duty and/ the Principal. Students who are relatives to staff must obtain permission from the Dean of Students whenever they want to visit their staff relatives’ houses on the compound.
Student’s Identity Card
It is advisable for each student to have a valid Students’ College Identity Card. The ID must be carried any time one goes outside the college compound.
Electrical Gadgets / Appliances
Any unauthorized electrical gadgets are prohibited and shall be
confiscated if found and the owner punished by paying Kshs. 5000.00 Electricity Bill and/ one year leave.
Tribal Groupings
Tribal groupings are not allowed in the college.
Official Languages
The official languages in the college are Kiswahili and English. Avoid use of mother tongue as it does not add value to your core business in the college – ACADEMICS.
Pornography
Access to pornography is a very serious offence and culprits will be expelled from the college.
Abortion/ Sneaking/ Theft/ Threatening/ Fighting
These offenses are very serious and will attract a penalty/
punishment of one year leave.
Bus Fare
Students should make arrangements to have their fare in good time. The college does not provide bus fare for any student.
RECRUITMENTS FOR DIPLOMA IN PRIMARY AND EARLY CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT TEACHER EDUCATION (DPTE AND DECTE)
The following are the recommended admission requirements for the Diploma in Primary & Early Childhood Development Teacher Education in Kenya.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE DIPLOMA IN PRIMARY TEACHER EDUCATION (DPTE)
a) Diploma in Primary Teacher Education (Grade 1-6) entry grade is KCSE Mean Grade of C (Plain) or its equivalent with a C (Plain) in the following cluster subjects.
i. English and Kiswahili;
ii. Mathematics;
iii. Humanities (Any);
iv. Sciences (Any).
b) For candidates with disabilities the minimum entry grade is C- (Minus) and a C- (Minus) in the cluster of subjects stated above.
c) The duration of the course shall be three (3) years in accordance with the approved Curriculum designs.
d) The Trainees shall be required to cover the recommended hours for coursework, required hours for practicum and pass the assessments as directed by Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC).
e) The Teacher Trainee shall undertake three months micro-teaching course which is a pre-requisite for teaching practice.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE DIPLOMA IN EARLY CHILDHOOD TEACHER EDUCATION (DECTE)
a. The academic entry requirements for the Diploma in Early Childhood Teacher Education (DECTE) shall be C (Plain) Mean Grade in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (KCSE) or its equivalent (as equated by the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC).
b. Candidates with disabilities shall be admitted with C- (Minus) grade in KCSE or equivalent.
c. The duration for the Diploma in Early Childhood Teacher Education (DECTE) shall be three (3) years.
d. The trainees undertaking the Diploma in Early Childhood Teacher Education (DECTE) shall take ALL courses specified in the DECTE Curriculum.
e. The trainees shall undertake a Micro Teaching course of three (3) months which shall be a pre-requisite for the Teaching Practicum of two school terms.
f. To be awarded the Diploma in Early Childhood Teacher Education (DECTE), the candidate must complete the required hours for coursework and pass the stipulated assessment as directed by the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC).

The TTC, just like other TTCs, offers training for both Science (Diploma in Education Science) and Arts (Diploma in Education Arts) teachers. The diploma course lasts for 3 academic years. I. Attendance to College activities
a) Attendance to scheduled activities is COMPULSORY. These include lectures, assemblies, sports and games etc

II. Progress in Training.
Performance while in training is continuously assessed and monitored. There will be internal (College) and external (KNEC) assessments. For the internal assessments progress report will be issued every term.
III. Spiritual Welfare
The College is multi-denominational. Each one is free to practice one’s faith provided that by doing so, the rights of other students and residents are not prejudiced or compromised in any way.

A DPTE Teacher Qualifies to teach in grade 1-6 (or 9 if one meets TSC employment terms for secondary school teachers) of the Kenyan Education .
This programme is now being replaced from 2024 with Diploma in Teacher Education (DTE) which is a combination of DECTE and DPTE. The graduates will teach from PP1 to Grade 6.

There are two ways to apply to Vocational and Training Institute; physically collect the application letter from the institution’s admission office. Apply through the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS). As this is an online application, you must carefully follow the instructions given to ensure a successful application. The process is as given below;
Click on the apply now tab and choose your preferred programme.
Once a course is successfully selected, the website automatically redirects you to the student portal for KUCCPS.
Click on the log-in prompt. You will be prompted to enter your KCSE index number, year of completion, and password as previously selected.
On a successful log-in, click on institutions. Scroll through the list of available TVET colleges and select the TVC.
The screen displays the college and all the courses on offer for that academic year.
Click on the course you want to apply. A 7-character code appears; note this down.

Plans to upgrade Mawego technical training institute to a national polytechnic are at an advanced stage, Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu has disclosed.
The CS said there are plans to establish a technical college in every constituency as enshrined in the Kenya kwanza manifesto. “We will also establish one national polytechnic in every county progressively,” the CS said.
Machogu said this in a speech read on his behalf Friday by Tom Maluti the technical and vocation training director during the graduation ceremony at Mawego TTI which saw 2433 trainees conferred with various certificates and diplomas.
Earlier, Nyatike MP Tom Odege requested for the establishment of a national polytechnic in lower Nyanza region.
The CS commended Mawego TTI board of governor’s leadership and strategic management team for carrying out infrastructural development to the tune of Sh 17 million from their own savings.
“This is extremely commendable. As government we are emphasizing homegrown solutions in government institutions as opposed to relying on government to supply funds which is not sustainable,” he said.

Established in May 2012, Kenyenya Teachers Training College replaced Kisii Teachers College, which was previously integrated into Egerton University and later became Kisii University. Sponsored by the Ministry of Education, specifically the State Department of Basic Education, the college’s main responsibility is to train teachers for primary schools, covering early childhood to senior primary levels.

THE TTC MINIMUM DIPLOMA IN EDUCATION COURSE QUALIFICATIONS:
The TTC, just like other TTCs, offers training for both Science (Diploma in Education Science) and Arts (Diploma in Education Arts) teachers. The diploma course lasts for 3 academic years. It is a pre-requisite from the Ministry of Education that aspiring secondary school teachers should have the below minimum KCSE qualifications for entry into DTE (Diploma in Teacher Education) course. Here are the latest general minimum requirements for students seeking to pursue teaching:

Mathematics: D+ (plus) for those taking education arts and C (plain) for those hoping to undertake training in education science.

d) Students taking Biology, Chemistry and Physics should bring white polyester Laboratory coat
e) Science and Mathematics students should also bring a Scientific Calculator, graph book and SMP Advanced Tables 3rd edition.
f) Students are highly encouraged to come with their Smartphones, Personal laptops / Tablets

Duly completed Medical Examination Form – NB: The College reserves the right to conduct its own medical examination on any student at any time (see attached medical form.)

I. Attendance to College activities
a) Attendance to scheduled activities is COMPULSORY. These include lectures, assemblies, sports and games etc
– No exemption can be granted from participation in College activities/routines on grounds of religious beliefs or philosophy.

II. Progress in Training.
Performance while in training is continuously assessed and monitored. There will be internal (College) and external (KNEC) assessments. For the internal assessments progress report will be issued every term.
III. Spiritual Welfare
The College is multi-denominational. Each one is free to practice one’s faith provided that by doing so, the rights of other students and residents are not prejudiced or compromised in any way.
IV. Clubs and Societies
Students are expected to be members of at least one and a maximum of three Clubs/Societies.

DIPLOMA IN PRIMARY TEACHER EDUCATION (DPTE)
A DPTE Teacher Qualifies to teach in grade 1-6 (or 9 if one meets TSC employment terms for secondary school teachers) of the Kenyan Education .
This programme is now being replaced from 2024 with Diploma in Teacher Education (DTE) which is a combination of DECTE and DPTE. The graduates will teach from PP1 to Grade 6.

Course Duration: DPTE will take three (3) years of study in accordance with the approved Curriculum designs.
The diploma teacher trainees will cover the recommended hours for coursework, required hours for practicum and pass the assessments as directed by Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC).
The Teacher Trainee shall be required to undertake three months micro-teaching course.
The Teacher Trainee will undertake 2 terms of practicum.

Topmax College Under Investigation Over Unauthorized TVET Courses.
Topmax College, located in Embakasi, Nairobi, is currently under scrutiny following allegations that it has been offering Unauthorized Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) courses. The courses, encompassing critical fields such as mortuary science, theatre technology, and ICT, have not received approval from the pertinent accrediting authority.
Both students and their guardians are now voicing concerns regarding the implications of these developments. They are apprehensive about the time and financial resources expended, coupled with increasing anxiety that their academic achievements may be rendered invalid.
In spite of their diligent attendance in classes, payment of fees, and efforts towards obtaining professional qualifications, recent revelations have left numerous individuals uncertain about their academic prospects.
Citizen TV conducted interviews with first-year students Nelly Mutiwa and Rose Wambua at Topmax College in Pipeline, who exhibited noticeable distress after their visit to the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TVETA). The students discovered that only 12 courses at the college had received official approval for instruction.
Nelly recounted their attempt to verify the institution’s licensing, during which they were informed that the college was authorized to teach only a restricted number of programs. Rose explained that upon confronting the director, they were told that the courses in question lacked approval and that an investigation would commence following the students’ submission of a formal complaint.
Another student, who chose to remain anonymous, divulged that suspicions had been present even among former students, some of whom found their certificates rendered invalid when seeking employment. This same student mentioned that when they sought a meeting to discuss these issues, they were offered refreshments instead of the requested answers, and their numerous attempts to engage with the administration had been disregarded.
TVETA Report Highlights Irregularities
According to a report from TVETA acquired by Citizen TV, Topmax Training College—owned by Jephiter Omeke Obiri—manages two TVET-registered institutions: one located in Pipeline and another within Bee Centre in Umoja, Nairobi.
The Pipeline campus is authorized to provide instruction in Automotive Engineering, Building Technology, Certified Public Accountants, Accountancy at craft and diploma levels, Plumbing, Science Laboratory Technology, Business Management, Fashion Design and Clothing Technology, Food and Beverage Production, Sales and Service Management, Electrical and Electronics Technology (power), and Child Care and Protection.
At the Bee Centre, only Criminal Justice Management and Journalism and Media Studies are accredited.
Notwithstanding these restrictions, it has been reported that hundreds of students have enrolled in programs that lack accreditation, casting significant doubts on the quality and recognition of their qualifications. One concerned parent mentioned that they had grown suspicious after their child reported an incident at the school, wherein students were questioning the authenticity of their certifications. This prompted further investigation on their part.
Topmax College’s 24-page brochure advertises 37 certificate and diploma programs under its School of Business, many of which have allegedly been evaluated by KNEC. Other organizations listed include JP-UK (an international examiner), ICM, ABMA, and KASNEB. The School of ICT, lacking accreditation from TVETA, offers 12 programs under similar examining bodies.
Moreover, 15 courses are offered under the School of Engineering.
Alarming Student and Parent Experiences
One student who has been enrolled for two years expressed their dissatisfaction, disclosing that they had never received any transcripts despite having taken examinations each semester. They further asserted that the instructors were often unqualified, with professional tutors frequently departing mid-term, resulting in learners being instructed by interns or individuals undergoing teaching practice.
A parent also stated that they attempted to verify an instructor’s name on TVETA’s trainer portal but found no corresponding entry, thereby raising further concerns about the college’s staffing standards.
TVETA Director General Dr. Kipkirui Langat confirmed that Topmax is presently under investigation following numerous complaints from students and members of the public. He acknowledged that several courses under review—such as nutrition, nursing, and mortuary science—had not been officially licensed.
However, college director Jephiter Omeke Obiri defended the institution, asserting that they had already submitted an application for accreditation and were simply awaiting official approval. He elucidated that the college offers four types of programs: fully accredited, those under interim accreditation, those that have been inspected but are awaiting licenses, and others that are in the process of accreditation.
This assertion, however, seems inconsistent with TVETA’s regulations. Dr. Langat clarified that training institutions are mandated to publicly display both their registration certificate and license. He cautioned that certain colleges continue to offer unlicensed courses, which contravenes TVETA protocols.
License Misuse Allegations
Additional allegations purport that Topmax is operating two institutions in Nakuru under a single license. Although the director contends that the Nakuru campus exclusively offers education-related programs and is categorized under the Department of Basic Education, the institution’s promotional materials suggest otherwise.
The promotional documentation identifies three campuses—two in Nairobi and one in Bahati. It indicates that while the Nairobi branches are under TVET, the Bahati campus functions under the Ministry of Education to provide educational programs.
Dr. Langat emphasized that licenses are granted based on facility inspections, and they cannot be transferred to uninspected locations. He clarified that should a new site be intended, a fresh application must be presented for approval.
Some students have already initiated legal actions, reporting the issue to Kware Police Station. They accuse the college of soliciting fees under false pretenses and are demanding a refund of their payments.

Award of Diploma

The entry requirements for the Upgrade Programme to Diploma in Primary Teacher Education (UDPTE) is a Certificate in Primary Teacher Education (PTE) and TSC Registration Certificate.
Duration and Structure of the UDPTE Programme
The duration for Upgrade to DPTE shall be four (4) school terms, three (3) terms will be used for coursework and one (1) term for practicum. The coursework may be offered either in a full time mode or blended mode of study. In a full time study mode, all learning sessions will take place in the institution during school days. In the blended mode, students shall take some learning sessions in the college during school holidays and engage in self-study through projects and assignments during the school term in a distance under the supervision of college tutors.

The teachers pursuing the Upgrade Programme to DPTE shall take all professional courses specified in the DPTE Curriculum as well as Subject areas they did not specialize in during the PTE Programme. THE TTC MINIMUM DIPLOMA IN EDUCATION COURSE QUALIFICATIONS:
The TTC, just like other TTCs, offers training for both Science (Diploma in Education Science) and Arts (Diploma in Education Arts) teachers. The diploma course lasts for 3 academic years. It is a pre-requisite from the Ministry of Education that aspiring secondary school teachers should have the below minimum KCSE qualifications for entry into DTE (Diploma in Teacher Education) course. Mathematics: D+ (plus) for those taking education arts and C (plain) for those hoping to undertake training in education science.

c) You should bring a Geometrical Set, Pens, ruler, pencils, erasers, sharpeners, spring files, A4 Exercise Books and a minimum of one ream of ruled foolscap.
d) Students taking Biology, Chemistry and Physics should bring white polyester Laboratory coat
e) Science and Mathematics students should also bring a Scientific Calculator, graph book and SMP Advanced Tables 3rd edition.
f) Students are highly encouraged to come with their Smartphones, Personal laptops / Tablets
HEALTH REQUIREMENTS
Duly completed Medical Examination Form – NB: The College reserves the right to conduct its own medical examination on any student at any time (see attached medical form.)

a) adequate personal clothing; Nyeri can be chilly during the cold seasons, early mornings or late evenings you are advised to carry warm clothing.

I. Attendance to College activities
a) Attendance to scheduled activities is COMPULSORY. These include lectures, assemblies, sports and games etc
– No exemption can be granted from participation in College activities/routines on grounds of religious beliefs or philosophy.

II. Progress in Training.
Performance while in training is continuously assessed and monitored. There will be internal (College) and external (KNEC) assessments. For the internal assessments progress report will be issued every term.
III. Spiritual Welfare
The College is multi-denominational. Each one is free to practice one’s faith provided that by doing so, the rights of other students and residents are not prejudiced or compromised in any way.
IV. Clubs and Societies
Students are expected to be members of at least one and a maximum of three Clubs/Societies.

LUGARI TTC LOCATION
Lugari Diploma Teachers Training College is a government owned TTC that is located in Western Kenya in Kakamega County, Lugari Sub County, in Munyuki Sub-Location, approximately 35kilometres from Eldoret Town on Uganda – Webuye Road, between Turbo township and Kipkarren River township, 4 km from the main Eldoret-Malaba road, in a serene and cool environment next to Lumakanda DEB Primary School.
BRIEF HISTORY OF LUGARI TTC
The concept of starting a Public Teacher Training College was first mooted in 2013. Lugari community was keen on having a Teacher Training College started in the sub county. It was largely felt that the establishment of the College other than assisting students from all over Kenya would encourage students from the Secondary and Primary schools within the Constituency/County to uplift their performance, and also stir economic growth in the region.
It was an initiative of the Community through the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) and Ministry of Education. It is managed by a Substantive Board of Management appointed by the Cabinet Secretary – Ministry of Education. The College was cleared by The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) and received its first batch of students in September 2015/2016 Academic Year. Initial Officers included the first Principal Mrs. Anne Esese and the Deputy Principal Mr. Joseph Ngecho. They were later joined by other Lecturers.

The annual tuition fee for TVET courses at many Kenyan Technical and Vocational Colleges (TVCs) is Ksh 67,189. This includes a government capitation of Ksh 30,000 per trainee, leaving a balance of Ksh 26,420 to be paid by the student, which can be paid in installments. Additionally, students may be eligible for a HELB loan of Ksh 40,000. Other potential costs include KUCCPS registration fees, industrial attachment fees, and examination fees.

Following your placement, you are eligible for a Government scholarship, Loan and Bursary to assist with your educational expenses. If you need Government financial support, you MUST make an application for consideration through the official website www.hef.co.ke. In the case Government scholarship, Loan and bursary do not cover the entire cost of your program, the deficit will be met by your parent/guardian.
