About 5,397 schools are yet to upload their 2020 from one selection lists onto the National Education Management Information System, Nemis. This is according to the latest data from the Education Ministry. This mostly affects the Sub County and Private schools whose selection was done manually. The list detailing the school’s name and location indicates that the schools are yet to upload their selection lists onto their Nemis accounts in readiness for the admission exercise in January 2020.
The Education Ministry has set reporting date for the 2020 form ones to secondary schools to be between January Monday 13th to Friday 17th. This will be about one week after the other students would have reported back to school for the new year.

The County Government of Nakuru has identified and equipped about 80 institutions to be used as Covid-19 isolation centres in case there are multiple infections in the county. Most of those selected are secondary schools across the 11 Sub-counties in Nakuru. This comes even as the Kenya Union of Post primary Education Teachers, KUPPET, raised concern over the use of schools as Covid-19 isolation centres. Molo Sub County has the largest number of facilities at 13.
The number of Covid-19 patients continues to increase in the country even as the government puts up a spirited fight against the deadly disease.
The list below shows the selected facilities; including the available bed capacities:

Nembu Girls High School was started as a mixed Day School in 1982 as an offshoot of Nembu Primary. The school was started by the community of Waithaka in Dagoretti Division due to a seriously felt need for High School as a result of the presence of many children from the area who could not obtain admission in the schools around mainly Dagoretti, Lenana, Mutuini and Precious Blood High schools.
The reason was that the cut off marks for all these schools were higher than the marks obtained by a large number of the children in the catchment area of the school.
The main initiators of the school, the parents of Nembu and Mukarara Primary schools were searching for possibilities for their children to continue with secondary school education after completing Primary schools. The only other alternative open to them was to send their children to private schools in Nairobi City where the fees was quite high and in addition, the parents had to meet the daily bus fare and other expenses.
The school started at the current Nembu Primary and used the same classrooms and other facilities with the primary school. At the start, 42students were admitted in a single class. In 1983, the school was allocated some land by Nembu Primary School where separate High School premises were constructed and the high school shifted to its present site.
In 1984 the school received teachers from the Teachers Service Commission thus making the school an aided Harambee school.
Later in 1985, the government increased its participation in the school by posting the Headmaster and more students. In 1986, the first Board of Governors was appointed and this was followed by the formation of the PTA. Those two bodies have managed the school to the current level of achievements both physical development and in academic performance.
In 1998 the Ministry of Education Science & Technology approved a gradual change of status from Nembu Day Mixed Secondary to Nembu Girls Boarding High School which eventually would be a girl’s boarding school. The last group of boys was phased out in 2001.
Clearing of the boys affected the population of the school drastically since they were the majority.
To capture the girl child, the boarding facility appeared to be the alternative. The Board of Governors and the Parents, Teachers Association (PTA) designed a project to put up a dormitory for the girls.
The Plan of the building was to have a block with a kitchen and dining hall on the ground floor and students to be accommodated in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd floors by the year 2002,
The ground floor is housing the kitchen and Dining Hall. The 1st floor is complete but could not be used as a dormitory but turned into ICT and Home Science rooms.
The school was partly boarding since the year 2002. It attained full boarding status in the year 2004 when the enrolment increased from 181 to 250 students. The school attained full enrolment in year 2005 with a lot of constraints.
This was achieved through financial assistance from Hon. Beth Mugo (Area Member of Parliament) and the Board of Governors in 2005 when a big room was constructed and inaugurated on 23rd of February 2005.
The first class for boarding was admitted in 2002 and by 2004, the school turned full boarding but with a lot of constraints. The girls were accommodated in the classrooms since the school had no dormitory. The idea of turning the school into boarding was timely in that the enrolment went up from 181 in 2002 to the current over 500 students today.
Performance in academics, was below average at 4.1 D+ yet the students were expected to compete effectively with others from good performing schools for the vacancies at the universities. The school’s mean grade stands at C+ with the highest recorded in 2010 – 7.48 C+. The school has continued to get support from the government.
In 2011 it was identified as one of the centers of Academic excellence program. The school received a total KShs. 15M which was used to construct the only dormitory for the girls.
Other bodies/organizations that assist the school by paying fees for some of the students include; Jomo Kenya foundation, Equity Bank, Amref, Unicef, World Vision, Churches like Nairobi Chapel, Wanawake wa Talenta through the Catholic Secretariat, Board of Management and PTA members.
