Background Information

Kenya Medical training College (KMTC) Kapkatet campus was started as an initiative of the KMTC Board of Directors and a group of local community members who saw the need of establishing a Campus to serve the then districts of Kericho, Kipkelion, Bureti and Bomet. When former President Mwai Kibaki visited the area, the locals seized the opportunity and requested for a training college.

This request was granted and in September 2007, KMTC Kapkatet started with 50 Clinical Medicine students. The community requested for some structures within the hospital to be converted into classrooms, offices, library, kitchen, dining hall, skills lab, administration and hostel.

Background Information

Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) Embu Campus is situated one kilometer from Embu town, along Embu-Meru highway behind Embu Level Five Hospital, in Embu County.

Started in 1975 by missionaries as a Health Training College, it remained under Sister Barry’s administration as the Principal until 1987 when Kenya Medical Training College took over management of the Campus, offering Enrolled Community Nursing Certificate course. The KMTC Embu Campus was officially opened by Hon. Kenneth Matiba in 1987.

Facilities

The Campus has high-class facilities, many of which are new or have been recently renovated to cater for students’ training needs. It also has a well-equipped library networked with unlimited access to internet for both students and staff.

There is also a well-equipped computer lab where students receive world-class training from faculty members with knowledge and dedication to make your dreams come true.

There are fully equipped skills labs, with life-like models to provide you with opportunities to freely master nursing and medical skills before visiting clinical areas to deal with real patients.

Classes, conference rooms, staff offices, library and dining hall are all available to ensure students’ conducive learning atmosphere and welfare.

Staff quarters are situated near the Campus so that faculty and staff can conveniently take care of students’ learning needs. In addition, a house keeper resides within the Campus premises to cater for students’ needs.

The Campus has students’ accommodation facilities to make their access to learning areas more convenient.

Currently, with over 750 students, Embu Campus has continued to produce competent health workers who are serving in the County and beyond in various capacities.

Clinical Experience Sites

Our close proximity to Embu County Teaching and Referral Hospital ensures that our students get the much-needed exposure to competent staff, top-of-the-range equipment and other facilities.

For clinical experience, our students are attached to Kiritiri, Kianjokoma and Kibugu health centers, and other local health facilities which familiarize them with real-life experience in the communities where they will eventually work upon graduation. Our team of dedicated and experienced lecturers make weekly visits to follow up on the performance of students.

Clubs, Societies and Sports

You will become a member of active clubs and a vibrant student representative council at the Campus, which represents students’ grievances to the administration. Among the clubs are Changerz, which advocates for behavior change among students in and outside the Campus.

We also have vibrant religious groups to nourish your spiritual needs. Student Facilitating Club (STUFFAC) for nursing and clinical medicine students guides you throughout your student life, ensuring you master important medical skills in the lab before you go to the clinical areas to deal with real patients.

Background information

 

Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) Kabarnet Campus is situated in Baringo County within Baringo County Referral Hospital, approximately 1.5 kilometers from Baringo County Headquarters.

 

The history of Kabarnet Campus dates back to 1991 when it was established as a Medical Training Center at the then Baringo District Development Institute (BDDI), now Baringo Kenya School of Government (K.S.G).

During the same period, the Government of Kenya through the Ministry of Health had proposed to build Kabarnet Medical Training Center, now KMTC Kabarnet Campus, on an eight-acre plot set aside adjacent to Kabarnet District Hospital (now Baringo County Referral and Teaching Hospital). The project commenced in 1991 with the then Rift Valley Provincial Commissioner Mr. Yusuf Haji laying the foundation stone on 22nd May 1991.

Background Information

Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) Chwele Campus is situated in Kabuchai Constituency, Bungoma County, off Bungoma/ Kimilili junction South of Sichei Mixed Boys and Girls Secondary School.

It is situated on a 29½ acre land which was procured by the Constituency Development Fund by the then area Member of Parliament Hon. Moses Wetangula and constructed with the support of the Iranian Government at a cost of Kshs. 90 million.

KMTC Chwele Campus officially opened its doors for admission of its pioneer class offering Certificate in Health Records and Information on 23rd September, 2014 with 101 students.

In September 2017, the Campus started an Up-grading Diploma in Health Records and Information Technology. This is a two-year program which allows students who have done the certificate course to upgrade to a diploma.  Admissions take place twice a year, in March and September to meet competitive demand of health workers within the country and internationally. Currently there are 250 students.

At KMTC Chwele Campus, we will assist you to apply for your dream course. We have an admissions desk officer who will guide on KMTC wide range of courses and also assist you to apply online, free of charge. At KMTC Chwele Campus the doors are open to stakeholders, the community and students to come partner, visit and learn. In the near future the college envisions to have a referral hospital as this was the dream of the community on conception.
