The university offers a wide range of education courses in its Faculty of Education. Bachelor of Education Course Requirements: Mean grade C+ (Plus) at KCSE and at least C+ in each of the two teaching subjects, 2 principal passes at A’Level and 1 subsidiary in relevant subjects, Diploma in Education (May be exempted in relevant units). P1 teachers must have scored C+ at KCSE to qualify.

Admission Requirements

ADMISSION OF STUDENTS

The admissions office is in the academic affairs department. The office is mandated to receive, process, and dispatch admission letters for eligible applicants. Kisii University offers various courses, at different levels ranging from certificates to PhD. Students interested in full-time, evening and weekend modes of study can apply for January, May and September intakes. Those interested in school based programs can apply for April, August and December intakes. Application forms are obtained from the admissions office at the main campus or from our campuses across the country. They can also be downloaded from our website >>application forms . The duly filled forms should be accompanied with relevant certificates, a passport size photo and an original bank in pay slip for a non-refundable application fees. The application fees is kshs. 2,000.00 for Degree and enhancement programs, Kshs. 1,000.00 for Diplomas, Kshs.500.00 for certificates and bridging programs. The filled forms can be returned to: The Registrar Academic affairs, Kisii University P.o. Box 408-40200 Kisii. They can also be dropped at the admissions office at the main campus or at any of our campuses countrywide. Application fee can be paid in the following Banks;

BACHELOR OF EDUCATION (SCIENCE)

This curriculum is for the Science Teacher Education program. This program was established at Kisii University in response to the continued need for qualified graduate Science Teachers in the Secondary Schools and tertiary institutions. This program is planned in line with the requirements of the current secondary school curriculum. The Bachelor of Education (science) degree. The program is practical oriented in nature, in keeping with practical and vacation of thrust of the current educational system. The faculty of education and human resources offers professional courses for this program. Here are the subject combinations: 1.MATHS/PHYSICS 2.MATHS/BIOLOGY 3.MATHS/CHEMISTRY 4.MATHS/GEOGRAPHY 5.BIOLOGY/PHYSICS 6.BIOLOGY/CHEMISTRY 7.PHYSICS/CHEMISTRY ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS Candidates must satisfy the minimum entry requirements of the university Candidates must have a mean grade of C+ and above (or equivalent) and at least a C+ in the subject of specialization OR A level with two principal passes in relevant subjects. In addition, they must also satisfy departmental requirements before registering for a course in the particular department

Bachelor of Education Arts in a new four years degree program offered at Kisii University. The program is divided into various sub departments like, Educational Psychology and Counseling, Curriculum and Instructions, Educational Fountains, Administration and Planning, Literature, language and linguistics, Mathematics, economics, business studies and geography. Associate departments include: philosophy, religious studies and history The program aims at training and producing qualified graduate teachers/educators in order to achieve the national goals and objectives of education and development. OBJECTIVES The program is designed to provide adequate opportunities in both theory and practice of education. The Ministry of Education through Equity Group Foundation is offering Secondary School Scholarships in 110 targeted Sub-Counties and fifteen (15) urban centres with informal settlements, to poor and vulnerable children from financially constrained backgrounds and who attained 280 marks and above in 2019 KCPE.

For affirmative action, candidates who are Orphans and/or from Vulnerable Communities and those with special needs and disabilities who attained below 280 marks may be considered.

Only the Candidates who sat for KCPE examinations in 2019 from public primary schools in the 110 Sub-Counties and the fifteen (15) urban centres with informal settlements will be eligible to apply. The 110 targeted Sub-Counties are as per the National Government Administrative areas that existed in the year 2015. The list of the targeted Sub-counties and the fifteen (15) urban centres with informal settlements can be accessed through the Ministry of Education and Equity Group Foundation websites; http://www.education.go.ke and https://egfdmis.equitybank.co.ke/register_elimu

REQUIREMENTS

The applicants must meet the following eligibility criteria:

• Candidates with special needs and disabilities (Physical, Hearing and Visual Impairments, Autism, Albinism, Learning Disabilities and Others); or
• Orphans and vulnerable children; or
• Candidates from vulnerable communities in the target Sub-Counties; or
• Candidates from urban centres with informal settlements; or
• Candidates:

o whose parents/guardians are living with disabilities that have compromised their ability to meet the financial obligations of their children
o whose families are affected by HIV/AIDS and other chronic illnesses with debilitating effects that could render parents and guardians destitute and unable to fend for their families
o whose families are affected by extreme poverty rendering them unable to educate their children
o Who have suffered from neglect, abuse and have no support to continue with their education.

WHERE TO GET APPLICATION FORMS & HOW TO APPLY

Interested applicants are advised to collect the scholarship application forms from the nearest Equity Bank Branch or Equity Bank Agent as from Wednesday 4th December 2019.

Application forms can also be downloaded from the Ministry of Education and Equity Group Foundation websites; http://www.education.go.ke and https://egfdmis.equitybank.co.ke/register_elimu

Duly completed application forms and supporting documents should be submitted to the nearest Equity Bank Branch by 16th December, 2019.

Shortlisted candidates accompanied by parents/guardians will be invited for interviews which will be conducted by the Community Scholarship Advisory Committees.

The scholarship caters for School fees, transport to and from school, learning materials and School kit for the beneficiaries for the four-year education period.

The admission of the 2020 form ones in all private and public Secondary schools shall be, exclusively, done via the Education Ministry’s National Education Management Information System (NEMIS). Schools can access the list of selected learners on NEMIS.

All schools are instructed to make use of NEMIS in admission of students. The process has been simplified to use only the index number. Care should be taken to avoid entering wrong index numbers resulting in inadvertently admission of the wrong student. Private schools are also expected to admit students through NEMIS.

Required Documents

Here is the complete list of items required for admitting a new student/ form one via the National Education Management Information System, NEMIS:

The admission letter.
The learner’s index number, in full.
The Learner’s Birth Certificate.
The learner’s Unique Personal Identifier, UPI.
The learner’s Contact details: Home county, Home Sub- County, Postal address, E-mail address and Phone Number.
Learner’s passport size photograph.
Learner’s special needs; if any.
Mother’s details: ID Number, Name, E-mail and mobile number.
Father’s Details: ID Number, Name, E-mail and mobile number.
Guardian’s Details: ID Number, Name, E-mail and mobile number.

The Admission process

Students will present their letters upon arrival for admission. The schools will then verify the existence of their names in the system. The form ones who report to Secondary schools, as placed by the Ministry, will undergo the following admission process:

The form one reports to the school where placed by the NEMIS system and presents the admission letter that must be downloaded from the Education Ministry’s portal at http://www.education.go.ke/index.php/online-services/form-one-selection.
The admission letter is received by the principal or any other individual as may be delegated by the principal.
The Principal or delegated individual will then log onto the NEMIS system by using a smartphone, tablet or computer that has been connected to the internet (Since the admission process can only be executed online). Log onto the NEMIS system by using the official Ministry’s links: http://nemis.education.go.ke/ or http://nemissystem.education.go.ke/
Once logged in (by entering the User Name and Password which is at the disposal of the Principal), Click on the tab indicated as ‘LEARNER’.
From the drop down list, select Admit/Capture request.
On the new window, type in the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education, KCPE, index number on the search UPI/INDEX box and click on search.
The NEMIS system will automatically load, and display, the student’s details showing that the learner is selected to join the school. In case the learner has not been selected to join the school, please advise him/ her to go to the school where the placement has been effected as shown on the NEMIS system or get help from the local Education office. If the student is selected to join the school, then click on ‘ACCEPT PLACEMENT REQUEST‘.
Fill in the required information to successfully complete the admission process.
Repeat steps 1 to 8, above, for all the 2020 form ones selected to join the school.
You can confirm whether the learners have been captured correctly by Selecting ‘View my Learners’ from the ‘LEARNER’ tab

HOW TO COMPLETE THE ADMISSION PROCESS FOR ALL LEARNERS BY CAPTURING THEIR BIO DATA

The admission process of a learner would be deemed complete once the learner’s Bio data is updated on NEMIS. This can be done by:

Clicking on the Learner Tab followed by ‘Capture Biodata for F1 Learners’.
Proceed to capture the details as would be required on the Displayed form.

The ‘Learner’ Tab on NEMIS

The ‘LEARNER’ tab, on the NEMIS window, can also be used to carry out the following learner related operations:

PENDING REGISTRATION: View a list of learners whose Registration is pending. These are learners whose details have not been entered as required i.e missing some information like their photographs.
VIEW MY LEARNERS: A menu used to view the list of all learners whose details have been fully updated on the NEMIS system.
LIST OF ADMISSION REQUESTS: Shows the list of admission requests as uploaded onto the NEMIS system for approval by the Ministry of Education’s field officers.
LIST OF PROCESSED ADMISSION REQUESTS: To display the list of learners whose admission requests have been approved by the Ministry of Education’s Field officers.
RECEIVE LEARNER: Used to admit a continuing learner; who has transferred from another school.
RELEASE LEARNER: Used to transfer a learner to join another school after the transfer has been granted by the Education Ministry’s Field Officers.

Requesting for Extra Vacancies

Where the capacity of a school has improved due to development of additional facilities in the year, a principal must request for placement of additional students and approval in NEMIS. To achieve this:

Log onto the school’s NEMIS account.
Click on the ‘LEARNER’ tab and select ‘ADJUST SCHOOL F1 CAPACITY’
A window showing the school’s capacity details would be displayed.
Choose the Gender for which you wish to adjust Capacity. Then, enter the new ‘Proposed F1 Maximum Capacity’.
Click on the ‘Save’ button and wait for approval. Once approved, the school can then proceed to admit more learners to fill the available vacancies.

Universities are the highest learning institutions in Kenya and the World over. They offer training majorly in undegraduate and Post Graduate Studies. In Kenya, the Courses offered in the Universities must be accredited by the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Services, KUCCPS. It is the same body that selects and places students to higher learning institutions; Universities, Colleges and Polytechnics. To qualify for University placement one must attain the minimum set Mean grade and particular course requirements. Each Course offered at particular university has its own cluster cut off points, though. Most university courses take a minimum of 4 years; while, some take even more. An academic year at the university takes two semesters of three months each. University students get fees loans from various organizations. Top on the list is the Higher Education Loans Board, HELB, that advances both loans and Bursaries. Universities run online platforms; portals and websites, where such services as admission application, online accommodation booking, E-learning, exams results downloads and many are provided to students, staff and the general public. On admissions, most universities have admissions in May and September for new students. Various learning modules are provided at the universities. These learning modules include: Full time, School Based, Distance Learning, Evening & Weekend classes and E-Learning.
