Over 25,000 Teachers Promoted in 2024/25 Nationwide Exercise; Here is the Summary Per County
In the fiscal year 2024–2025, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) promoted 25,252 teachers across the nation, signifying a notable progress in school leadership, teacher retention, and motivation.
Educators in elementary and secondary schools benefited from this initiative, which encompassed job groups C2 through D5.
Promotions in Grades C4 (8,508) and C3 (4,971) were the most prevalent, succeeded by D1 (5,425). As D5 only recorded 47 teachers, promotions to higher administrative levels were less frequent, indicative of the competitive nature and limited availability of such elevated positions.
With 527 teachers promoted, Bomet County, for instance, distinguished itself among the counties with the highest number of promotions. The distribution was as follows:
C2 – 31
C3 – 108
C4 – 162
C5 – 120
D1 – 38
D2 – 20
D3 – 44
D4 – 3
D5 – 1
The TSC’s principal mission to ensure career advancement, elevate teacher morale, and ultimately improve the standards for teaching and learning throughout Kenya encompasses these promotions. They also aim to enhance school management systems and address existing administrative gaps.
Due to smaller staffing bases, Wajir, Lamu, and Tana River experienced relatively fewer promotions than counties such as Machakos (679), Meru (678), and Makueni (668).
The TSC has confirmed that the promotion process adhered to rigorous merit-based criteria, which include performance, leadership potential, duration of service, and qualifications.
In the forthcoming weeks, communication regarding deployment is expected to be dispatched to the promoted teachers.
The education community widely lauds this initiative as a gesture of appreciation for the dedication and commitment of educators.
