The new KUCCPS Chief Executive Officer, Mrs. Agnes Mercy Wahome

The Cabinet Secretary for Education, Prof. George Magoha, on February 2, 2021 appointed Mrs. Agnes Mercy Wahome as the Chief Executive Officer of the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (Kuccps) with effect from February 1, 2021. This followed a competitive recruitment process undertaken by the Board of the Placement Service in January, 2021.

Mrs. Wahome had initially been the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Placement Service since November 13, 2020 when former Chief Executive Officer John Muraguri proceeded on terminal leave ahead of retirement.

Mrs. Wahome joined the Placement Service in 2018 as the manager in charge of research and knowledge management, a new function that she was tasked with setting up to enable the Corporation to execute one of its core functions of collecting and retaining data relating to university and college placement.

After successfully setting up the Research and Knowledge Management Department, she took a lead in the publication of the Placement Service’s inaugural career guidance book ‘The Essential Career Guide’ meant to assist secondary school students in making informed career decisions.

She has also been instrumental in coordinating and monitoring the implementation and reporting of the organisation’s Performance Contract and Strategic Plan.
She brings to the new role a wealth of experience garnered in over 27 years while serving in the public and private sectors, including local and international NGOs.

She has managed programmes for numerous international development organisations including USAID, Oxfam Netherlands (Novib), the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and Elton John Foundation. She has also served as a research consultant for Johns Hopkins Center for Communication Programs (USA), ACF (France) and Pathfinder International.

An international scholar and researcher, she is an alumnus of the Dutch Embassy and Sweden’s government agency for development cooperation (SIDA) education scholarships.

Mrs. Wahome is a graduate of the University of Nairobi (Master of Arts in Medical Sociology and a BA in Sociology and Communication). She is also the first-ever PhD candidate in Health Communication at the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology.

As the second Chief Executive Officer at the Placement Service, her immediate focus is to work with the Board to embark on the development of the second Strategic Plan for the organisation; revamp career guidance programmes and enhance partnerships for the same; review the placement criteria in consultation with stakeholders, and initiate preparations for the alignment of student placement with the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC).

The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service is a state corporation established under the Universities Act No. 42 of 2012.

How to download KUCCPS admission letters for 2020/2021 placement

Students who applied for placement at universities and colleges via the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) can check their placement results. This can be done immediately after the announcement of the results.

GETTING YOUR KUCCPS RESULTS THROUGH ONLINE PORTAL
One of the surest ways of checking your admission results is by using the KUCCPS online portal.
Proceed to use the procedure below to check your placement results;
  • Visit: http://students.kuccps.net/
  • Login with your details as follows;
  • Username: (Use your full Index Number)
  • Year: (2019)
  • Password: (Use your Birth Certificate Number or KCPE index number)

After login you should see a box at the bottom of your dashboard, first page, with a message that reads

Congratulations, followed by a university you have been placed then finally the course you will pursue.

You can as well download your admission letter from this portal.

KUCCPS also sends an SMS to the phone number that you registered under your details in the student portal. The SMS contains your placement details and is sent once the placement results have been announced. Ensure that your line is on so as to receive the results.

2020/ 2021 KUCCPS placement results for KCSE 2019 candidates

The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) is set to release the placement results for the 2019 KCSE candidates on Tuesday. According to the agency, the placement process is complete and applicants will receive their results on Tuesday.

“Hello, placement process is complete, you will get to know your placement status tomorrow. Check your student portal for feedback.” noted KUCCPS on Monday evening in a response to a query on the status of the placement process.

This year’s release of the results have been delayed seemingly due to the current covid 19 pandemic. KUCCPS released placement results for the 2018 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education, KCSE, students on the 15th of April, 2019. A total of 89,486 students were placed to degree programmes in public and private universities. While TVET programmes (diploma, craft certificate and artisan certificate) took up a total of 98,393.

Placement results are conveyed to students via SMS. The students can also visit the Official KUCCPS student’s portal.

The 125,449 candidates who sat for their KCSE in 2019 and scored grade C+ (plus) and above will all be placed against the available capacity of 193,878. Another 688,928 students qualified for placement at tertiary institutions under government sponsorship. Similarly, a total of 563,479 students who scored between C and E and will be receiving their placement results at Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions.

HOW TO CHECK YOUR PLACEMENT RESULTS

The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has released the 2023/2024 placement of students to universities and colleges. There are many ways through which you can easily and quickly check your results.

Applicants can check their placement results through any of the following ways.

1. Student’s Portal (Free of Charge)

Log in to the student’s Portal (students.kuccps.net] and view your placement results on the Dashboard. The login credentials are:

  • Applicant’s KCSE Index Number
  • Applicant’s KCSE Year
  • Password (Applicant’s KCPE Index Number/Birth Certificate Number)

2. SMS (Charges Applicable)

Send your KCSE Index number by SMS to 20842 starting with your KCSE year [Example: 202212345678912).

You will receive a response indicating the programme and the institution in which you have been placed. (Charges: Ksh25 per SMS.)

Using the KUCCPS student portal: Ultimate guide

Are you a form four leaver who has just done the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education, KCSE, examinations? Are you seeking to further your studies? Well, The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) offers form four leavers with an opportunity to further their studies in courses of their choice.

After sitting the KCSE examination, a student can be placed in a university, college or TVET institution depending on the student’s performance and preference.

THE KUCCPS STUDENT PORTAL.

To complete the placement process KUCCPS has a dedicated portal for students. The portal can be accessed by using the address; https://students.kuccps.net/

This portal enables a student to select preferred programmes, revise choices, see institution plus course you have successfully been placed to pursue, download your admission letter and request for inter-institution transfer. These programmes can be selected at school level or in subsequent revisions (first and second revisions). An inter-institution transfer request is placed by students who are not pleased with the universities/ colleges where KUCCPS has placed them.

To access the student’s portal you must be armed with your KCSE index number, KCSE year and password. Use Your Birth Certificate number or KCPE Index No (as used in KCSE Exam Registration) as your Initial Password. You can change this if you like but it is not very necessary to do so.

On successful log in, your account dashboard shows available programmes and institutions plus the menu bar. To make your degree/ diploma/ certificate course choice and even monitor your application, use the ‘Application/ Revision’ tab. It is on the dashboard where you will see your selection/ placement results once released.

KUCCPS mobile app for course application, admission results and letters

The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has developed a mobile app available for free download at Play store. The app is used to show your placement report; the course and university that you have been selected to join. It also displays your clusters i.e Degree Cluster weights for KCSE students with minimum university entry grade and above.

What is more? You can view available courses and institutions that you can select to join. The app also enables you to apply for the course of your choice by using the ‘Application’ tab.

Finally, you can request for an inter-institution transfer. This is helpful to students who are not satisfied with the institutions where they have been placed.

The KUCCPS mobile application is available on Google play store. To get the app, simply search for KUCCPS app and select the one titled ‘KUCCPS STUDENTS’ and having the official KUCCPS logo.
