NDURURUMO HIGH SCHOOL’S BRIEF HISTORY

In 1951 the Dutch settlers built this school to cater for the schooling of their children.  They named it JAN VAN RIEBEECK SCHOOL and it was managed by the Dutch reformed church. During the struggle for independence, the Dutch farmers relocated their families to other countries leaving the school vacant.

On 8th March 1963, the school was bought by a group of protestant churches by the name Christian Churches Educational Association (CCEA) and was renamed THOMPSON FALLS HIGH SCHOOL.  On 12th February 1964, the school was opened to cater for African students.  It was one of the first two co-educational schools in Kenya besides Nakuru High School.  It started with 25 boys and 25 girls and four missionary teachers.

The first Principal was MR. SHIMAL GMEIR.  In 1967, the first intake sat for Cambridge School Certificate examination (CSCE). In 1975, the school changed from C.C.E.A Thompson Falls to the current name NDURURUMO HIGH SCHOOL.  Since then, the school has been a co-education institution with girls and boys learning together.   In 1997, the school management changed the policy of the school so that girls and boys started learning separately with an ultimate aim of having them learn in separate compounds.

QUALITY POLICY STATEMENT:

Ndururumo High School is committed to quality teaching and learning, co-curricular activities, fostering a self-drive culture that is in tandem with the 8-4-4 goals of education with a view to producing holistic graduates prepared for a life of purpose, service, self reliance and leadership.  The school is committed to good team work, excellence and professionalism, responsibility and adaptation to change.  In order to realize this commitment, the school management will monitor and review its performance from time to time through consultancy with the ministry’s QUASO office and members of staff.

How moderation/ standardization of KCPE results is done

KCPE RESULTS MODERATION PROCESS- You probably must be wondering how standardization of the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examination results is done. Well. The process of moderating KCPE scores is quite straight forward and well documented.

Standardization of the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) Examination

BACKGROUND

The Kenya Certificate of Primary Education   (KCPE)   examination is primarily a Norm   Referenced (N.R) examination which   compares candidates’   performance to that   of other candidates taking   the examination.

Standardization of raw marks to standard   marks in   the KCPE examination is a   process that involves   adjusting the raw   marks for each paper in the   examination to allow for differences in   difficulty and extent to which marks scatter.

In this process, the difficulty among the   papers is   measured in terms of the mean   raw marks scored by all candidates, while   the differences in scatter are measured in   terms of the standard deviation.

Standardization entails converting the raw   marks of   each paper in the KCPE   examination so that the mean and   standard deviations of each of the papers   are   identical.

For the KCPE examination, the   expected   mean is 50 with a standard deviation of 15   for a paper marked out of 100.

See also: How KCSE results are moderated/ standardized.

FORMULA FOR KCPE STANDARDIZATION STANDARDIZATION

For standardization to a mean of 50 and Standard Deviation of 15 the formula is as follows:

  Where:

  XSD = Standard Scores

  X    = Raw mark obtained by   Candidate

  M   = Mean raw mark

  SD = Standard deviation of raw marks

RATIONALE FOR THE   STANDARDIZATION OF   RAW MARKS TO   STANDARD MARKS IN THE   KCPE   EXAMINATION

Standard scores are a measure of relative   performance and have the ability to tell us   how a candidate or a group of candidates have   performed in comparison to other candidates   while raw marks cannot;

Standard scores are essential when results   from different papers must be combined to   give an overall   total, as is the case of the   KCPE examination. Standard scores are useful   for comparing relative performance of a   candidate or group of candidates from subject   to subject and from year to year.

Once the raw marks have been   standardized,   the cut-off marks for all   grades from Grade A to Grade E   are identical for all subjects and   are   the same from year to year.

When scores are standardized, the   relative positions   of candidates remain   unchanged, the top candidate in each   subject remains at the top;

Standard scores always convey the   relative   performance of a candidate   relative to other   candidates sitting   the same examination;

Standard scores are essential if marks   from several   papers are to be added to   give a total score, and it is   desired   that each paper should contribute   equally to the total score.

LORETO KIAMBU GIRLS HIGH SCHOOL’S BRIEF HISTORY

The Loreto sisters first set foot in Kenya in the year 1903 with a mission to educate the girl child. This was the dream of their foundress, Mary Ward.

Loreto Kiambu girls high school being one of the fourteen Loreto schools in the Eastern Africa Province was founded on strong Catholic principles and is guided by the virtues es-poused by its foundress, Mary Ward, namely; trust, sincerity, love, justice and freedom. The School was established in 1949 as a Teacher Training College for primary school teachers. In 1973 the college was phased out. Nevertheless, the sisters wished to continue offering their services in the field of education, hence they sought the authority of the ministry of education to establish a secondary school for girls. This request was granted in 1974 when a provincial girls boarding school sponsored by the Catholic Church built and fully maintained by the government opened its doors to its first batch of forty students. That step effectively heralded the growth and transformation of Loreto Kiambu .
