Nakuru County to host the 8th edition of Inter-County Games

Nakuru County will host this year’s edition of the Kenya Youth Inter-County Sports Association Games (KYISA).

Over 3,000 youth aged between 18 and 25 years will compete in more than 10 disciplines in the 8th edition of the games that will run from April 17th to 24th.

While noting that the games were not held last year following the outbreak and spread of the Covid-19 pandemic, County Chief Officer for Sports, Dr William Migwi confirmed that he had received the letter of authority to host the games from the County Assemblies Sports Association (Casa) National organizing committee.

Kwale County Government hosted the seventh and second editions of Kenya Youth Inter-County Sports Association Games while Busia hosted sixth and Nandi the fifth edition. The fourth series of the games were held in Makueni, the third in Siaya and the inaugural in Laikipia.

While speaking to members of the press in his office after a planning meeting between the County Directorate of Sports and the National KYISA Executive Committee Dr Migwi said all the 47 counties have confirmed participation in the event that will feature athletics, football, netball and volleyball.

Other disciplines that will be staged include badminton and table tennis among others. The event is also anticipated to turnaround the struggling local hospitality and tourism sectors due to a large number of visitors expected.

“The one-week event will provide a platform where national teams scout for talents to participate in the national teams. It comes at a time the County administration is investing heavily in sports,” stated Dr Migwi.

Dr Migwi said the teams to represent Nakuru County will be selected competitively in the Ward level across the region. He stated that the devolved unit has prioritized harnessing and developing skills among the youth.

“Developing sports sector is a major focus of the County administration, while keeping in mind that sports can provide youth with avenues to self-reliance.

Sports are nowadays a life changer if taken seriously. If you pursue sports as a career it will be a source of income and that is why we have heavily invested in this sector,” said the chief officer.

Dr Migwi said the county administration was increasingly tapping sports talent among the youth and will use KYISA games to advance that.

“As a county we will use these games to tap talent and we will support our youth to establish themselves,” noted Dr Migwi.

The Chief Officer also pointed out that the games will foster cohesion and patriotism in the country. “We need to use sports to build bridges of friendship and prosperity,” he added.

KUCCPS Inter-university Transfer: How to Change Your College Placement Today

KUCCPS Inter-university Transfer: How to Change Your College Placement

Learn how to transfer your college placement through the KUCCPS Inter-university Transfer process. Step-by-step guide for a smooth transition.

Every year, KUCCPS gives students a time frame to change the universities and colleges placed. Within this period, you can apply for a transfer to another university through the KUCCPS student portal.

While you are doing the inter-university or TVET college transfer on the portal, you have a chance to change the course you were placed in, if you need to.

Normally, all TVET and undergraduate courses are allocated by KUCCPS against the backdrop of the stated capacity in the particular institution the student wants to pursue a course. However, competition and cluster points also come into play when the capacity is very low.

There are reasons why you may want to change an institution. Maybe you want to do Nursing and it is not being offered in the university you were placed.

Whatever the reason, use the following guidelines to apply for transfer from your current institution to another of your choice:

Step 1: Check Requirements for Inter-University Transfer

  • To be eligible for transfer, KUCCPS must have placed you in the programme you want to transfer from.
  •  You should confirm that you meet the minimum requirements for the course you want to pursue. Some courses like education do require students to have scored at least a mean grade of C+ and at least C+ in the two subjects the students want to teach. At this point, you should check the core subjects required for your desired course and minimum grades affixed to them.
  • You should meet the cut-off point for the course in the respective placement year. In this case year 2019.
  • The course you applied for must have been offered in the year you were placed.
  • You can only apply to transfer to one programme.
  • You will only transfer once for the duration of the programme placed.

Step 2: Login to KUCCPS Portal

Head over to student.kuccps.net Student’s Portal. Click on Login and enter your login details:

Your KCSE full index number, the year you did your KCSE, and the password. Password is your bath certificate number or your last KCPE index number.

When you hit ENTER, you are brought to the Dashboard. There should be a message congratulating you and indicating the course and institution you have been placed in.

If you are happy with the results then you don’t have to change the university or college. Otherwise, read on.

Step 3: Selecting the Course

Click on the Programmes tabs to go to the programmes page. You will see categories of courses grouped as Degree Programmes, Diploma Programmes, Certificate, and Artisan Programmes.

Scroll down or search the course you want and follow the link to reach the minimum requirement page for that particular programme.

See also:   How to Check if Your HELB Loan is Disbursed, Application Status, 2024

Under available programmes, look for the university or college you want to transfer to. You may want to click on the institution acronym to reveal the full name of the institution.

Check your cut-off points against the current year’s cut-off points  column. Your points should either be less or equal to that of the institution you want to transfer to.

Once you have settled on the program you want to undertake, note down the 7 digit programme code for that particular institution you want to transfer to.

Step 4: Apply for the University Transfer

Click on the Transfers tab and go through the instructions in the Transfers dashboard. Once you are satisfied, click on the Transfer Application tab.

You will see your initial placement and a box to enter the 7 digit code you noted down earlier.

Enter the code into the box and move to finalize the application details and state the reason for the transfer.

Step 5: Application fee payment

An application processing fee of Ksh1,000 is charged per application. A prompt for the M-PESA transaction code will appear at the point of submission. Keep the transaction code safe as it may be required again.

CAUTION! Do not make any payment before you are prompted to pay or after the application deadline has passed!

Only pay when you reach the stage you are told to pay the processing fee. The pay bill number and the full account number will be displayed at this stage.

Payments to KUCCPS are made through Business Number 820201. The account number follows the format; enter your KCSE Year and KCSE Index Number (no space). Please confirm the details before sending the payments.

Step 6: Submit the Application to the Receiving Institution

Upon receiving the application, the receiving institution, or the institution you want to go to, will endorse the transfer applications through their online portal and submits them.

The releasing institution (where you are currently placed) will then receive the applications and clear you through their institutions portal and submit.

The endorsed applications then reach the KUCCPS CEO for approval. At this stage, KUCCPS will generate a transfer letter which can be accessed by you the student and the two institutions involved.

Step 7: Download the University Transfer Letter

You can then download the approved transfer letter through the KUCCPS portal and present it to the new institution for admission.

Once you have made an application for transfer, you can monitor the progress of your application via the KUCCPS student portal.

Co-curricular activities, school games suspended

There will be no more co-curricular activities, any time soon, after the ministry of education ordered that all unspent funds be reimbursed immediately. By the time schools closed in mid-March most term one activities were at county level. But, it is the latest circular from the ministry that has put to an end any hopes of staging the activities even if schools were to reopen in September, as proposed by the national covid-19 education response team.

The state department (of early learning and basic education) disbursed co-curricular funds for the current financial year in the month of March, 2020. But since some funds were not spent, the ministry now wants them returned to Jogoo house so as to be redirected elsewhere.

“This is to direct that the unspent balances for those activities that never took place to be refunded back to the state department by 10th June, 2020 so that the same can be used in other areas.” says Dr Belio Kipsang whose is the department’s Principal Secretary.

A spot check by this reporter showed that accounting officers (County and Sub-county directors) were in a catch 369 situation to put their records in order. This involves preparation of vouchers for the already spent amounts.

SEE ALSO;

Among the recommendations from the national covid-19 education response committee (that were forwarded to education CS Prof Magoha on Friday) was to suspend all co-curricular activities when schools resume to curb any further spread of the deadly virus to the learners.

The body that runs sports in secondary schools has urged the ministry not to suspend games activities when schools resume. The Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association, KSSA, is saying sports forms an integral part of the learning process and should not be overlooked.

The government allocates a total of Kshs 1,500 per secondary school student under the FDSE capitation programme. While, parents are expected to top with Kshs 798 for learners in Category ‘A’ boarding schools. Category “A’ boarding schools are National schools and Extra County schools situated in Nairobi, Mombasa, Nakuru, Kisumu, Nyeri, Thika and Eldoret.

For Category ‘B’ boarding schools, parents top up with Kshs 250 per learner in a year. Category ‘B’ schools are boarding schools and Extra County schools in all other areas. For learners in Day Secondary schools, the parents are not expected to pay any monies towards the activity fee.

Each sub-county, county and regional office received Sh280,000, Sh1.5 million and Sh2.5 million to run the term one activities. Read details here; Education Ministry- How Co-Curricular funds are to be shared between schools, Sub- Counties, Counties and Regions.
