2020 Kisumu Boys’ Geography Contest: Full details and invitation letter

The Kisumu Boys annual Geography Contest is here with us, again. You can not afford to miss this great contest where learners will be equipped with the latest skills and techniques on how to answer questions in the subject. You, as a teacher, will also get a chance to gauge your learners’ performance against their peers.

Kisumu Boys High school is pleased to invite you to the Kisumu Ceography Contest to be held on Sunday, 17″ May, 2020 at Kisumu Boys High School as from 8.00 a.m.

You are requested to:-

Carry a set of eight to ten students for Senior Entry and another set of eight to ten students for the Junior Entry.
Senior entry will cover both paper one and two topics. Junior entry will cover form one to two and the first three topics of form three (see attached topics to be covered).
You can enter as many sets as you wish in each category.
For each set you will be required to pay a non refundable registration fee of Sh2,000 (two thousand) only.
Carry packed lunch for the day.
Each school will be required to carry at least one teacher to participate in the marking exercise.
Carry Yimbo map for each student participating in the contest.

All students are required to revise thoroughly for the contest. Form fours will register for Seniors while form threes can be registered for Junior.

Kereri Girls High School in Kisii County managed a mean score of 6.9 in the 2019 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education, KCSE, examination; up from the 6.4 score in 2018. This was a deviation of +049. The school registered a total of 368 candidates in 2019.

198 candidates scored a mean grade of C+(plus) and above; hence, booking direct tickets to university; representing 54% of the total candidature. One Candidate scored mean grade of an A(plain) while those scoring A- (minus) were 6. Others scored B+ (32), B (44), B- (61) and C+ (54 candidates).

ST PAULS IGONGA SECONDARY SCHOOL’S KCSE RESULTS

Individual candidates can check their KCSE results by sending an SMS with their full index number (11digits) followed by the word KCSE. The SMS can be sent from any subscriber’s line (Safaricom, Airtel or any other) to 20076. For example, send the SMS in the format 23467847002KCSE to 20076. There should be no space left between the index number and the word KCSE.

One can also download the whole school’s KCSE results by Visiting the Official KNEC exams portal; https://www.knec-portal.ac.ke/. This one requires the school’s log in credentials.

Finally, candidates can visit the school for their results. This is usually a day after the results have been released. It is important that you check your result slip to ensure there are no errors on it. Be keen to see that details such as your name, index number and sex are accurate. In case of any discrepancy, please notify your principal or KNEC immediately for correction.

Maryhill Girls High School is a girls’ national boarding school situated in Thika along Thika – Gatukuyu road.

Maryhill Girls’ High School was founded in 1933 when some great missionary women (Sisters of Our Lady of Africa) answered the call of serving the children who were born of mixed races in East Africa. These children were discriminated upon on the African, European and Asian Schools. The school acquired its name from Mary Mother of Jesus and the hill on which it stands. Soon after independence, the school acquired a new phase where the first bright African girls were admitted and Maryhill became one of the most prestigious schools in the country. The school was later turned into a public school. In 1989 when the school presented the first candidates in 8-4-4 system of education.

Maryhill Girls High School is a girls’ national boarding school situated in Thika along Thika – Gatukuyu road. The school has a student population of 1616 students currently. It is an eight streamed school offering seventeen subjects in the 8-4-4- curriculum. The school also offers a variety of other co-curricular activities such as Drama, Music, variety of games like hockey, swimming, volleyball, tennis to name but a few.

OLOOSEOS SECONDARY SCHOOL’S BRIEF HISTORY

Olooseos Girls’ Secondary School is located in Kajiado County in Kenya’s Rift Valley. It started out as a public boarding school in 1987, meant to provide an alternative to girls in the surrounding area who had been rescued from early marriage and Female Genital Mutilation. Parents of students here are mostly low-income earners engaged in menial jobs, and mostly poorly educated.

Olooseos has a student population of just under 400, mainly from the county. The average grade in the national secondary school leaving examination, KCSE, is a C.

The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) online portal is open for the 2023 KCSE examination class and other eligible persons to apply for courses in universities, TVET institutions, Teachers Training Colleges (TTCs) and the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC).

The application will close on February 22, 2024. To facilitate a smooth application process, KUCCPS has established support desks in training institutions across Kenya.

Applying for Kuccps courses online has been made very simple. Follow the easy steps below to apply for Kuccps placement online:

Step 1: Log in to students.kuccps.net directly or type “KUCCPS Students Portal” on your search engine (e.g. Google] and click the link “Student Login”.

To log in, enter the applicant’s KCSE Index Number without a stroke (/). Enter the KCSE Year. Enter a password, which is the Applicant’s Birth Certificate Number (Entry Number) or KCPE Index Number.

If none goes through, try the Birth Certificate Serial Number (the one at the top). If still unsuccessful, contact KUCCPS through 0205137400/0723954927 or visit any of the KUCCPS support centres or any Huduma Centre for assistance.

Step 2: Once logged in, on the menu bar at the top of the page, click the tab “Programme Lists”. You will see these documents:

Degree Cluster Document

Certificate Programmes
Artisan Programmes

Click any of the above depending on the programmes or institutions that wish to apply for. The document will download separately as a PDF file. Check the downloaded document for available programmes, programme codes, previous cut-off points and other information.

Before you move to the next step, note down the Programme Codes for all the courses that you intend to apply for.

Step 3. Back to the portal, on the menu bar, click “Application/Revision”. You will see either one or two forms for submitting the programme codes at different levels (Degree only or Degree and Diploma or Diploma and Certificate or Certificate and Artisan or Artisan only).

Step 4. Type the programme codes that you noted down earlier, in the relevant form. (To minimize errors, you will not be able to copy and paste the programme codes.) As you type the codes, you will notice that the system will be “Fetching Data” and “Checking Requirements”.

Allow these processes to complete before you submit. Once the system has completed fetching data and checking requirements, it will display the name of each programme under the respective codes, and indicate if the student meets the minimum requirements.

Step 5. After all the programme data has been fetched and displayed, click SUBMIT. A popup box will display payment instructions.

On the pop-up message, click “HERE” to pay the indicated amount. The system will open a payment page as a new tab.

Select your preferred payment method and follow the instructions.

For the M-Pesa Option, follow the provided steps for paying through the Government e-Citizen Paybill Number 222222. Enter the provided account number and pay the indicated amount (Ksh1,500).After paying, you will receive a confirmation SMS from M-Pesa.

Step 6. Go back to application window and enter the account number in the slot written “Payment REF” then click SUBMIT. (Be careful not to use the M-Pesa transaction code but the provided Account Number).

Give the system a few seconds to display a notification that the application is successful.

If you make a mistake, repeat the process but do not pay again. Instead, re-enter the account number from the previous payment and submit.

The Kenya National Examinations Council, Knec, has released a new simplified user manual for the Competency Based Assessment (CBA) Portal

Competency Based Assessment (CBA) Portal is a web-based system for managing the online delivery of assessment tools, registration of learners and uploading of assessment outcomes\scores by schools.

Accessing the CBA portal: URL

Schools, Parents and Guardians shall access the CBA Portal using the web address: https://cba.knec.ac.ke or through the KNEC website: https://www.knec.ac.ke / KNEC Portal by clicking on the link, CBA Portal.

Schools shall login using their username and password
Click on Enter Username and Enter Password to key in the username and password respectively.
Click the login button to access the school home page.
Schools that have forgotten their username and password should contact the Sub County Director of Education (SCDE) for reset of passwords. Password Security. Keep It Secure, Safe and Private. Sharing your username and password may seem harmless, but it can open up access to confidential data.

CBA PORTAL HOME PAGE
Upon successful login, a window with menu items shall open for schools to access various functions in the system.
Open the Grade / Level by clicking to perform various tasks by selecting specific button

UPDATE SCHOOL DETAILS

To update school details, click on the Update School Details button, key in school details and the update button.

INSTRUCTIONS ON CONDUCT OF ASSESSMENT

This is the first menu item containing all instructions on the conduct of the assessments.

Click on the button to open the next window
Select and Click on the or button to view and/or download the general or grade/level specific instruction as shown in figure 5 above.

REGISTRATION OF LEARNERS

Click the Register Learners button to generate the interface below for schools to register leaner(s) to their school.

How to Add New learner(s)

To register new learners, click to open the next window.
Provide learner details and save.

How to Transfer / Add learner(s) from Another school

To register learner(s) from other schools, click transfer/ Add Learner from Another School
A window shall be generated to key in the learner’s assessment number, view learner details and transfer.
If the learner Assessment number is not known, use the school code for the previous school to search for the learner and acquire the Assessment number.
View learner details and click the Transfer Button.
The head teacher at the school where the learner is currently registered will be prompted to accept/ decline the transfer request.

Accept / Decline Transfer requests

Requested transfers for learners to other schools shall be viewed under the Transfer Requests for the specific grade / Level button.
To accept transfer of a learner to another school, click ‘ACCEPT’ button. Learners whose transfer has been accepted shall automatically be removed from the current school list and transferred to the other school.
To decline transfer of a learner to another school, click ‘DECLINE’ button and you will be prompted to select/ specify the reason for declining.
Schools can follow up with the SCDE to resolve issues on declined transfers.

LEARNER PROGRESSION/ MOVEMENT

Schools shall be able to manage progression of learners from foundation to intermediate, all the way to vocational level and from stage based to age based and vice versa.

Progression / movement of a learner to a higher Level / Grade

Click the progression of learners button to view and move a learner(s) by selecting the desired Level / Grade.
Click the Move learner button and the learner will be automatically moved to the selected Level / Grade.
Learner progression / movement from Age based to Stage based

The same steps for progression / movement of a learner shall be followed to move learner from Age based to Stage based and vice versa.

ASSESSMENT MATERIALS/ TOOLS

This menu provides access to the assessment materials.

Steps for downloading Assessment Materials/Tools

Click on the button to open the below window to view and download Instructions and Assessment tools categorized by grade/level and Learning Area.
Select and click on the button for the specific Learning Area to download specific assessment materials/ tools.
Select the appropriate tools for learners in your schools and Click on the button to save the assessment tool.

CAPTURE ASSESSMENT OUTCOMES

Steps to capture Assessment Scores/ Outcomes

Select the Grade / Level
Click the Capture Assessment Outcomes button to open the learning areas.
Click Capture Assessment Outcomes for the specific learning area to capture and save outcomes for each learner.

Steps to amend/ edit Assessment Scores/ Outcomes
Click on View/Edit Outcomes button to generate the window.
Click Amend Outcomes button for the specific learner to edit/ amend their outcomes.

REPORTS

Schools can view, download, or print various reports from the CBA portal by clicking on the specific report button.

Nominal Roll

To generate the Norminal Roll of a specific Grade / Level as shown below, click the button.

Outcomes Report

To generate the Outcomes Report of a specific Grade / Level, click the button to view learners’ outcomes.

ONLINE QUESTIONNAIRE

Where Schools are required to provide administrative feedback for a specific Grade / Level, they shall access the questionnaire following the steps below:

Click the button under Administrative Feedback to provide information for use to establish how Monitoring Learner Progress was undertaken in schools.

PARENTS/GURDIANS VIEWING THEIR LEARNERS’ DETAILS

Parents/ Guardians shall be able to view their Learners details and the status of their SBA scores/ outcomes using the Learner’s Assessment number following the steps below:

Access the CBA Portal using the link https://cba.knec.ac.ke or through the KNEC website: https://www.knec.ac.ke / KNEC-Portal by clicking on the link, CBA Portal.
Click on the button to open the window below to select your Child / Learner’s Grade/ Level and input the Assessment Number.
NB: Parents/ Guardians MUST select the correct Grade/ Level and provide the Valid Assessment Number for their child / Learner to proceed. As indicated, they should

Parents/ Guardians shall therefore view the following details about their learner.

UPPER HILL SCHOOL’S BRIEF HISTORY

Lord Delamere, a British Settler founded the School in 1956 and was initially named after him “Delamere School”.

It was mainly for Europeans Boys and Girls who could not make it to Duke of York (now Lenana School) or Prince of Wales (now Nairobi School) which were the only Schools European Children attended. In 1959, the Girls remained at Lady Delamere Girls (now State House Girls) while the Boys moved to Lord Delamere School.

In 1969, the School changed its name to “Simba Secondary School “ then later to the present Upper Hill School, named after the Area and Road where the School is situated. It is located along Upper Hill Road, next to the British High Commission Offices and Don Bosco Church on the same Road and rests on a 13.6 Acres piece of Land.

Beginning the Year 1997, the School began to change gradually from Day to Boarding and finally became Full Boarding in 2004. It currently accommodates 1000 Students who all board. Initially, the Delamere Hostels hosted the few Students who were Bright and Needy then but over the Years, more Dormitories had to be put up to facilitate the necessary numbers.

Currently, the School has 17 Dormitories, a Modern Computer Laboratory, Multi-purpose Hall, Science Laboratories, Administration Block and 20 Classrooms(Tuition Block), a Library, Kitchen and Ten Houses for the Resident Teachers. The School has 12 Heads of Department and 45 Subject Teachers( 7 on Teaching Practice), 34 Non-Teaching Staff and 1000 Students. The Student Body is divided into Five Streams per Class named after Colours – Red, Yellow, Blue, Green, and White. The School Motto is “Strive for Excellence” and its Vision is “To be a Leader and a Role Model Academic Institution of Choice both Nationally and Internationally”

UPPER HILL SCHOOL’S KCSE PERFORMANCE ANALYSIS

The school has maintained a good run in performance at the Kenya National Examinations Council, KNEC, exams. In the 2018 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education, KCSE, exams the school registered a total of 225 candidates who managed to score a mean of a B+(plus) with a performance index of 66.854.
