KMTC Imenti was established following an agreement between the KMTC Board of Directors and the County Government of Meru in 2018. The Campus admitted its first students in September 2019 taking a short course in Foundation of Community Health and Development. The Campus Principal is Mr. Samuel Njagi (MSc).
The Sh8.84 billion Kenya Primary Education Development (PRIEDE) project being funded by the Global Partnership Education (GPE) has been lauded for positively impacting learners and teachers in all the 23,000 primary schools countrywide.
The project, initiated in 2015 has transformed 10 million learners and over 100,000 teachers, thus posting an improved foundational numeracy for early grades learners (1, 2, 3,) in mathematics and strengthened Boards of management in accountability systems at the school and national level.
Through the project, the government has also been able to distribute books to the learners, as well as spend Sh2 billion to provide instructional materials and improved infrastructure in schools, over the implementation period that ends in December 2021.
“We have been able to provide books to learners and trained over 100,000 teachers during holidays for three days consecutively. We have also seen improvement in instructional materials and infrastructure during the implementation period of the project,” said Deputy Director of Project Coordination at the Directorate of Projects Coordination, Peter Gachathi.
Gachathi was speaking at Unoa Primary School in Wote town, during a visit to assess the impact on some of the schools that benefited following an extension of the project from 2018 to 2021.
The Deputy Director who was accompanied by a team of officers further disclosed that through the programme, the Ministry of Education developed policy guidelines from the lessons learned that were scaled down to all the primary schools in the country.
For instance, he said the government was able to come up with the National Education Management Information System that captures data of all learners, teachers and support staff in schools.
“Initially we had targeted 4,000 primary schools, but because of the success of the project, we were able to upscale it and developed a policy guideline and distributed it to all 23,000 public primary schools in the country,” he said.
Other stakeholders who were trained during the period included head teachers and Board of Management members totaling to over 46,000.
Among the learning institutions that benefited from the project included special schools that received Braille books besides other equipment to improve learning among the deaf and blind.
The Deputy Director revealed that the project was a success, because there was close monitoring besides supervision from the education officers, who were well aware of the programme.
At the same time, School Based Teacher Support (SBTS) that enhanced methodology for teachers to impart mathematical concepts including lesson observation, lesson study, action research and virtual learning to learners came to be.
Speaking at the forum, World Bank Specialist on Education Ruth Charo, while calling for equal opportunities for all in education, said many children living with disabilities if accorded an opportunity will perform well and eventually contribute to the economic development of the country.
Others present during the occasion included World Bank Education Specialist Sergio Venegas, Joseph Wasiklo from Elimu Yetu Coalition, and the CEO National Council for Nomadic Education in Kenya (NACONEK) Harun Mohammed.
On his part, Makueni County Commissioner Maalim Mohammed thanked GPE for funding the project that has seen improved performance across schools in the county.
Mohammed spoke in his Wote office when Gachathi led his team for a courtesy call.
The county commissioner underscored the need for a multi-agency approach in enhancing delivery of government services to wananchi.
“Through the multi-agency approach, we have been able to deliver desks and provide facemasks as well as sanitizers to our schools,” he said.
Mohammed further challenged school principals and head teachers to take advantage of the ongoing rains and plant trees for posterity.

The student at Memba mixed Secondary school in Rarieda, Siaya County, collapsed moments after he had sat for the exam that was done on Friday November 15, 2019.
The student identified as Juma Fredrick felt unwell after the exam. He then went ahead to inform his colleagues how he felt. This is when he collapsed and was rushed to St Mary’s Lwak Mission Hospital. On arriving at the hospital, he was pronounced dead.
This comes days after another students died after sitting his Chemistry Practical exams. Victor Kiptoo, a student at Barina Mixed Day and Boarding Secondary School died days after the Chemistry Practical exam that was done on Friday November 8, 2019. According to reports, Kiptoo died after developing chest pains; supposedly as a result of exposure to Xylene, one of the chemicals used during the practical. Several teachers and students complained of illnesses as a result of the exposure to the poisonous reagent.
MINISTRY DENIES CLAIMS
But, the Ministry of Education has come out to deny claims that the Chemicals used in the Chemistry practical this year were dangerous. The Principal Secretary for Early Learning and Basic Education (PS), Dr. Belio Kipsang has clarified that the chemicals that were used during the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education examination during the chemistry practical are the same ones students have been using during chemistry practicals in regular lessons. The PS said the Ministry had not received any formal complaint about the chemicals.

MOSORIOT TTC:Mosoriot TTC is a Public teacher training college located in Mosoriot town of Nandi county; within the Rift Valley Region of Kenya.
MOSORIOT TEACHERS COLLEGE HISTORY
Mosoriot Teachers College was established in 1959 at the current Kapsabet Girls High School Compound. The founder of Mosoriot Teachers College was Africa Inland Mission (AIM), currently Africa Inland Church (AIC). Mosoriot Teachers College was brought under the protestant education oversight, Christian Churches Education Association (CCEA) from 1964. CCEA policy was ecumenical regulation of education in sister institutions, provision and custody of assets of protestant owned schools and colleges.
The college was re-located to its current site in 1960. The site had been reserved for grass for cattle during dry spells for the community by the Senior Chief Joel Kiptenai Malel in 1959. He was the Senior Chief of Kosirai Location. He had transferred his office to the Current site that houses the Catholic Church, St. Francis Primary School, and, St. Francis Girls Secondary School – Cheptarit.
The college was named after the then colonial District Commissioner (DC) of the Nandi by the name Hunter. The Hunters Tree College emanates from the zeal and passion of the DC in planting blue gum trees in the current site on the College and hence the name ‘Kap-Hunters’.
The founder and Principal of Mosoriot Teachers’ College was called J. Rogers (1960-1961). The name of the college was changed from Hunters Tree College to Mosoriot Teachers College probably to Africanize and indigenize it.‘Mosoriot’ among the Nandi community is the name of the species of tree plant of the family of climbers that grows near river banks. The climber was used by the community in fixing the handles of the traditional hoes.
The College Board of Governors then allocated the land on which Malel Primary School was constructed. The Chief of Mutwot location at that time, Mr. David Kemboi, spearheaded the establishment of Malel Primary School together with the then Principal (Mr. Gilbert Oriya).Malel Mosoriot Teachers’ College Primary School was started in 1987 as Cheptarit East Primary School. The school was intended to serve the college staff since other good schools were far off in Eldoret.
The college sat on a 92-acre piece of land until 2013 when the process of establishing of a University Campus, Koitalel Samoei University College (KSUC) was mooted. The college is now sitting on 41 acres of land: 10 acres of Lagoon land where the college sewage plant stands; and 31 acres of land to accommodate students’ dormitories, staff houses, college gate, Tuition, and administration block, library, all fields/playgrounds, and Malel Mosoriot Teachers’ College Primary School.

The history of Koitaleel Samoei University College dates back to 2012/2014 when the idea to have a University situated in Nandi County named after the legendary leader Koitaleel Samoei was mooted.
A steering committee was constituted and a series of consultative meetings and workshops were held between the County Government of Nandi, the University of Nairobi, and the community to support the establishment of the University College in the County in line with the constitutional provisions.
The leaders from Nandi County requested His Excellency the fourth President of Kenya Uhuru Kenyatta to formally gazette the University College. On 12th June 2017, he graciously presided over with the then Deputy President Dr. William Samoei Ruto in the laying of the foundation stone at the proposed Main Campus at Nandi Hills.
The request was formalized by Legal Notice No. 117 of September 6, 2018, which established KSUC as a Constituent College of the University of Nairobi, and on 19th October 2018, the first University College Council was gazetted.
Named after the eponymous hero; Koitaleel Samoei
KSUC is named after the eponymous Nandi hero, Koitaleel Samoei who led an 11-year resistance against the railway construction by the British Colonialists. To end the resistance, a British Colonel, Richard Meinetzhagen, invited Koitaleel Samoei to negotiate a truce meeting after he led a rebellion against the colonial invasion of the Nandi.
However, it is reported that when Koitaleel Samoei stretched his hand with Meinertzhagen, he shot him dead at point-blank and his death ended the Nandi Resistance. Koitaleel has been immortalized as a national hero and a legendary leader in the Kalenjin Community and the society at large.
Location
The University College has established two Campuses in Nandi County; namely, Nandi Hills which is located 15 km from Kapsabet, and the Mosoriot Campus which is located along the busy Eldoret – Kapsabet highway approximately 27 km from Eldoret town and 23 km from Kapsabet town.
The highway is well-tarmacked for easy accessibility to the institution. The University College sits on a 50-acre piece of prime arable land that was formally occupied by Mosoriot Teachers Training College. The setting of the
University College in the area provides a serene environment making it conducive for scholarly and academic work geared towards strengthening intellectual exchange towards achieving its core mandate of teaching and learning.
The University College collaborates with the community that has a wealth of
renowned athletes in promoting its niche in Sports Science Management such as the legendary athlete Eliud Kipchoge among others.
The University College envisages being “The premier University of Sports Management Science” as it strives “To produce quality graduates through quality education, training, research and consultancy for social and economic development”.
KSUC neighbors Mosoriot Teachers Training College, the Kenya Medical Training College, and Mosoriot Market with whom KSUC collaborates closely in various engagements. The ecosystem in Nandi County is
favorable with sufficient rain throughout the year. The cool wet climate, complimented by the rich volcanic soils makes the region an ideal area for tea, maize, and dairy farming.
