The Kenya National Examinations Council, Knec, has postponed examinations that were to kick off this month as a result of the CoronaVirus shutdown. This is after the government ordered for a total close down of all learning institutions across the country in order to curb further spread of the deadly virus. Consequently, the exams council has taken this drastic move ‘in compliance with the Presidential Directive on suspension and closure of all learning institutions to control and manage the spread of COVID -19 virus.’
Via a circular dated Monday March 16, 2020, Knec Acting Chief Executive Officer (Dr. Mercy Karogo) advises that ‘Business and Technical theory examinations scheduled to start on Monday, 23rd March, 2020 have been postponed until further notice.’
Here are links to the most important news portals:
But, according to Dr. Karogo, ‘Business and Technical Practical/Oral examinations scheduled to end on Friday, 29th March, 2020 shall continue as scheduled.’
‘The Diploma in Teacher Education examinations shall continue until Friday 20th March, 2020 and thereafter be postponed from Monday, 23rd March, 2020 until further notice,” She adds in the Circular.
This comes even as the fate of reopening of the closed institutions remains unknown as the Government puts up Spirited efforts to Control the Disease.
Dr. Karogo says ‘the Council shall review the directive from time to time and communicate when the postponed examinations will resume.’
The Council is yet to give an update on the fate of the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education, KCSE, and Kenya Certificate of Primary Education, KCPE, examinations; more so, status on upload of the 2020 Project based milestone one marks and data considering the fact that the deadline for uploading the same (onto the Knec portal) is March 31, 2020 and schools have been closed down.
Education Cabinet Secretary prof. George Magoha has told schools to be wary of the current Corona Virus Disease (Covid-19) pandemic. The disease that has infected thousands of people in the world has been declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO).
“As you are aware, there is an outbreak of a new disease known as Novel COVID-19 Corona Virus that has been reported in various countries. Corona Virus is a respiratory disease whose common signs and symptoms of infection include high fever, cough, and breathing difficulties. In more severe cases, the infection can cause Pneumonia, severe acute respiratory syndrome, kidney failure and death.,” says CS Magoha in his latest directive to school heads.
FOR A COMPLETE GUIDE TO ALL SCHOOLS IN KENYA CLICK ON THE LINK BELOW;
Magoha now tells schools to be extra careful to curb any possible exposure of staff and learners to the disease. “Given the COVID-19 outbreak and its impact on people and health, it is important that all learning institutions in the country take appropriate measures for prevention and response to mitigate the Public Health Impact in the event of an outbreak,” notes the CS.
According to Magoha, Learners and staff across all institutions are advised to do the following for prevention: Wash their hands with soap, Observe normal hygiene in schools and at home. They should also avoid unnecessary shaking of hands and body contact.
He further cautions school heads to be extra vigilant to safe guard the learners. “In the event that the above stated symptoms are detected, prompt referral to a specialized health provider is required. Heads of learning institutions across the country are asked to liaise with the nearest public health offices for proper information on the COVID-19 disease,” he adds.
Kenyans will have all reasons to smile and be thankful since there is no single case of Corona disease that has been reported in the Country; so far.

The Central Bank, CBK, of Kenya has come to the aid of millions of Kenyans servicing bank loans who may have difficulties in krepaying the loans in time. This is in a bid to mitigate the ripple economic effects caused by the Corona virus pandemic. Borrowers will now be given an extension to their repayment by one year; if they so wish.
Following a meeting with commercial banks on Monday, March 16, 2020, the Central
Bank of Kenya (CBK) announces a set of measures that commercial banks will undertake in order to alleviate the adverse economic effects their customers may face from the Coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19). While the extent of the adverse effects are still evolving, it is already evident that the impact on some of the customers may be sever,” reads a circular by the CBK dated Wednesday March 18, 2020.
CBK GUIDELINES
According to the recent CBK guidelines, to help alleviate the adverse effects, the following emergency measures will apply for borrowers whose loan repayments were up to date as at March 2, 2020:
Banks will seek to provide relief to borrowers on their personal loans based on their individual circumstances arising from the pandemic.
To provide relief on personal loans, banks will review requests from borrowers for extension of their loan for a period of up to one year. To initiate this process, borrowers should contact their respective banks.
Medium-sized enterprises (SMES) and corporate borrowers can contact their banks for assessment and restructuring of their loans based on their respective circumstances arising from the pandemic.
Banks will meet all the costs related to the extension and restructuring of loans.
To facilitate increased use of mobile digital platforms, banks will waive all charges for balance inquiry.
As earlier announced, all charges for transfers between mobile money wallets and bank accounts will be eliminated.

The founding Headmaster was the late Reverend Fr. Victor Deleidi and was posted from the then St. Cecilia Teachers College (current Mugoiri Girls High school).

In the early 60’s to mid-70’s the main boys Secondary School in this Southern side of the then Murang’a District Njiiris High School (PCEA – DEB), Githumu High School (AIC) and Gaichanjiru High School (Catholic). The three schools used to hold what used to be called triangular games every year. Most of the teaching staff were of Asian/Goan origin and the first three Headmasters up to 1967 were Catholic Priests.

The Teachers Service Commission, TSC, expects appraisers to fill summaries of data on lesson attendance per week for all teachers. These summaries are compiled using the manual TSC sheets and fed into the new Teacher Performance Appraisal and Development (TPAD) system. It should be noted that the summaries are done by either the Deputy Head/ Principal, Senior Master/ Teacher or Head of Department; the one in-charge of the appraisals for teachers.
The lesson attendance sheet has columns for filling such data as: Name of the teacher, Number of Lessons to be taught (per week), Actual Number of lessons taught, Number of Lessons recovered and remarks by the appraiser.
Here is the TPAD Lesson Attendance form:

Scroll down to ‘Add Attendance’ and click on it (This is after you have declared the year, term and the date when the week ends; that Friday).
You will now be able to add each teacher’s weekly lesson attendance Summary.
Click in the box indicated ‘Select Teacher’ and choose the teacher for whom to declare his/ her lesson attendance. Select the Week’s ending date, number of lessons to be taught and the actual number of lessons taught. Then, you will also enter the number of lessons recovered by the teacher and attendance remarks.
