KCPE 2019 Exams Ranking; top and best Candidates, schools in Nyandarua County

Nyandarua County failed to produce a candidate in the 2019 KCPE top 100 list; nationally. The best candidate in the County got 429 marks out of 500.

Extra County Schools in Kenya form the second tier of secondary schools; after National schools. They were formerly referred to as Provincial schools. These schools are distributed all over the Country with each county having its share. The schools admit students from all over the country. The Teachers Service Commission, TSC, provides a wide range of services online. These services can be accessed by online users. The services are mostly accessible to teachers and TSC staff. Here are the services that the Commission offers online:

  Online tax deductions card (P)

Teachers and TSC Secretariat Staff can now access their P9 forms online alongside their payslips, through the TSC on-line service portal. Thus they do not have to wait for June to make their returns. They can now make their tax returns as early as January of every year. To access this service click on; https://payslip.tsc.go.ke/login.php

TSC Website (www.tsc.go.ke):

The Commission has a vibrant website where key activities of the Commission are posted as they happen. The website is also a key resource centre where teachers and the public easily access information on the services offered by the Commission. From the Website;

  • • Teachers can download various documents such as The Code of Regulations for Teachers, circulars and Gazette notices.
  • • Teachers can access and apply for advertised posts,
  • • Retired teachers whose pension claims have been processed and forwarded to the Director of Pensions are notified through the website.

  • i). Teacher registration

The Commission is mandated to register trained and qualified teachers before they engage in any teaching services in the country. Through the Commission’s online system, applicants upload the requirements for registration. The Commission processes registration within 30 days and a registration certificate is issued.   • ii). T-Pay (payslip.tsc.go.ke)

Teachers can now view their latest pay information by accessing their pay slips online. The system also provides a function for teachers to send their latest pay slip to 30 parties such as banks, Saccos, amongst others, to facilitate acquisition of a loan.   • iii).Teacher Performance Appraisal and Development (TPAD)

  • iv). Wealth declaration:

Teachers and TSC secretariat staff are required to declare Income, Assets and Liabilities in accordance to the public Officer Ethics Act 2003. This can now be done through the TSC Website under the teachersonline link at; https://tsconline.tsc.go.ke

  • v). Teacher Management Information System (TMIS)

Effective teacher management requires use of accurate and up to date data. In response to this the Commission has developed an online data collection and analysis system- Teacher Management Information System (TMIS). Data is collected at the source which includes the school, TSC county offices, and the headquarters and is uploaded on the system. TMIS ensures there is a centralized source of data hence eases access of data. Get the service by clicking https://tsconline.tsc.go.ke

Use of email to enhance communication.

The Commission’s email services continue to be a key channel of communication that teachers and other clients use to make enquiries. This provides clients with a channel that enables them to reach the Commission at a click of a button. Clients can reach the Commission wherever they are, without having to travel to any of the Commission’s offices.

Commission’s social media platforms

The Commission’s social media platform, Facebook page (TSC KENYA) and twitter handle (http://@TSC_KE) are interactive platforms where teachers and other clients interact easily with the Commission. The Commission uses the platforms to post and share events as they happen and also bring to the attention of our clients’ urgent information meant for their attention. You are all encouraged to use the platforms to reach the Commission on any issue that you may have.

Bulk SMS

The bulk SMS platform has enabled the Commission deliver time- sensitive notifications, and other important information directly to the mobile phones of teachers and Secretariat Staff. TSC is now able to send out invitations to teachers for interviews, discipline hearings and cordial messages such as Christmas, Idd Ul Fitr, Easter, New Year’s. It has also been integrated with other systems to give instant feedback such a successful completion of a job application, registration amongst others. The Bulk SMS presents a more cost effective way of communicating to employees as opposed telephone calls or sending letters.

Human Resource Management Information System (HRMIS)

This was developed to enable the Commission manage its human resource. Secretariat Staff now apply for leave, undertake performance appraisal and access medical scheme administration services such as updating their profiles, adding beneficiaries and give feedback about services in hospitals. They also can initiate card replacement and check referral hospitals in the various towns and regions. The use of technology-based service channels, have improved service delivery greatly by reducing the human interface and providing timely response, accessibility and efficiency. Teachers no longer need to leave their stations to access services. They are able to access them even through their personal phones. I wish to assure you the Commission is committed to automating its services to provide real time services to the teachers and the public.

Universities are the highest learning institutions in Kenya and the World over. They offer training majorly in undegraduate and Post Graduate Studies. In Kenya, the Courses offered in the Universities must be accredited by the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Services, KUCCPS. It is the same body that selects and places students to higher learning institutions; Universities, Colleges and Polytechnics. To qualify for University placement one must attain the minimum set Mean grade and particular course requirements. Each Course offered at particular university has its own cluster cut off points, though. Most university courses take a minimum of 4 years; while, some take even more. An academic year at the university takes two semesters of three months each. University students get fees loans from various organizations. Top on the list is the Higher Education Loans Board, HELB, that advances both loans and Bursaries. Universities run online platforms; portals and websites, where such services as admission application, online accommodation booking, E-learning, exams results downloads and many are provided to students, staff and the general public.   • Must show ability to undertake academic research in the areas of specialization.

(Offered through part-time, evening and weekend modes) MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Holders of Bachelor’s Degree with 2nd Class Honor’s (Upper Division) from a recognized institution. Those with Second Class (Lower Division) may be considered on condition that they have Grade C and above in units relevant to their specialization. Bachelor of Education(Arts) Minimum of C+ (plus) in KCSE OR equivalent with at least C + (plus) in two teaching subjects OR minimum of C (plain) in KCSE OR equivalent with a Diploma in Education and at least C + (plus) in two teaching subjects. Bachelor of Education(Science)        Minimum of C+ (plus) in KCSE or equivalent with at least C + (plus) in two teaching subjects and C+ (plus) in Mathematics OR minimum of C (plain) in KCSE or equivalent with a Diploma in Education and at least C + (plus) in two teaching subjects. Bachelor of Education in Early Childhood Education Minimum of C+ (plus) in KCSE or equivalent OR minimum of C (plain) in KCSE or equivalent with a Diploma in ECDE or its equivalent with an overall pass of credit or distinction. Bachelor of Education in Special Needs Education Minimum of C+ (plus) in KCSE or equivalent with at least C + (plus) in two teaching subjects OR minimum of C (plain) in KCSE or equivalent with a Diploma in Education OR Special Education and at least C + (plus) in two teaching subjects. Postgraduate Diploma in Education   Bachelor Degree or its equivalent from recognized institution Diploma in Education (Science)

  • KCSE Mean Grade of C+ with at least C+ in two teaching Subject
  • And at least C- (Minus) in Mathematics

Diploma in Early Childhood Development Education KCSE Mean Grade of C (Plain) OR Division III at KCE OR Mean Grade C-(Minus) or an Early Childhood Studies Certificate from a recognized Institution. Diploma in Education (Arts)

  • KCSE Mean Grade of C+ with at least C+ in two teaching Subject
  • And at least D+ (Plus) in Mathematics

Bachelor of Education Course Requirements: Mean grade C+ (Plus) at KCSE and at least C+ in each of the two teaching subjects, 2 principal passes at A’Level and 1 subsidiary in relevant subjects, Diploma in Education (May be exempted in relevant units). P1 teachers must have scored C+ at KCSE to qualify.

ASUMBI GIRLS HIGH SCHOOL’S BRIEF HISTORY

Asumbi Girls’ High School was started on 19th March 1936, by the Franciscan Missionary Sisters of Saint Joseph as Lower Boarding Primary school, with a small population of pupils, sponsored by the Mill Hill missionaries of the then Catholic Diocese of Kisumu. The school progressed and became an intermediate school going up to std VIII. In 1965 the first form one students were admitted. Three years later in 1968 the primary section was phased out. The following year 1969 the first secondary students sat their “ O” Level examinations.
Those who passed well proceeded to “A” Level Art class in 1970. in 1979 Science class of “A” Level added to the existing Art class. With introduction of the 8-4-4 system of education, the “A” level classes were phased out in 1989. The school is a four streamed public national Girls boarding secondary school.

The school sits on 20 acres of land. From this humble beginning Asumbi Girls’ Secondary School became a full fledged Government maintained School in 1965 managed by Board of governors legally constituted by the Ministry of Education.
The school has maintained it’s catholic tradition. The school’s sponsorship has been passed on from the management of initial Catholic Diocese of Kisumu to the Catholic Diocese of Kisii and presently it is under the sponsorship of Catholic Diocese of Homabay.

Asumbi Girlsl has maintained a good run in performance at the Kenya National Examinations Council, KNEC, exams. In the 2018 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education, KCSE, exams the school registered a total of 235 candidates who managed to score a mean of a B+ (plus) with a performance index of 69.307. In 2019, the school had a total candidature of 405 students.

Form one selection results and admission letters 2020; County schools

After the selection exercise for the 2020 placement of form ones, they will be expected to download their letters through the Ministry of education’s online portal. The admission letter is important to both students and Parents/ Guardians. This is because it enables the two parties to prepare adequately for reporting to selected secondary school.

To download the admission letter to County Schools:

  1. Click on this link to access the download page from the Ministry of Education’s Website: Ministry of education download link for form one admssion letter. Now,
  2. Next, Select the county and sub-county where your KCPE centre is located and key in your index number and Submit.
  3. Click on the link named “admission letter” at the bottom of the page for a copy of your admission letter.
  4. Use the printer icon to print or download icon to download to your computer.
  5. Get your primary school’s headteacher to endorse the letter and stamp it in the space provided.
  6. Finally, present it for admission together with a certified copy of birth certificate

But, what are some of the key highlights on the admission letters?

Here are some of the common details on the form one admission letters:

  • All the admission letters bear the Ministry of Education’s letter head; The letter contains the Education Ministry’s logo and head.
  • Name of the student, Index number and Sub County,
  • School admitted to (The Secondary school where the student has been placed),
  • Reporting date; Which is in January, 2020. The reporting date for 2019 was 7th to 11th January.
  • Former primary school’s details; the letter must be stamped by the head teacher, A disclaimer on the letter reads; “This letter will be authenticated on being duly certified by the primary school head complete with a certified copy of birth certificate and finally confirmed by the admitting principal. The letter is issued without any erasure  or alteration and cannot be changed through any form of endorsement whatsoever; utterance of false documents is an offence punishable by law.”
  • The 2020 fee guidelines from the Ministry (The letter gives fees directions thus; “The maximum fees payable per year is detailed in the attached schedule, do confirm the category of your school before making any payment.”)
  • Parents/ Guardians expected to go to schools where their kids have been placed to pick further joining instructions and requirements. (“Urgently get in touch with your new principal at the above school for admission requirements,” says the admission letter from the Ministry.)

  • Uniform descriptions,
  • Boarding requirements; mattresses, blankets, e.t.c
  • Any books’ requirements and
  •  Other personal effects as may be prescribed by individual schools.

The Government has insisted on its resolve to ensure 100 percent transition from Primary to secondary schools. Consequently, all the 2019 KCPE candidates will get places at preferred secondary schools.

List of Shortlisted candidates for 2019 TSC Teacher Internship vacancies; Turkana County

The Teachers Service Commission, TSC, has released the lists of shortlisted candidates for the advertised 10,300 teacher internship posts for Primary and Secondary Schools. According to the Commission, the lists of shortlisted applicants has been dispatched to all counties. “Applicants are advised that interviews shall be conducted at the county TSC offices. A list of applicants have been sent to each county,” reads a memo dated November 7, 2019 from Catherine Lenairoshi; of TSC Corporate Communications Office. According to instructions on the memo, the shortlisted Candidates are required to carry the following to the interviews; whose dates will be announced in due course:
  • i. A valid certificate of Good conduct
  • ii. A valid personal accident cover
  • iii. National ID card
  • iv. Disability card if any
  • v. Two passport size photographs
  • vi. KCSE certificate
  • vii. KCPE certificate
  • viii. Diploma / degree certificate and Transcripts
  • ix. Primary/secondary or college leaving certificate

Universities are the highest learning institutions in Kenya and the World over. They offer training majorly in undegraduate and Post Graduate Studies. In Kenya, the Courses offered in the Universities must be accredited by the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Services, KUCCPS. It is the same body that selects and places students to higher learning institutions; Universities, Colleges and Polytechnics. To qualify for University placement one must attain the minimum set Mean grade and particular course requirements. Each Course offered at particular university has its own cluster cut off points, though. Most university courses take a minimum of 4 years; while, some take even more. An academic year at the university takes two semesters of three months each. University students get fees loans from various organizations. Top on the list is the Higher Education Loans Board, HELB, that advances both loans and Bursaries. Universities run online platforms; portals and websites, where such services as admission application, online accommodation booking, E-learning, exams results downloads and many are provided to students, staff and the general public. On admissions, most universities have admissions in May and September for new students. Various learning modules are provided at the universities. These learning modules include: Full time, School Based, Distance Learning, Evening & Weekend classes and E-Learning.
