KUCCPS Releases Eligibility Criteria and Minimum Requirements for Admissions

KUCCPS Releases Eligibility Criteria and Minimum Requirements for Admissions

The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has outlined the eligibility criteria and minimum requirements for students wishing to be placed in various higher education institutions.

As per KUCCPS, applicants aiming for placement in public or private universities must be Kenyan citizens, as non-citizens are currently not eligible for university placements in Kenya. However, non-Kenyans can apply for the Diploma in Primary Teacher Education, Diploma in Early Childhood Teacher Education programs, and programs at the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC).

Additionally, applicants must have taken the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination, which is conducted annually by the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC).

Minimum Kuccps placement Requirements

To apply for degree, diploma, certificate, and artisan courses through KUCCPS, candidates must meet certain minimum requirements. Specifically, those seeking a degree must achieve a minimum KCSE grade of C+ (plus), while diploma applicants need at least a C- (minus). For certificate courses, a minimum grade of D+ (plus) in KCSE is required.

KUCCPS emphasizes that only candidates who apply through its platform will be considered for the programs they select. To be eligible for a particular course, applicants must fulfill the minimum admission criteria listed on the KUCCPS Students’ Portal.

KUCCPS stated, “Placement is conducted based on merit, and an approved Affirmative Action Criteria (including Gender, Persons with Disabilities, and Marginalized Regions) is applied to facilitate access to higher education.” However, obtaining a preferred course is competitive and depends on the qualifications of all applicants and the number of available spots in the program.

How to Apply for Kuccps placement

KUCCPS announces placement application details through both print and electronic media.

Applicants need to log into the KUCCPS Student Portal at students.kuccps.net. Once on the portal, they will be prompted to enter their KCSE index number, the year of examination, and their password. Students are advised to use their Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) index number as their password.

This update comes shortly after KUCCPS announced the opening of its portal for university course applications this week.

Kagumo Teachers College

 ABOUT KAGUMO TTC

The present Kagumo TTC – which started as a primary school- has a long history as an institution of learning; a history that stretches back towards the early years of the 20th century. The land parcels on which the college stands were acquired for institutional purposes through the intervention and mediation of the African council in the late 1920s.

However, the actual construction of the first buildings – offices for the principal – began in 1930. One, Mr. Carr, was the first contractor for the institution. This institution opened doors with a humble enrolment of eight (8) students and a small staff of six (6) for the primary teachers’ training college in 1944.

Later, it expanded to cater for an increased demand for teachers in the country. This significant expansion was strengthened further when Kagumo became an academic complex through the introduction of a secondary school wing in 1949.

The primary, secondary and college academic programmes harmoniously co-existed until 1960 when it became necessary to restructure the physical co-existence. Consequently, the primary school wing was renamed as ‘Kiambuiri primary school’ and was relocated to an adjacent parcel of land where it stands to-date.

At the same time, the secondary school section was shifted to a new location in the Kiganjo area of Nyeri. However, its name remained as ‘Kagumo High School’. The original institutional facilities were left for the expansion of Kagumo TTC.

The growth went on successfully and by 1982 the college had produced 6,661 qualified primary school teachers.

ACADEMIC PROGRAMS OFFERED AT KAGUMO TTC

As an institution of Teacher Education, Kagumo TTC offers Agriculture, Physics, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, History, Geography, English, Kiswahili, French, German, Arabic, Mandarin, Art & Design, Music, Kisomalia, Kikamba, Gikuyu, Kitharaka, Integrated science, Power mechanics Technology , Aviation Technology and Mechatronics Technology in order to adequately equip the graduates to take up their rightful place in teaching and national development.

2021 KUCCPS placement news for KCSE 2020 candidates

All the 2020 KCSE candidates will get places at Universities, after all. This ends the speculations that the Government was planning to change the minimum entry grade to university from the normal C+ (plus). The process of placing the 2020 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) Candidates into higher institutions of learning has been started.

The candidates will now be able to know their courses and higher learning institutions they will join. The Process will be carried out by the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS).

Education Cabinet Secretary, Professor George Magoha, on Monday 24th May, launched the selection process at the Joseph Kangethe primary school in Nairobi. Over 143,149 candidates who scored the minimum university entry grade of (C+, plus and above) will secure a slot in both private and public universities under the government-sponsored programme.

The candidates with C+ (plus) and above will now jostle for the available vacancies and courses in universities. Of these; 893 scored A (plain), 6,420 had A- (minus) while, 14,427 garnered grade B+ (plus). Others were: 25,207 (B plain), 38,194 (B- minus) and 57,999 (C+ plus).

CS George Magoha says the TVET system and Universities have places for all the 747,171 candidates who sat for the 2020 KCSE exams.

Other KCSE 2020 candidates, who will not make it for the degree courses, will be placed in colleges and TVET institutions.

Previous admissions

The Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) emerged the most preferred university after leading in the numbers of new students’ admissions for the 2020/2021 academic year.

In the admissions results released by the Kenya universities and Colleges Central Placement Service, KUCCPS, the institution admitted 6,006 students who sat for the 2019 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education, KCSE, examinations. University of Nairobi, UON, cliched second spot after getting 5,894 new students. In third position was Maseno university that got a share of 5,716 admissions. Kenyatta, Kisii and Moi universities got 5,659, 5,566 and 4,948 students; respectively.

This was the third year in a row that JKUAT was taking the lion share of the new students’ slots.

Kabarak and Daystar universities were the only universities that were able to admit more students than their declared capacity. The two are private universities.
