Universities are the highest learning institutions in Kenya and the World over. They offer training majorly in undegraduate and Post Graduate Studies. In Kenya, the Courses offered in the Universities must be accredited by the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Services, KUCCPS. It is the same body that selects and places students to higher learning institutions; Universities, Colleges and Polytechnics. To qualify for University placement one must attain the minimum set Mean grade and particular course requirements. Each Course offered at particular university has its own cluster cut off points, though. Most university courses take a minimum of 4 years; while, some take even more. An academic year at the university takes two semesters of three months each. University students get fees loans from various organizations. Top on the list is the Higher Education Loans Board, HELB, that advances both loans and Bursaries. [wpedon id=”734″]   Universities run online platforms; portals and websites, where such services as admission application, online accommodation booking, E-learning, exams results downloads and many are provided to students, staff and the general public. On admissions, most universities have admissions in May and September for new students. Various learning modules are provided at the universities. These learning modules include: Full time, School Based, Distance Learning, Evening & Weekend classes and E-Learning.

Master of Science in Epidemiology
Master of Science in Medical Education A Bachelor’s degree with a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0 (B average) on a 4.0 scale OR An Upper Second Class Honours in a relevant degree programme or an equivalent qualification from recognized University. In exceptional cases, the Senate may also admit to the Masters Programme candidates with Lower Second Class Honors degree but with proven relevant research, professional and scholarly experience. Subject to approval by the Senate, Departments may formulate regulations requiring applicants to have attained other academic qualifications as may be consistent with the goals of the Master’s programme.  Candidates may be invited for interview to assess their suitability for admission.

Bachelor of Science in Community Health and Development  The common regulations for all BSc. Degrees in the University shall apply. In addition to the above the candidate must either Be a holder of KSCE (OR Equivalent Examination) Certificate with a minimum aggregate of C+ (plus), a minimum of C (plain) in Biology and chemistry and C (plain) in English/Kiswahili and Mathematics or Physics OR Be a holder of KACE with minimum of two principal passes including Biology and a subsidiary pass in Chemistry, Mathematics or Physics OR Be a holder of a Diploma or Higher National Diploma in Clinical Medicine, Pharmacy, Community Health & Development, Human Nutrition, Medical Laboratory Sciences, Nursing, Public Health, Health Records and Information Management or the equivalent of any of these qualifications as approved by Senate.Candidates with a Diploma and/or Higher National Diploma (HND), with a Credit pass may, at the discretion of the MUST Senate, be exempted from one academic year of study.
Bachelor of Science in Health Systems Management
Bachelor of Science in Health Records and Information Systems Be a holder of KCSE Certificate with an aggregate of C+ (plus) and C (plain) in Biology and both Mathematics and English/Kiswahili OR Holder of a Diploma in Health Records and Information Systems from an Institution recognized by MUST Senate OR KACE Certificate with a minimum of two principle passes including Biology and a Subsidiary pass in Chemistry, Mathematics or a pass in Mathematics at KCSE level.

University of Eldoret announces reopening dates

The University of Eldoret has announced the reopening dates for all students. The university that was closed in March this year, due to the covid 19 pandemic, will open its doors to students on 12th October, 2020.

Here is the presser from the university;

SUBJECT: REOPENING OF THE UNIVERSITY ON 12TH OCTOBER, 2020

The above subject refers.
This is to officially inform all students that after the presidential address on reopening
of the universities, the university senate in its 71st meeting held on Thursday 1st October, 2020 approve the reopening of the university in phases as follows:

  • All fourth year students (main and town)
  • All postgraduate (main and town)
  • All Engineering)
  • All diploma final year students (town)

The above mentioned groups to report to the university on 12th October, 2020 (see attached opening dates and other important dates for various activities).

Other classes (third, second and first years (2019/2020) to see the attached schedule on their opening dates.

Kindly adhere strictly to the scheduled timelines.

You will be expected to adhere to the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Health protocols on curbing of the spread of Covid-19. Students are expected to come with their face masks.

Sat for your KCSE examination and attained the minimum University Entry Grade and have been selected to join the Co-operative University of Kenya (COPUK)? Well. Congratulations for this your major achievement. Students joining the Co-operative University of Kenya (COPUK) are selected by the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service, KCCPS. The students are selected after doing their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education, KCSE, examination and getting the minimum University entry requirement. The KCSE students must first apply to KUCCPS to be selected to preferred programmes. The students can apply at school level or apply individually during the first and second revision windows.

Once the applications are closed, KUCCPS then places the KCSE students in preferred courses depending on the student’s score, number of available vacancies against applicants among other selection criteria. Nairobi university is the best university in Kenya: World university ranking list

The University of Nairobi (UoN) has been ranked at position 1,294 out of twenty thousand universities worldwide according to the latest list from the 2020-2021 Center for World University Rankings. The Center for World University Rankings (CWUR) publishes the largest academic rankings of global universities.

From the East Africa region Uganda’s Makerere lead with a score of 70.8% to clinch position 923 in the whole world. Tanzania’s Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS) which is a public university in Dar es Salaam became the only other university apart from Makerere and UON to be ranked after finishing at position 1835 (66.4%).

Rwanda, South Sudan and Burundi failed to have any of their universities in the world ranking list. From the horn of Africa all the four countries (Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia and Somalia) also registered no universities in the list.

In the African continent South africa’s University of Capetown took position one with a score of 77.3% (position 268 in the world). It was followed by University of the Witwatersrand (77.2%, position 275) and Stellenbosch University (75.0%, position 429); both from South Africa.

Harvard University from the United States of America (USA) took top spot in the whole world with a perfect score of 100%.

According to another list released by Webometrics ranking of world universities in 2019, UoN was ranked number nine in Africa ahead of uganda’s  Makerere University; which was placed at number eleven. UoN was also among top 1000 in the world after it was ranked 990 worldwide.

Bondo TTC (popularly known as BOTECO) is a public Teachers’ Training College which is located in Bondo town of Siaya County; within the Nyanza region of Kenya. It is situated along the Bondo-Usenge Road.

Intakes for new students to TTCs usually occur in August/September, every year.

TTCs offer training for both Science (Diploma in Education Science) and Arts (Diploma in Education Arts) teachers. The diploma course lasts for 3 academic years. It is a pre-requisite from the Ministry of Education that aspiring secondary school teachers should have the below minimum KCSE qualifications for entry into DTE (Diploma in Teacher Education) course. Here are the latest general minimum requirements for students seeking to pursue teaching:

  • Mean grade: C+ (plus)
  • English: C (plain)
  • Mathematics: D+ (plus) for those taking education arts and C (plain) for those hoping to undertake training in education science.

ABOUT KMTC

Situated about three kilometers on the northern side of Nairobi city, Kenya, KMTC headquarters and the main campus, Nairobi, stand on a 20-acre piece of land, opposite Kenyatta National Hospital, along Old Mbagathi Road. With over 34,000 students attending more than 70 medical courses, KMTC makes the biggest single contribution to the health sector in Kenya and is currently producing more than 8000 graduates every year for both the Kenyan public and private health sectors, accounting for more than 80 percent of the hospitals’ workforce. The institution boasts of a highly qualified and experienced teaching and administrative staff. It has a strength of over 1,900 members of staff. Entry Requirements:

To join KMTC to pursue a certificate course, you must have a minimum of C- with specific qualifications in cluster subjects in Kenya Certificate of Secondary Examinations. For diploma programmes, you must have attained a minimum of C with specific qualifications in cluster subjects. Upgrading courses require that a candidate has a certificate in a respective field while for higher diploma programmes, candidates must have attained a diploma course as per the following guidelines. The following table is a summary of the requirements for courses offered:

Meru TTC is located along the Meru- Maua road in Meru county; within the Eastern region of Kenya.

MERU TTC APPLICATION FORM & INTAKES REQUIREMENTS

Intakes for new students to TTCs usually occur in August/September, every year.

MERU TTC COURSES APPLICATION PROCEDURE VIA THE KUCCPS STUDENT PORTAL

This is the main procedure through which you can file your application.

  • Applications are made online at the Kenya Universities & Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS)’s website: – www.kuccps.net on specified dates when the site is announced open for applications. However, students who miss this dates may apply directly to the College.

  • Applicants who sat for KCSE in 2011 and previous years and have not benefited from any Government Sponsorship are also eligible to apply.

If you did not manage to get placement via KUCCPS, then you still can get one via the TTC. Simply contact the TTC for direct admission. (See contacts below).

MERU TTC MINIMUM DIPLOMA IN EDUCATION COURSE QUALIFICATIONS:

TTCs offer training for both Science (Diploma in Education Science) and Arts (Diploma in Education Arts) teachers. The diploma course lasts for 3 academic years. It is a pre-requisite from the Ministry of Education that aspiring secondary school teachers should have the below minimum KCSE qualifications for entry into DTE (Diploma in Teacher Education) course. Here are the latest general minimum requirements for students seeking to pursue teaching:

  • Mean grade: C+ (plus)
  • English: C (plain)
  • Mathematics: D+ (plus) for those taking education arts and C (plain) for those hoping to undertake training in education science.
  • Two specialization subjects (subjects you intend to teach at high school): C+

Congratulations for getting admission at Meru University after your successful application. Students joining Meru University are selected by the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service, KCCPS. The students are selected after sitting their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education, KCSE, examination and getting the minimum University entry requirement. The KCSE students must first apply to KUCCPS to be selected to preferred programmes. The students can apply at school level or apply individually during the first and second revision windows.

Once the applications are closed, KUCCPS then places the KCSE students in preferred courses depending on the student’s score, number of available vacancies against applicants among other selection criteria. In not satisfied with the University that you have been selected to join then you can apply for Inter-Institution Transfer.

The placement body then announces the selection results and students can access the admission lists and download their admission letters.

To download the Meru UniversityAdmission letter;

  1. Access the KUCCPS Admission Letters Link at https://student.must.ac.ke/
  2. Enter your Registration Number and Password. (If you RESET PASSWORD, you will be able to login with your National ID or Phone Number as password .Note: Enter your registration number in UPPERCASE to login)
  3. Click on Log in. Locate the Admission Letter download tab and click on it to download it.
  4. Print the Admission letter and read the instructions keenly. In case you have queries, please direct them to the University by using the official (provided) contacts on your admission letter.
