KNEC sets deadlines for 2025 CBC assessments in July and August
The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has announced important dates for school projects and performance tasks for Grades 3, 7, 8, stage-based learners, and Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) students in 2025.
In a notice on Monday, KNEC stated that schools need to complete these tasks and upload the scores to the CBA portal by July 31 for Grades 3, 7, 8, and stage-based learners, and by August 30 for KJSEA students.
KNEC mentioned that the projects and tasks for these grades have been made available on the CBA portal (https://cba.knec.ac.ke) for schools to access.
Schools must ensure that the tasks are done and all scores are uploaded on time. Teachers will assess the students using guidelines provided by KNEC.
KNEC emphasized that schools must complete the projects and upload scores by the following deadlines: July 31, 2025, for Grades 3, 7, 8, and stage-based learners, and August 30, 2025, for KJSEA projects.
The council warned that if schools miss these deadlines, especially for KJSEA scores, they will face financial penalties.
A fine of Sh500 will be charged for each KJSEA project uploaded after the deadline, according to the notice.
Headteachers must also keep records and save evidence from the project assessments for accountability and future reference.
KNEC advised that materials needed for the assessments should be gathered from the school environment or created as much as possible.
KJSEA is a national exam introduced as part of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) to evaluate students at the end of Grade 9, marking their move from junior school to senior school.
Over 1.2 million Grade 9 students are expected to take the KJSEA in November as they prepare to transition to senior school next year.
