KNEC Sends 2023 KCSE and KCPE Certificates to Schools

KNEC Sends 2023 KCSE and KCPE Certificates to Schools

The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has declared the transmission of certificates for the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) candidates.

In a statement published on X, KNEC confirmed that the certificates have been distributed via Sub-County Directors of Education throughout the country.

“Candidates are advised to coordinate with the schools where they undertook the examinations in order to collect the certificates,” the council articulated.

KNEC further cautioned that it is unlawful for any school to retain a candidate’s certificate, urging students encountering such difficulties to report to the Sub-County Directors of Education for assistance.

This follows a directive issued by Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba on March 24, 2025, warning school principals against retaining certificates for any reason, including unpaid school fees or lost property.

“Holding a student’s certificate upon completion of school, whether due to outstanding fees, lost books, or damaged property, is illegal,” Ogamba stated.

He provided a 14-day ultimatum for the release of all withheld certificates, stressing that schools must explore alternative methods to recover any outstanding debts.

The handing/ taking over exercise for the administrators is expected to be completed before schools open for first term on January 6, 2020.

Those moved are heads and principals and their deputies serving in their home counties and those who have served in the same station for a long period. Also on the move are new administrators who were appointed after the just concluded interviews .

Teachers with medical conditions have been spared from the ongoing delocalization exercise. Also spared are teachers aged above 56 years and those set to retire.

The Commission kicked off the delocalization exercise in January, 2018. Other massive deployments would then follow in April, August and December of the same year. Though in April, 2019 the Commission slowed down the transfers as only a handful administrators were moved.
