ST. GEORGE’S GIRLS’ SECONDARY SCHOOL’S BRIEF HISTORY
The school started in 1986 as a Mixed Day School but later converted to a Girls’ Boarding School when the boys were relocated to Nairobi Milimani Secondary School.
The school population stands at 984 girls currently with 5 classes each. Our girls are mainly from Nairobi Province but about one-tenth of them are picked from the other 7 provinces. We are also hosting the UNICEF girls and Affirmative Action girls from marginalized districts. Our performance through the years has been very good in the KCSE KNEC Examinations.
St. George’s Girls school stretches back to 1884. The school was formally established in the following year, R.A. Shackleford becoming the school’s first principal. The school was named St. George, the patron saint of England and principally funded by St. George’s Church.
The school started off with an intake of 40 students. In 1888, increasing student enrollment led to classes being moved into the newly constructed bungalow.
In 1909, the British authorities took over the administration of St. George’s Girls school and renamed it the Government Girls School. Efforts were made to address the shortage of qualified teachers and the relocation of the school accommodate more students.
In 1911, the government Girls’ school was moved to Northam Road, and further expansion occurred with the acquisition of two bungalows. The British authorities also proposed in 1916 to turn the all-girls school into a co-educational school, but this idea id not materialize.
The administration of Government Girls, school was handed back to St. George’s Church in 1920, at which point the school’s name was reverted to its original name, St. George’s Girls School.
In 1954, the school was shifted once more to Macalister Road. The school has since been renowned for the consistent academic achievements of its students.

KITALE SCHOOL-SECONDARY’S BRIEF HISTORY
It was in 1908 when White settlers on the slave route to Uganda and Tanzania decided to rest their sweaty faces and tired backs at Quitale (now Kitale)-later established as a town in 1920.
Nine years later, early missionaries started Kitale primary school which targeted privileged children of White settlers. Later the school expanded to accommodate a mixed secondary school with the first batch of students enrolling in 1986.
Less than a decade later, in 1993, the male students were phased out, leaving behind girls and it remained a girls’ boarding secondary school.
The school sitting on a 109-acre piece of land, just two kilometers from Kitale town, Trans-Nzoia County, changed its name to Kitale School on September 27, 2014, an event which coincided with the school’s 85th-anniversary celebrations.
Notable alumni of the primary and secondary sections include; Kiprono Kittony, currently the chair of the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry and former chair of Radio Africa Ltd and Media Owners Association. Television business journalist, Terryanne Chebet, studied the scrapped business education (BeD) here and social media consultant Linda Obilo strolled in dark brown skirts as she sang the “Persevere” motto.
Others are Ika Angelei, who was honored by White House with the Goldman Environmental Prize for her environmental activism on Lake Turkana, the Stanchart South Africa CEO Richard Etemesi and former Kenya Commercial Bank CEO Terry Davidson.
It was at Kitale School too that radio journalist Joshua Arap Sang schooled. Sang, whose case at the ICC was terminated recently, schooled among the last cohort before the status of the school changed and the boys were kicked out.

Students joining Taita Taveta University (TTU) are selected by the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service, KCCPS. The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) in conjunction with the Kenya Secondary School Heads Association (KESSHA) have released the 2020 instructions for the Teacher of the Year Award (TOYA), innovative/ICT teacher of the year (iTOYA) and principal of the year (POYA) awards. The 2020 TOYA, iTOYA and POYA assessment tool has been aligned to the policy framework to make the award system fair, competitive and open to all teachers where only merit will count.
In 2019, eligibility to contest in the iTOYA was expanded to include teachers in any subject as long as they can present their innovation and creativity in curriculum delivery.The main objective is to: encourage compliance with teaching standards; facilitate career progression; promote professional development; promote best practices in curriculum implementation.
REQUIREMENTS FOR TOYA
To qualify for participation one must be a TSC employed teacher and must have taught for at least three years under TSC and should have a subject mean score of 5.0 (C-) and above in 2019 KCSE results in the teaching subject being presented for contest. To proceed to the next level, one must attain at least 60% on the scoring tool. Teachers with special needs are encouraged to participate.
REQUIREMENTS FOR iTOYA
To qualify for participation one must be a TSC employed teacher and must have taught for at least three years under TSC and should have a subject mean score of 5.0 (C-) and above in 2019 KCSE results in the teaching subject being presented for contest (however, this should not deter teachers with innovative projects from proceeding to the next level even if they do not meet the C- criteria).It is open to all teachers in all subjects.
To proceed to the next level, one must attain at least 60% on the scoring tool.Teachers with special needs are encouraged to participate. SMASE County Trainers’ Representatives are not eligible for the competition to avoid conflict of interest.

Principals must be employed by TSC and fully paid up members of KESSHA. In addition, one must have served as a principal for at least three years and should have a school mean score of 5.0 (C-) and above in 2019 KCSE results. In addition, one must have submitted books of accounts for the year 2019 for audit. To proceed to the next level, one must attain at least 60% on the scoring tool. Principals with special needs are encouraged to participate. KESSHA NEC officials, county and sub-county chairpersons are not eligible for this competition. A principal is not eligible to participate in the iTOYA or TOYA awards.
Any participant who reaches the National Level in any of the above categories cannot take part in the exercise again.
The award criterion is in adherence with the TSC performance recognition, reward and sanction policy; focusing on school based quality management systems, professionalism and application of educational legal provision in teaching and learning and in managing learning institutions.
Further the criterion is based on indicators that are key pointers to the quality of a national education system, which include:

Enhancing access and retention in provision of Secondary Education.

Mode of Presentation
The official reports in a prescribed summary draft at each level should be signed by all panelists and promptly presented to the next level of selection.
Procedure:
KCSE Mean Score/improvement index for each category of schools shall be used to shortlist participants
Talent identification and development shall also be used to shortlist participants
Innovation in curriculum delivery shall also be used as criteria for short listing.
Individual schools shall present the name of the winning teacher to the sub-county selection panel.
The sub-county selection panel shall then conduct the short listing. The best 5 teachers shall be eligible for interviews.
Principals shall be shortlisted by the sub-county selection panel; the best 5principals shall be interviewed.
Each County shall forward the names of the winning principal and teacher to the Regional selection panel.
The regional selection panel shall short list and interview a minimum of 4 and maximum of 8 principals and teachers.
The regional winners, one principal and one teacher from each region shall be eligible for interview by the National selection panel.
All KESSHA chairpersons at various levels and members of the National Executive Committee are not eligible to participate.
There shall be school visits by members of the national panel and or as the Commission may guide for further verification for those qualifying for National Competition.

Presentation to the National KESSHA Conference
Each nominee shall be given an opportunity make a brief presentation to the conference audience. The aim of the presentation is to give the audience an opportunity to learn from best practices and strategies which can be emulated by other institutions. The presentations provide an opportunity for the audience and the assessors to also objectively evaluate the articulation skills of the POYA, TOYA and iTOYA nominees.
The nominees are further assessed on various performance parameters which include;

The presentation content will further be corroborated with evidence provided by each nominee for authentication. In addition, indicators relating to;

This tool will be used to evaluate both the teachers and the principals in regard to performance while offering teaching service.
The criteria will be used to evaluate the teacher professional performance competencies in maintaining of teaching standards during curriculum implementation process.
It is recommended that all the national finalists be evaluated at their work station by the TSC National adjudicators. This will offer an opportunity to verify and authenticate their performance and works; it will also create opportunity to access live evidence and experience of the teacher’s performance.

The principals’ will be evaluated in their multidimensional roles as the lead educators and administrators. Equally their capacity to perform the role of quality assurance within their institutions will be assessed. The assessment will focus on the head of institution personal achievement in both PC & TPAD.
These criteria will be used to evaluate the principal’s professional performance competencies in maintaining of teaching standards during curriculum implementation process.
It will also assess the principal’s competencies in management of human, material and financial resources during the teaching and learning process with a view to enhancing learning outcomes
It is recommended that all the national finalists be evaluated at their work station by the TSC National adjudicators. This will offer an opportunity to verify and authenticate their performance and works; it will also create opportunity to access live evidence and experience of the principal’s performance.

Individual candidates can check their KCSE results by sending an SMS with their full index number (11digits) followed by the word KCSE. The SMS can be sent from any subscriber’s line (Safaricom, Airtel or any other) to 20076. For example, send the SMS in the format 23467847002KCSE to 20076. There should be no space left between the index number and the word KCSE.
One can also download the whole school’s KCSE results by Visiting the Official KNEC exams portal; https://www.knec-portal.ac.ke/. This one requires the school’s log in credentials.
Finally, candidates can visit the school for their results. This is usually a day after the results have been released. It is important that you check your result slip to ensure there are no errors on it. Be keen to see that details such as your name, index number and sex are accurate. PRECIOUS BLOOD KAGWE GIRLS SECONDARY SCHOOL’S BRIEF HISTORY
Precious Blood Kagwe is a catholic sponsored extra-county public school. It was started in 1966 at the request of the people of Gatamaiyu. Its under the Catholic Archdiocese of Nairobi. It was started by the missionary sisters of Precious Blood.
The first form 1 class was started on 11th February 1966 with 18 students under Sr. Silvana. She managed the school from 1966 to 1971. One of the achievements during this period is the students population increased to 148.
The features in the facility grew as the general science laboratory and the needle work room were put up from the primary school. In 1970 the provincial inspector Mr. Grieves Cook declared it the best Harambee School.
The students sat for the first EACE in 1971 where 18 students out of 21 candidates passed.
In 1972 the first 30 students started the boarding section in a timber building. In 1972, the Archbishop of Nairobi opened the laboratory and hostel buildings. In 1977 the library was built. Sr. Mlanatis C.P.S took over in 1972 up to 1979, Sr. Engelberta Frohlich headed the school from 1980 to 1989. In 1980 H.E. President Daniel Toriotich Arap Moi visited and donated the funds to the school. In 1981, the house system was introduced with 5 houses. Students were awarded merits for good conduct and demerits for broken school rules.
In 1982 H.E. President Daniel Toroitich Arap Moi opened a storey building to accommodate 128 girls. Infrastructure grew in the school between 1985 to 1990 which consisted of the construction of the kitchen dining hall, classrooms, staff houses, science laboratories and computer building.
Sr. Maria Pacis Vogel took over in February 1989 to November 1991. Sr Anne Walton headed the school from 1991 to April 2006. The school attained a 33 seater bus in 1999.
The school has excelled in curriculum and Co-Curricular activities. Students have participated up to National level in Science Congress, Sports and Music Festivals. In the year 2000, the school attained the school of the year award due to its KCSE performance. The students visit nyumbani home which is home to HIV/AIDS infected babies, every term.
The school encourages students to explore their talents through clubs, movements, societies and games.
Mrs. Esther Mathenge took over in May 2006 to December 2006. Mrs. Rose Kiragu took over from her from January 2007 to May 2013.
In December 2007 proposed classroom, department offices, exam room building started. In 2010, the computer room was converted into Administration block which is now the principal office.
The school attained the school van 2011 through CDF LARI. In 2012, the school was registered as a three stream and the name changed to Precious Blood Kagwe.
On 22nd February 2012 by the help of zonal forest manager, Mr. Njenga, the school started the construction of Biogas, on 23rd November the same year, the school received donations of computers from UNEP.
Mrs. Joy Gitonga took over in May 2013 after the transfer of Mrs. Rose Kiragu to Kerugoya girls. The water heating system was then installed. In the same year, Mr. Eliud Muriithi sponsored the sign boards. Bulk sms were introduced and the electric bell.
Mrs. Lucy Mwangi took over from Mrs. Joy Gitonga in January 2019. Currently the school has a population of 883 students. It’s a five streamed school a population of 20 TSC teachers and 16 BOM teachers.
A modern dormitory to accommodate 400 students was completed in 2017. This was started with a harambee presided over by Hon. William Samoei Ruto on 10th July 2015.
