Background Information

 

KMTC Kaptumo Campus was officially opened by H.E. the Deputy President Hon William Ruto on 2nd August, 2015. It is located in the North Rift, 55 Kilometres South West of Eldoret town. It is situated within Nandi County, at Kaptumo peri-urban centre next to Kaptumo Sub County Hospital. The Campus, whose infrastructure is majorly funded by the KMTC Board of Directors and Aldai Constituency Development Fund, occupies a five-acre piece of land.

KMTC Makindu Campus

Background Information

Makindu Campus started in September 2015 through the initiative of the Government of Makueni County in partnership with the KMTC Board of Directors. The first programme to be introduced was Diploma in Clinical Medicine, a three -year program and in March 2016, three and a half year Diploma in Kenya Registered Community Health Nursing was introduced. In September 2017, a two-year Certificate course in Orthopedic Plaster was also started followed by a certificate course in Medical Engineering in March 2019.

Initially, the Campus was housed at Makindu Sub County Hospital Trauma Centre awaiting construction on a five-acre piece of land allocated by the County Government.

In June 2016, the students relocated to the first two classrooms constructed by the County Government and on 7th December the same year His Excellency the President Uhuru Kenyatta, officially commissioned the Campus.

The pioneer group of 44 clinical medicine students graduated in December 2018 while the pioneer Nursing and Orthopedic Plaster Technology students are set to qualify in July 2019.

We plan to start an in-service upgrading programme for certificate in Orthopedic Plaster to diploma in Orthopedic Trauma Medicine which is a one- year course.

The Embu Campus Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) is one of the 71 KMTC Colleges in Kenya. The college is located at along Embu-Meru highway, almost a kilometer from Embu town, next to Embu Level 5 Hospital in EmbuCounty. It is headed by Principal Mr. Dennis Kibet Siabei.

This college became operational from 1975.

In order to join the Kenya Medical Training College, you have to apply online through the KMTC website: https://www.kmtc.ac.ke.

There are two intakes during an academic year, the March intake and the September intake.

Upon successful application, the candidate will join the college either in March or September.

This campus hosts a student population of over 750. However, the number is expected to increase with future intakes.

Course duration for KMTC Certificate Courses is 2 years with the exception of nursing which takes 2 ½ years. 3 years for the Diploma Courses except Community Health Nursing which lasts 3 ½ years.

Embu Campus KMTC Minimum Entry Requirements for Certificate, Diploma, and Higher Diploma Courses

The minimum entry requirement for admissions to pursue a KMTC Certificate Course is a minimum aggregate of C- in KCSE. In addition, specific qualifications in cluster subjects will be looked into.

For Diploma Courses: a minimum mean grade of C plain (or its equivalent) in KCSE is mandatory, in addition, a combination of other subjects such as English, Kiswahili, Biology, Biological Sciences, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, and Physical Sciences, matters a lot.

Higher Diploma Courses require a minimum of a basic Diploma in relevant fields, and at least a minimum of two years working experience.

Other than using the Embu Level 5 Hospital next to the Campus, students also use Rural Health facilities within and outside Embu County for their clinical experience. These clinical areas include:

In order for our students to gain a hands-on experience and specialized placement, the various County Teaching and Referral Hospitals are also used.

How much is the KMTC application fee?

The institution charges a non-refundable fee of Kshs. 2,022.00. All applications are made online. The application fee is payable via M-Pesa pay bill number 964150 following the procedure outlined on the institution’s website.

KMTC Eldoret Campus

Background Information

Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) Eldoret Campus is located in Eldoret town within Uasin-Gishu County, next to Moi Teaching & Referral Hospital. It was established in 1977 as a School of Nursing, training Kenya Enrolled Community Health Nursing (KECHN).

In 1987, Hospital Maintenance School was established with the aid of Austria and German Governments and Ministry of Health, Kenya. The population per intake was 12 students per class.

In 1991, the School of Nursing was upgraded to train Kenya Registered Community Health Nursing (KRCHN), with an intake of 30 students per class and training of certificate course was stopped. In 1996, Nursing and Hospital Maintenance Schools were merged to form the current KMTC Eldoret Campus.

In September 2003, Certificate in Medical Engineering was upgraded to Diploma with an increased number of intakes from 12 to 25 students per class. In the same year, Diploma in Clinical Medicine was started with an intake of 50 students per class. Higher Diploma in Anaesthesia was started in 2006 while in-service Medical Engineering was started in March 2014.

KMTC Eldoret is home of athletics, and is one of the leading Campuses in athletics. When you join the Campus, you will enjoy a variety of sports offered such as netball, football, rugby, hockey, basketball, darts and indoor games.

We also have clubs which advocate for behavior change among students in and outside the Campus like students’ team of counsellors and educators, charitable groups, videography and environment group. The students are also allowed to form clubs that are beneficial to the Campus.

How to Select Grade 10 Subjects and schools

To select Grade 10 schools and subjects under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) in Kenya, Grade 9 learners should first choose a career pathway (STEM, Social Sciences, or Arts & Sports Science). Then, they’ll select three subject combinations within that pathway and finally, choose four schools for each combination, totaling 12 schools. To select preferred Grade 10 Schools and Subject Combinations, use the Ministry of Education portal selection.education.go.ke.
  1. 1. How you can Choose a Career Pathway:

    • Identify your interests and potential career aspirations.
    • Select one of the three pathways: STEM, Social Sciences, or Arts & Sports Science.
    • Confirm your choice to proceed with the pathway.

KMTC Webuye Campus

Background Information

Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) Webuye Campus was established in 2005 courtesy of the KMTC Board of Directors, the then area Member of Parliament for Webuye Hon. Musikari Kombo and the local community. The Campus is located in Webuye East.

It was started as an initiative of the community and supported by the CDF Webuye. The local CDF is credited for having funded the construction of all lecture halls and dining hall. Apart from Webuye Constituency, other development partners include the neighbouring Kimilili Constituency. The computer Lab was partially funded by Kimilili CDF and completed by Webuye East CDF. Bungoma County and Webuye Municipality have also given financial support through the LATF.

Webuye Campus opened its doors to students in October 2005 with a pioneer group of 82 diploma in Clinical Medicine and Surgery students. In March 2007, the Department of Nursing was introduced and 37 Kenya Registered Community Health Nursing (KRCHN) students were admitted. In 2010, upgrading course in Enrolled Community Health Nursing started. In March 2011, the Campus started offering a Diploma in Community Health Nursing and in 2013, the Department of Health Records and Information was started with 50 students undertaking a two year certificate course.

The Campus has a multipurpose hall with a capacity of 500 persons.

The Campus also has a well-equipped skills lab to introduce students to practical lessons before going out for clinical experiences.

The Campus has accommodation facility for both male and female students.

Currently with more than 160 students, the population has continued to grow, as demand for learning opportunities increased.

Clinical experience sites

The students mainly undertake clinical placements at Webuye Sub-County Hospital which is situated about 750 metres away and at Bungoma Sub-county Hospital.

There are some special clinical placements which are undertaken in the following health facilities approved by the professional regulatory bodies:

  • Kabuchai
  • Makunga

For rural community health experience the students are also attached at County Teaching and Referral Hospitals such as Nakuru, Kakamega, Kisumu, Siaya and Kisii for psychiatry experience.

Clubs, societies and sports

Sports are part and parcel of our extra curricula activities that involve students at various levels in line with the sports policy. The Campus has actively participated in all the previous College games, posting exemplary performance.

We boast of a strong volley ball, football, basketball, badminton, table tennis, net ball and volley ball teams. In athletics, we have had several trophies in races such as 10,000 meters, a 100 meters among others.
