Moi Girls Kamusinga started as a harambee school in 1973 on Kamusinga A.C. Primary ground. The establishment was spearheaded by Reverend Jesse Okadapau, an Anglican Church Parish Vicar. The primary school classrooms were used for first batch of twenty seven students who were all day-scholars from the neighborhood.
In 1981 the government took over the running of this school. The school changed its name from CPK Kamusinga Girls to Moi Girls High School Kamusinga on 1st February 1988 when His Excellency the former President Daniel Toroitich Arap Moi, visited the school and held a Harambee which helped the school to expand its land to twenty eight acres from five. He later donated a bus to the school.
The first Head Teacher was Mr. Mathias Kinanja (now deceased) before Mr. Isaac Wanyonyi took over. Mrs Mary Ndinyo took over in 1978 and headed the school up to 1992. Senior Principal Mrs. Winfrida Wanjala led the school up to 2001 when she handed it over to Mrs Waliula. After Mrs Waliula we now have Dr.Josephine Wanyama at the helm.
Moi Girls High School became a full boarding in 1993 with two streams. A third stream was started in 1993 before a fourth one was started in 1994. Currently the school has Eight streams and the population of 1228 students 52 teachers and 34 support staff.
Moi Girls’ High School Has been a Champion in Handball National champions from 2012 to date and East Africa Champions in 2013 in Gulu Uganda and 2016 In Kenya.

The history of Kijabe Girls’ High School dates back to the late 19th Century when the first African Inland Mission missionary team landed in Mombasa. The team led by Peter Cameron Scott, were motivated to spread the gospel in Kenya. The missionary team in later years, established a mission station in Kijabe, which comprised of a hospital, theological college and several schools, one being Kijabe High School, which later divided into Kijabe Boys High School and Kijabe Girls’ High School.
Kijabe Girls’ High School is Christian based institution which is sponsored by the AIC and operates on biblical values .These include love, respect, self-control and fear of God. Kijabe Girls’ High School (KGHS) is a public school that offers the secondary school cycle of the 8-4-4 system of education. Located in Central Province, it was started in 1987 after separation from Kijabe Boys’ High School. The school lies on over fifty acres of land, part of which is a forest inhabited by friendly baboons that interact well with the school community. It is also surrounded by a very supportive Christian community of the Kijabe Mission.
Part of the school is a forest that has friendly baboons that interact well with the school community.
The school serves 650 girls from all the Districts of Central Province. Most of these girls come from humble backgrounds. KGHS is the only provincial girls’ boarding school in Lari Constituency and District which was part of the larger Kiambu District. Kijabe Girls High School is in the forefront of ensuring that girls enroll and stay in school and thus helps girls gain access to or create new educational, financial, and social resources in their communities. The school’s inspiration is to help girls improve their own lives, the lives of their families and the conditions in their communities when they become women.
The most important dream for parents – and especially mothers – is ensuring their daughters have access to basic education, are able to make informed decisions about their futures, and are able to protect themselves from trafficking, sexual exploitation, HIV and AIDS, among other problems. By improving access to educational opportunities, KGHS helps girls develop skills that allow them to make decisions and influence community change in key areas. This has had positive impact by reducing HIV and AIDS among girls, enhancing peace and security, and has helped reduce the gap between the rich and the poor in Kenya.
Education also helps men and women claim their rights and realize their potential in the economic, political and social arenas. It is also the single most powerful way to lift people out of poverty. Education plays a particularly important role as a foundation for girls’ development towards adult life. It should be an intrinsic part of any development to address the gender-based discrimination against the girl child that remains prevalent in many societies.
Though the Government of Kenya has made significant steps to reduce gender parity in education, gender inequality in education is still rampant particularly in the rural and marginalized areas. Studies indicate that girls are less likely to access school, remain in school or to achieve high standards of performance in examinations than boys due to socialcultural barriers. KGHS endeavors to bridge these gaps by empowering the girl child who for a long time was not given priority in the family for educational support.

The School’s chief purpose is to develop the minds and consciences of its students so that they can become self-disciplined and resourceful, and therefore better able to serve society in a useful way. Above all, the School emphasizes academic excellence and moral integrity. The School aims at creating an environment that is conducive to learning; both experienced teachers and well-motivated students strive to create this environment.
Through daily close contact with the students in the classroom, in extra-curricular activities and on the sports fields, the School Staff strive to develop in the students such qualities, such as honesty, responsibility, good use of freedom, tolerance, and hard work. The School aims at providing an education based on Christian principles and accepts worthwhile students regardless of creed.
Srathmore Court of Arms
The lion is the symbol of strength, power, courage of determined fight for excellence and justice. It also represents Kenya, our country, which has all the qualities mentioned above.
The Rose in full blossom represents, love, the source of all good desires and actions, even if at times it requires loving sacrifice, represented by the thorns the rose shows in its stem. The rose has some supernatural meaning. Love, in capital letters, is love of God. And also it has some historical meaning associated with the life of Blessed Josemaria who inspired and encouraged those who started Strathmore: He received a sign by means of a wooden gilded carved rose in a very trying moment of his life.
The Three hearts represent the three races which, in 1961 when the School started, were segregated in the colonial system of education. The heart represents the person, since it is taken as the source of all our actions, and the source of love. Being the three hearts of the same colour it shows the radical equality of all people. At the beginning it clearly meant the unity sought of the three major races. These days it means the co-operation of parents, teachers and students towards the same aim.
The motto “Ut ommnes unum sint” is in Latin. It is a quotation from a passage of the Gospel, and translated means “That all may be one”. It expresses the desire of working together towards the same aim, in spite of individual legitimate opinions, preferences and tastes.
The colours in heraldry (the science of making coats of arms) have associated meanings as follows:
Blue (Azure) Sky blue means high ideals, high aims;
Red (Gules) Blood red means sacrifice, love, fortitude;
The school has posted impressive performance at the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education, KCSE, exams over time.
