Nancy Macharia is leaving her position as the head of the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), and the commission is now looking for someone to take her place. The job advertisement was published recently, and interested candidates have until May 27 to apply. Macharia’s term ends on June 30, 2025.
In December, Macharia suggested that the commission start the hiring process for her successor in January to ensure a smooth transition, but it seems her suggestion was not followed.
To apply for the job, candidates must be Kenyan citizens with a degree in education from a recognized university, and they should have at least ten years of experience in education or management. The new head of TSC will be appointed for five years but can be reappointed for another term based on their performance. Macharia has been in her role since July 2015.
Candidates need to fill out an application form from the TSC website and submit it with their CV, ID, academic certificates, and other documents. They also need to get clearance from various government agencies. Applications can be submitted online or delivered in person to the TSC office.
After the application period ends, the names of applicants and the interview schedule will be published.
In her letter to the commission chair, Macharia mentioned important tasks that need to be addressed, such as negotiating agreements with teachers’ unions and hiring new teachers before her term ends. She emphasized the need for a quick recruitment process to ensure a smooth transition for the new CEO.
In a recent publication, Macharia reflected on her ten years in office, noting both her achievements and challenges. She expressed pride in the growth of the teaching workforce during her tenure, despite facing criticism for various issues.
