Minet TSC Medical Cover (Ultimate Guide)

REGISTRATION FOR THE MINET INSURANCE TSC COVER

The registration process for the chief member (teacher) and their dependents is straightforward. It involves a USSD registration and a biometric registration at the hospital.

All you have to do, as a principal member, is to dial *865# on your Safaricom or Airtel line, and key in your TSC and National I.D numbers. If successful, you must enter your name, role and gender after which you will receive a message confirming successful registration and a prompt to register dependents. To register dependents, follow the same process.

HOW TO ACCESS MEDICAL SERVICES FROM MINET

As a member of the Teachers’ Minet medical scheme, you can access any of the AON Minet service providers on the company’s online platform countrywide. The list is available by dialling *340# from your Safaricom/Airtel line. All you need is to follow the on-screen prompts to get the service you need.

BENEFITS FROM MEMBERS OF THE MINET INSURANCE TSC MEDICAL COVER

Benefits for members can be categorized into inpatient services and outpatient services. –> Inpatient services: As part of the inpatient cover, the principal member and dependents are eligible to:

  • Emergency road and air evacuation within East Africa leading to admission
  • Hospital accommodation charges:
  • Group G-N standard ward bed rate of NHIF rebate pay
  • Group P-R standard private ward bed rate net of NHIF rebate per day
  • ICU/HDU theatre charges
  • Physician’s/Surgeon’s remuneration
  • Medicine, dressings and internal surgical equipment
  • Inpatient radiotherapy, hydrotherapy, chemotherapy, and physiotherapy
  • Pathology, ECG, MRI scans, x-ray, ultrasound, and computerized tomography
  • Post-hospitalization welfare (within 21 days after discharge from hospital)
  • Hospital accommodation for accompanying parent or guardian for hospitalized dependents below seven (7) years
  • Rehabilitation services and services such as home care, physiotherapy and occupational therapy Inpatient ophthalmological and dental surgeries
  • Treatment of congenital disabilities/genital disorders
  • Treatment of HIV/AIDS-related illnesses Treatment of pre-existing and chronic conditions like cancer

–> Outpatient Services: The TSC medical cover will also offer the outpatient cover, which will include the following benefits:

  • Regular outpatient consultations
  • Daycare surgery for minor surgeries that do not need admission
  • Diagnostic laboratory and radiology services like x-rays, ultrasounds, MRI and CT Scans
  • Prescribed routine laboratory tests
  • Recommended physiotherapy Prescribed drugs and dressing
  • HIV/Aids-related conditions and prescribed ARVs to the full limit per family per annum
  • Pap smear for ladies and PSA for men (for the principal member-only)
  • Dialysis Regular antenatal check-ups
  • Regular immunizations and KEPI vaccinations

–> Maternity services: The maternity cover is limited to the principal member and the legal spouse. Newborn babies must be registered immediately upon birth. Some of the benefits included in this package are:

  • Routine antenatal check-ups
  • Regular immunizations or KEPI vaccinations
  • Delivery remunerations
  • Emergency and elective caesarean section
  • Postnatal care of up to six weeks
  • Pre-maturity costs Congenital conditions

–> Dental services: Dental benefits from the scheme include but are not limited to:

  • Root canal treatment
  • Tooth extractions
  • Dental consultations and anaesthetic fees
  • Scaling required by a prevailing medical condition and approved by a dentist

–> Optical services: The optical cover caters for all eye-related treatments. It includes, but is not limited to the following benefits:

  • Lenses
  • Spectacle frames

–> Evacuation services: In case of an emergency, you need to contact Minet immediately through their call centre hotline number. The insurance cover will include the following road and air ambulance and evacuation services:

  • Emergency road ambulance evacuation services within East Africa
  • Emergency air ambulance evacuation services within East Africa
  • Overseas evacuation/treatment abroad in India, if treatment is not available locally and within the policy limits

If a member is involved in a medical emergency, he/she will access services at the recommended service providers in their region of residence. The Minet insurance broker Kenya response team will receive the requests and will coordinate the evacuation process.

–> Last expense benefits: The Last Expense cover is a benefit payable to the next of kin in case of the demise of the principal member, to help in covering the funeral expenses. It is payable within 48hrs and via the mobile money transfer provided you avail all the information needed to Minet. The benefit is of Kshs. 100, 000 across all job groups. To access it, you need to email Minet Kenya notifying them of the death. You must also include a burial permit and an official TSC letter. The email should also include:

  • Name of deceased
  • TSC number
  • Date of death
  • Next of kin’s name and designation (spouse and children)
  • Next of kin’s ID number
  • Next of kin’s contact (mobile number)

–> Group life benefits: The Group Life cover is payable to the family of the deceased to aid in reorganizing their lives after the death of the principal member. The benefit graduates with time across job groups and only applies upon the passing away of the primary member. To access the group life benefit, you need to avail the following information to Minet Kenya:

  • Name of deceased
  • Death certificate of deceased
  • The burial permit
  • Surrender of original or copy of ID card of the deceased
  • Bank details: bank name, branch, account name and account number

List of schools yet to upload 2020 form one selection list on Nemis per county- Busia

About 5,397 schools are yet to upload their 2020 from one selection lists onto the National Education Management Information System, Nemis. This is according to the latest data from the Education Ministry. This mostly affects the Sub County and Private schools whose selection was done manually. The list detailing the school’s name and location indicates that the schools are yet to upload their selection lists onto their Nemis accounts in readiness for the admission exercise in January 2020.

The Education Ministry has set reporting date for the 2020 form ones to secondary schools to be between January Monday 13th to Friday 17th. This will be about one week after the other students would have reported back to school for the new year.

How to Select Grade 10 Subjects and schools

To select Grade 10 schools and subjects under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) in Kenya, Grade 9 learners should first choose a career pathway (STEM, Social Sciences, or Arts & Sports Science). Then, they’ll select three subject combinations within that pathway and finally, choose four schools for each combination, totaling 12 schools. To select preferred Grade 10 Schools and Subject Combinations, use the Ministry of Education portal selection.education.go.ke.

1. How you can Choose a Career Pathway:

  • Identify your interests and potential career aspirations.
  • Select one of the three pathways: STEM, Social Sciences, or Arts & Sports Science.
  • Confirm your choice to proceed with the pathway.

2. Select Subject Combinations:

  • The portal will provide you with a list of subject combinations available within your chosen pathway.
  • Choose three subject combinations that align with your interests and strengths.

3. Select Preferred Senior Schools:

SELECTION OF PATHWAYS AND SENIOR SCHOOLS

• Determination of pathways per senior school
• Determination of vacancies for boarding and day schooling in senior schools
• Selection of pathways, subjects’ combination and schools by grade 9 learners Selection based on pathway

The learner will select 12 schools for their chosen pathway as follows.
– Four 4 schools in first choice track and subject combination
– Four (4) schools in second choice subject combination
– Four (4) schools in third choice subject combination (Total 12 schools) Selection based on accommodation

Out of the 12 schools selected based on pathway;

  • 9 will be boarding schools; 3 from the learners’ home county, 6 from outside their home county/county of residence.
  • Three (3) day schools in their home sub county/sub county of residence. (Total 12 schools)
    Pre selection – A school that does not allow open placement can apply to be pre-select if it meets the criteria defined by the Ministry of Education.

How Placement of learners to Senior Schools (SS) at Grade 10 will be done

It will be based on:

  • Top 6 learners per gender in each STEM track per sub-county will be placed for Boarding in  schools of choice
  • Top 3 learners per gender in each Social Science track per sub-county will be placed for Boarding in schools of choice
  • Top 2 learners per gender in each Arts and Sports Science track per sub-county be placed to Boarding schools of their choice
  • Placement of Candidates with Achievement Level of averaging 7 and 8 per track to boarding schools of their choice

Admission and replacement process

  • Placement results will show where learners have been placed
  • Admission letters/joining instructions shall be accessed online using the learner’s assessment Number.
  • All schools, both public and private shall admit Grade 10 through KEMIS
  • Leaners will be entered to the KEMIS System only after reporting physically to the school.
  •  Daily online reporting shall be monitored through KEMIS

Replacements

  •  Schools with vacancies will declare through their respective county directors of education
  •  Learners who wish to change schools will make requests through the heads of junior schools at least 2 weeks before the official grade 10 reporting date
  • Priority shall be given to those who had earlier selected the schools they are requesting for  Approvals by MoE shall be based on senior schools’ documented capacity
  • Upon a request’s approval, the joining instructions shall be accessed online; at no time shall a school issue printed letters for replacement cases
  • Replacement will be done once and shall be irreversible

KTDA farmers to receive reduced tea bonuses at end of October

Smallholder tea farmers affiliated to the Kenya Tea Development Agency (KTDA), will receive their bonus payment at the end of October.

This follows the conclusion of meetings by directors of the 54 KTDA managed tea factories on Friday last week.

In a statement, KTDA Chairman, David Ichoho, said that factory directors had reviewed the performance of their companies over the last 12 months and declared the second payment rates to the respective farmers.

“Generally, the rate per kilo does not vary much from those of the previous Financial Year,” said the Chairman.

Bonus rates are determined by the factory’s income for the year, the quality of leaf delivered to the factory, the cost of production and the average price of tea that the factory fetched at the market.

These costs are then deducted from the factory’s income and the balance paid to farmers as bonus.

The announcement comes at a time when the tea sector recorded an 8.3 per cent drop in the CTC tea prices at the Mombasa auction from an average of 2.38 United States dollars in the last Financial Year to 2.18 dollars in the Financial Year 2020/2021.

KTDA says that the drop in prices was occasioned by oversupply of tea in markets, a scenario that has been playing out since 2018.

The Agency has also blamed price drop on the business disruptions occasioned by the Covid-19 pandemic that not only caused global shipping challenges, but also reduced the demand for tea in key tea consuming countries.

“The relatively favorable exchange rate of the Kenya Shilling against the US dollar has ,however, helped shore up earnings from the sale of tea which is generally dollar dominated,” said Ichoho.

The current exchange rate for the US dollar against the Kenyan Shillings stands at Sh110.

The Agriculture Cabinet Secretary, Peter Munya, asked tea factories to reduce their cost of production as a way of maximizing earnings for tea farmers.

Speaking in Meru County, Munya said that most factories were incurring high production costs which were eating into the farmers’ income.

To mitigate this, Ichoho, said that the newly constituted Board was working to ensure that KTDA managed factories were implementing energy efficient changes that have seen the amount of energy used to produce a kilo of tea drop by 15 per cent.

To further cushion farmers from low tea prices, Ichoho said that KTDA had set a minimum price for produce delivered to the Agency.

According to the Chairman, already prices of tea under the minimum price have improved significantly, heralding better returns for farmers at the end of the current financial year ending June next year.

“We have embarked on various reforms and initiatives aimed at increasing money to farmers. The reforms are already bearing fruits and farmers should look forward to higher returns in the coming months,” said Ichoho.

Duties and Responsibilities

Duties and responsibility will entail:

  1. Collecting, collaborating and analyzing data and preparation of reports on various devolution sector issues;
  2. Implementing regulations, framework, guidelines, standards and procedures for devolution and intergovernmental relations;
  • Planning and coordinating Capacity Building, Civic Education and Citizen Participation program and activities;
  1. Conducting research, monitoring and evaluation of devolution programs and projects; and
  2. Coordinating inter-governmental relations sector forums and activities

TSC releases new recruitment schedule for teachers, pushes interview dates forward

The Teachers Service Commission, TSC, has made changes to the recruitment schedule for teachers in September/ October 2020. According to the new schedule, selection of successful applicants, who will then fill employment forms, will be done by the TSC County Directors between Monday September 28, 2020 and Friday October 2, 2020.

Successful applicants will still report to their new schools on Monday January 4, 2021.
