Various accredited universities offer Courses in Education for prospective students who want to be teachers. The universities have course specific requirements for the various Arts and Sciences courses. They also offer various teaching subjects combinations. Here are the Education courses offered at the Kabarak university and links to their application portals:

THE KABARAK EDUCATION COURSES

[wpedon id=”734″ align=”center”] The university offers a wide range of education courses in its Faculty of Education. Minimum University entrance Bachelors Degree requirements

Bachelor’s degree programmes require a minimum mean grade of C+ (C Plus) in KCSE. OR
A minimum of Credit Pass at diploma level or equivalent qualifications from recognized institutions. OR
2 Principal Passes at ‘A’ level obtained at one sitting OR two Principal Passes obtained at different sittings provided the scores are of grade C and above.
Applicants must also meet additional entry requirement as may be specified by respective departments.
Applications from mature students will be considered subject to them satisfying the University’s Conditions of Admission.
Diploma holders in teacher education with a minimum of C+ at KCSE and two years’ experience in teaching.
P1 teachers certificate holders with a minimum of C+ at KCSE and two years of teaching experience.

BACHELOR OF EDUCATION (SCIENCE) COURSES/ SUBJECTS COMBINATIONS

The university offers Bachelor of Education (Science) course in the following teaching subjects: Mathematics, Physics, Biology, Agriculture, Chemistry and Computer studies. A student can choose a combination of two subjects from those listed here. BACHELOR OF EDUCATION (ARTS) COURSES/ SUBJECTS COMBINATIONS The university also offers Bachelor of Education (Arts) course in the following teaching subjects: English, Literature, History, Music, Geography and Kiswahili. A student can choose a combination of two subjects from those listed here. Bachelor of Education Course Requirements:

Mean grade C+ (Plus) at KCSE and at least C+ in each of the two teaching subjects,
2 principal passes at A’Level and 1 subsidiary in relevant subjects,
Diploma in Education (May be exempted in relevant units).
P1 teachers must have scored C+ at KCSE to qualify.

Family’s agony as teacher goes missing after marking 2019 KCPE Exams

A teacher’s family in Karabondi; Homabay County is at pains after the teacher went missing immediately the marking exercise for this year’s Kenya Certificate of Primary Education, KCPE, was completed.

The teacher, one Mr Odumbe Moses who plies his trade at Kogana Primary in Rachuonyo North, left his home on November 8, 2019 to mark the KCPE exams in Nairobi. Unfortunately, according to his wife (Joyce Odumbe) the primary school teacher has not returned home long after the exam results were announced. To make matters worse his mobile phones have been switched off and no one knows his whereabouts.

Mr Odumbe arrived at the 2019 KCPE marking centre in St Georges Girls High School on November 10, and later left. Attempts to reach him on phone have been futile since his phone is switched off.

The family sent this note on Facebook to try and trace Mr Odumbe;

“Kindly let me bring this to your attention. We have a case of a missing person; his name is Mr Moses Odumbe who is a teacher at Kogana Primary School in Karachuonyo East, Rambira Location, Karabondi. He went for KCPE marking at St Georges, Nairobi, and since November 14, 2019 nobody knows his whereabouts and his phone has been switched off. The case is with the police and we as a family request anyone with any relevant information to please notify any nearest police station or contact Joyce Ochieng (his wife)…”

The 2019 KCPE results were released on Monday November 18, 2019 by the Education Cabinet Secretary Prof George Magoha. Over 7,000 examiners were contracted to mark this year’s KCPE Insha and Composition papers. The other papers were marked by the new optical mark recognition (OMR) marking machines acquired by Knec.

How to check 2020 form one admission results via SMS code and download letters; Ultimate guide

The selection exercise for the 2020 placement of form ones is now complete. To know the National, Extra County or County secondary school that your child has been selected to join, send an sms of the child’s full index number to 22263. Learners will also be expected to download their letters through the Ministry of education’s online portal. The admission letter is important to both students and Parents/ Guardians. This is because it enables the two parties to prepare adequately for reporting to selected secondary school. The reporting date for the 2020 form ones is between January 13 and 17.

To download the admission letter to Secondary Schools:

Then, Select the county and sub-county where your KCPE centre is located and key in your index number and Submit.
Click on the link named “admission letter” at the bottom of the page for a copy of your admission letter.
Use the printer icon to print or download icon to download to your computer.
Get your primary school’s headteacher to endorse the letter and stamp it in the space provided.
Finally, present it for admission together with a certified copy of birth certificate

Here are some of the common details on the form one admission letters:

All the admission letters bear the Ministry of Education’s letter head; The letter contains the Education Ministry’s logo and head.
Name of the student, Index number and Sub County,
School admitted to (The Secondary school where the student has been placed),
Reporting date; Which is in January, 2020. The reporting date for 2019 was 7th to 11th January.
Former primary school’s details; the letter must be stamped by the head teacher, A disclaimer on the letter reads; “This letter will be authenticated on being duly certified by the primary school head complete with a certified copy of birth certificate and finally confirmed by the admitting principal. The letter is issued without any erasure or alteration and cannot be changed through any form of endorsement whatsoever; utterance of false documents is an offence punishable by law.”
The 2020 fee guidelines from the Ministry (The letter gives fees directions thus; “The maximum fees payable per year is detailed in the attached schedule, do confirm the category of your school before making any payment.”)
Parents/ Guardians expected to go to schools where their kids have been placed to pick further joining instructions and requirements. (“Urgently get in touch with your new principal at the above school for admission requirements,” says the admission letter from the Ministry.)

KICD and Startimes Kenya in partnership to provide education content to learners

The Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development, KICD, has entered into a partnership with pay TV company, Startimes, to broadcast online lessons to learners. The partnership will see StarTimes Kenya provide access to KICD approved curriculum on their digital television platform. The same materials will also be available on the company’s mobile application, StarTimes ON. The content will at the same time relayed on various TV channels available on Startimes.

Dr. Sara Ruto, the Chairperson KICD Council, said the new move will see learners access learning materials conveniently and that this is expected to broaden the coverage area; and this would see more households covered.

“The Covid-19 pandemic has pointed out a new feature of digital learning, we need to embrace it for the sake of our children and together we will be able to grow. One of the core competencies in the Competency-Based Curriculum is learning to learn, this is an opportune moment to put it to practice with such partners key in enriching the future of learning,” said Dr Sara Ruto while making the partnership public.

Dr. Sara Ruto; the chairperson to Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) Council.

Dr Joel Mabonga, the KICD Acting Chief Executive Officer, was all but praises over the new partnership noting that this would provide the much needed boost in achieving their goals. The CEO welcomed the move noting the partnership will grow the number of platforms available to engage students who are learning at home with the content accessible on the mobile application being a strategic option given the high mobile penetration in the county.

“We need to go out of our ways to make sure that learning continues even under the current Covid-19 situation as we establish strategic partnerships that will help us achieve our mandate as an institute tasked with a national responsibility of developing curricula and curriculum support materials informed by research for all levels of education below the university,” said Dr Mabonga.

“We have partnered with KICD to allow us carry approved education content on our platforms. Currently, we have ensured that EDU Channel is available through our set top boxes as a free to air channel and uploaded approved primary and secondary school curriculum on our StarTimes ON mobile application platform key in ensuring the majority of students have access to the education materials,” said StarTimes Chief Executive Officer Mr. Andy Wang.

The ministry of education together with other partners is relaying TV, radio and online lessons to millions of learners at home in a bid to try and recover lost time; occasioned by the current closure of all learning institutions. Learners continue to follow the interactive online lessons at home tuning to KBC English Service and Radio Taifa for radio programmes and EDU TV channel and the Kenya Education Cloud for interactive lessons.

2019 KCSE results out before Christmas, marking starts this week; details

The results for this year’s Kenys Certificate of Secondary Education, KCSE, exam will be out before Christmas. This is according to Education Cabinet Secretary Prof George Magoha.

While speaking at Kapisisiywa Secondary School in Nandi, last week, the CS said the Ministry together with the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) have put in place measures to ensure the results are released in good time. “What I assured the president and the Public earlier on was that we shall go to Christmas after we have known how the children performed,” Prof Magoha said. Magoha said early release of the examination results will enable parents and guardians to plan on how to manage their finances well and not to spend everything on merry making during this festive season. The CS presented a cheque of Sh100 million to the school. The cheque was a donation from the President towards the Construction of a Library and Offices; being an appreciation to the 2019 Best Athlete Eliud Kipchoge.

On Saturday 30^th November 2019, a team from TVET Authority broke the good to trainers and adjudicators during a national drama and film workshop held at the Kenya School of Government-held at Kabarnet -Baringo County.

The TVETA team led by Deputy Director of Outreach Bibiana Otieno informed the over 400 participants that one of the Authority’s functions is to promote access and relevance of training programmes within the framework of the overall national socio-economic development plans and policies.

Afrikaloan offers loans ranging from KSh 500 to KSh 50,000 (up to a USD 550 equivalent). The loan repayment terms are up to 52 weeks and our customers can always pay their loans off in advance. Annual interest rates for regular clients range from 10% to 182.5%, depending on your loan’s terms. Interest rates are calculated depending on various factors, such as your repayment history and the cost of lending for Afrikaloan. There are no extra fees or charges and there is no collateral necessary. Standard SMS charges, payment system (M-Pesa) fees and your mobile carrier’s data charges may apply.

Here’s how interest rates are calculated:

For example, if you are issued a loan in the amount of KSh 2,000 for 7 days at a rate of 2.4% per day, including the day of issue. The total interest you pay for this loan will be KSh 384.

KUCCPS News Portal

KUCCPS Portal Now Open for TVET Application by former KCSE candidates; Placement to be in January, 2020

The The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) is mandated with the responsibility of placing students to higher institutions of learning; Universities, Colleges, Polytechnics and TVETs. KUCCPS usually opens the student portal to give an opportunity for students who did not secure placement during school application, first and second revisions.

Such Students can then submit application for a Diploma, Craft Certificate or Artisan Certificate in a National Polytechnic, Technical Training Institute or Technical Vocational College of your choice.

OPENING OF THE PORTAL

This year KUCCPS has opened the portal for all form four graduates who want to further studies to make their applications, online. The online application portal is now open and will close on December 31, 2019.

KUCCPS Requirements to join Tvet Institutions

To qualify for TVET programmes, one must meet these basic requirements: Must score;

Level	KCSE Mean Grade
Diploma	C- (minus) and above
Craft Certificate	D (plain) and above
Artisan Certificate	D-(minus) and below

The available programmes, institutions, minimum entry requirements and the application procedure are available on the KUCCPS Student’s Portal accessible through the Placement Service website www.kuccps.ac.ke.

ELIGIBILITY

All KCSE certificate holders who have not benefited from government sponsorship before are eligible to apply where they meet the minimum requirements.

Successful applicants will be admitted to a college of their choice as early as January, 2020.

Applicants who need assistance should visit the KUCCPS desks in the following Huduma Centres: Nairobi (GPO and Makadara), Eldoret, Meru, Nyeri, Kisumu, Kakamega, Nakuru, Kitui, Garissa and Mombasa. Assistance may also be obtained at the KUCCPS offices at ACK Garden House (Ground Floor) on 1st Ngong Avenue in Community Area, Nairobi.
