Being a national school, Kanga High admits the best brains in the country. Selection for form one placement is done by the Ministry of Education.

KANGA HIGH SCHOOL’S KCSE PERFORMANCE ANALYSIS

The school has maintained a good run in performance at the Kenya National Examinations Council, KNEC, exams. In the 2018 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education, KCSE, exams the school registered a total of 71.612 295 candidates who managed to score a mean of a B+(plus) with a performance index of 71.612. List of Shortlisted candidates for 2019 TSC Teacher Internship vacancies; Kiambu County, Kiambaa

Important details for teachers who applied for the TSC Internship vacancies in Kiambu County. The Teachers Service Commission, TSC, has released the lists of shortlisted candidates for the advertized 10,300 teacher internship posts for Primary and Secondary Schools. According to the Commission, the lists of shortlisted applicants has been dispatched to all counties. “Applicants are advised that interviews shall be conducted at the county TSC offices. A list of applicants have been sent to each county,” reads a memo dated November 7, 2019 from Catherine Lenairoshi; of TSC Corporate Communications Office. According to instructions on the memo, the shortlisted Candidates are required to carry the following to the interviews; whose dates will be announced in due course:

i. A valid certificate of Good conduct
ii. A valid personal accident cover
iii. National ID card
iv. Disability card if any
v. Two passport size photographs
vi. KCSE certificate
vii. KCPE certificate
viii. Diploma / degree certificate and Transcripts
ix. Primary/secondary or college leaving certificate
x. Kra pin
xi. Bank plate

UTUMISHI BOYS ACADEMY’S BRIEF HISTORY

The idea of starting a school for police officers’ children was conceived in the early 1960s, however, it was until 1991 when the commissioner of police the late Philip Kilonzo began implementing the idea.

On 30th May 1991, the first steering committee was formed. Its first chairman was the former Senior Deputy Commissioner of Police, Hon Elijah Sumbeiywo. On December 30th, 1992, the principal Mr. Willie M. Mugoh was posted to the school. He was soon followed by twelve teachers. On 26th Jan 1993, the school admitted its first 80 boys and girls.

They were accommodated in the primary school since the complex had not been completed. Students used wooden houses in the anti-stock theft unit Police line as the boys’ dormitory and the school dining hall. The school soon outgrew the facilities the primary section could offer and so in January 1995, the school was moved to the incomplete complex structures.

SCHOOL’S BRIEF HISTORY

gara Girls’ High School started as an Asian mixed secondary school during the colonial era in 1957. The first head of the school was Mr. Waller. Five years later, in 1962, the boys were moved to Nairobi South ‘B’ where they started the present day Highway Secondary School. The following year, 1963, which was Kenya’s year of independence, the school, being a girls’ day school, received its first lady headmistress, Mrs. Serah Joseph who served the school for only one year. She was replaced by Mrs. Reina D’Souza in 1964. It was this year when the Ominde Commission abolished the system of education in Kenyan schools based on racial lines. Ngara Girls’ High School was now open to all races. However, the school still remained under the management of Asian heads up to 1987 when Mrs. Ottaro (the first African headmistress of the school) took over from Mrs. Vimala Chaudry, the longest serving head of the school (1968-87)

For a long time, efforts were made to turn the school from a day school to a boarding school. The project took root in 1986 when classrooms that used to be for ‘A’ level tuition were renovated to make dormitories for Form Four girls. This was done after the Kenyan government had adopted the recommendations of the McKay Commission which did away with the 7-4-2-3 Educational System and adopted the present 8-4-4 system. At this time, Mrs. Macharia was the principal of the school. One factor that made it easy to turn Form Fours into boarders was because the previous principal, Mrs. Ottaro had organized for the school canteen to be renovated into a kitchen which was already serving hot lunches for the students.

Under Mrs. Macharia, parents, students and teachers embarked on various activities to raise funds to put up more boarding facilities for the students. This was done through harambee contributions, sale of raffle tickets, walks and even variety shows.

In 1996, the Community Development Trust Fund (CDTF) gave a grant and together with the parents’ contribution and money raised by the students from walks, sale of raffle tickets and variety shows, a new hostel complex was started. The phase one part of the hostel complex had two floors which managed to accommodate 372 girls after completion. These were Form 3 and 4 students. The 348 day scholars continued to waste a lot of time commuting to and from their homes. The matatu menace continued to interfere with their discipline and therefore academic performance. The boarders were also getting a lot of influence from outside through the day scholars. There was therefore one urgent need; to have all the students in the hostel so that we could concentrate on only one agenda which was to uplift the academic standards of the school. This was one of the tasks which Mrs. Josephine Mwandoe who became the new principal of the school in 2000 took in her stride.

Mrs. Mwandoe wasted no time and organized for a harambee which was held on 8th September 2001. The money collected helped to complete the two top floors of the hostel complex and 180 girls were accommodated in it leaving 168 girls out as day scholars. This was not enough. The school community wanted all the girls in the hostel. New challenges also came up for example, the security of the students and frequent blackouts. Therefore, as parents continued digging deeper into their pockets to raise funds to put up a new hostel block, they also had to try and raise funds for the construction of a perimeter wall round the school and for the purchase of a generator.

The new hostel block was constructed and completed in 2004. It accommodated the rest of the students who had been locked out of boarding. Ngara Girls’ High School therefore, became a full boarding school. A stone wall was constructed round the school and Securicor Company (the present day Group 4 Security) was approached to install a security alarm system in the school. The school is now under 24 hour surveillance by the company. To curb the problem of frequent blackouts, parents contributed money and a generator was bought, which goes on automatically whenever there is a blackout.

The school has a clinic which is run by a full time school nurse. This clinic is an important facility in the school because it deals with the health of the students, both mentally and physically. The clinic is fully equipped with adequate drugs and other medical tools.

The school can also boast of a computer laboratory which was opened in May 2007. This is a great inspiration to the students. The ones taking the computer lessons enjoy them very much.

List of Shortlisted candidates for 2019 TSC Teacher Internship vacancies; Nakuru County, Nakuru North

The Teachers Service Commission, TSC, has released the lists of shortlisted candidates for the advertized 10,300 teacher internship posts for Primary and Secondary Schools. According to the Commission, the lists of shortlisted applicants has been dispatched to all counties. “Applicants are advised that interviews shall be conducted at the county TSC offices. A list of applicants have been sent to each county,” reads a memo dated November 7, 2019 from Catherine Lenairoshi; of TSC Corporate Communications Office. According to instructions on the memo, the shortlisted Candidates are required to carry the following to the interviews; whose dates will be announced in due course:

i. A valid certificate of Good conduct
ii. A valid personal accident cover
iii. National ID card
iv. Disability card if any
v. Two passport size photographs
vi. KCSE certificate
vii. KCPE certificate
viii. Diploma / degree certificate and Transcripts
ix. Primary/secondary or college leaving certificate
x. Kra pin
xi. Bank plate

The Ministry of Education has advertised 1,000 internship opportunities for graduates in ICT and education with ICT. The interns will support digital learning in public schools across the country. Check full details below;

INFORMATION COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY INTERNSHIP FOR DIGITAL LITERACY PROGRAMME (IIDLP) – 1000 POSTS

The Ministry of Education, State Department for Early Learning and Basic Education invites recent University graduates in ICT and Education with ICT to apply for Information Communication and Technology Internship Programme.

The Ministry through the programme is looking for young interns for a 12 month internship programme to support the Digital Literacy Programme (DLP) at the Sub-County level.

Duties and Responsibilities

An intern at this level will be responsible to the Sub County Director of Education in performance of his/her duties.

Specific duties and responsibilities will entail:

Support of E-Learning and content development in line with the schemes of work
Provide class support and training of Primary School teachers in use of digital literacy devices
Support implementation of the Digital learning programme
Carrying out innovations to enable schools improve on use of digital learning.
Provide support in safe, secure and ethical use of technology in learning
Assist teachers by integrating ICT in delivery of teaching, learning and assessment
Support school staff with development and production of key school policies and procedures
Provide first line support and maintenance of ICT services in the schools

Requirements for appointment

For appointment, an applicant must have:-

Graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Education with specialization in Information Communication Technology or a Bachelor’s degree in ICT from a recognized institution or its equivalent.
Graduated in the last four years from the date of this advertisement
Knowledge in networking and infrastructure, applications development, information security and project management
Ability to integrate ICT with Education in terms of E-Learning and content development.
Requisite skills to carry out research and innovation to support the Digital Literacy Programme.
Should be ready to be deployed to a Sub County Education Office on full time basis.

Eligibility for Internship

Eligible candidates should meet the following basic requirements:

Be Kenyan Citizen;
Have original academic and professional certificates
Be unemployed and has not previously been employed by the Commission on permanent terms;
Must be registered as per the TSC ACT 2012:
Be a holder of a P1 Certificate for Primary Schools and a minimum of a Diploma in Education Certificate for Secondary Schools applicants
Be ready to be posted to any public educational institution in Kenya where their services are required:
Must have a Personal Accident Insurance to cover for personal risks during the internship period;

In addition to the above requirements, successful Interns shall be required to produce:

A valid Certificate of Good Conduct:
National Identity Card (ID) or copy of passport and a copy of KRA PIN Certificate:
Two (2) coloured passport size photographs
Teacher Registration Certificate.

Duration of internship

The Internship period will be twelve (12) months.

Remuneration

This is not a remunerative position. However, interns will be entitled to payment of a monthly stipend of Kshs 15,000 for Secondary School Teacher interns and Ksh 10,000 for Primary School Teacher Inters. This stipend is subject to statutory deductions where applicable)
