Kenya’s Population Grows To 47.6 Million People; Census latest news
Kenya’s population has grown by 9.9 million people over the last ten years to reach 47.6 million this year; 2019. According to the 2019 Kenya Population and Housing Census results presented to President Uhuru Kenyatta on Monday November 4,2019 at State House Nairobi, the total population enumerated during the census exercise conducted in August this year was 47,564,296 persons.
The results indicate that the female population which stands at 24,014,716 accounts for 50.5 percent of the total population while the male population is 23,548,056 persons.
The 2019 census report, presented to the Head of State by Director General of the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) Zachary Mwangi shows that Nairobi is the most populous county in the country with a population of 4.4 million people followed by Kiambu (2.4), Nakuru (2.16), Kakamega (1.87) and Bungoma (1.67).
The least populous counties are Lamu(143,920), Isiolo (268,002), Samburu (310,3217), Tana River (315,943) and Taita Taveta (340,671).

Speaking when he officially launched the census report, President Kenyatta said the findings will guide successful planning and implementation of government development initiatives, including the Big Four Agenda programmes.
The President asked KNBS to release other census reports as scheduled and directed all arms of government to make use of the results in their planning processes.
“These results now provide us with a unique opportunity to realign our development strategies, policies and programmes.
“I therefore direct all Ministries, Departments and Agencies to utilise these results,” the Head of State instructed as he urged other arms of government including counties to utilise the results in their planning processes.
In addition to being the first census under the 2010 constitution, it was also the first such exercise in the history of Kenya where technology was fully deployed.
“I am proud to note that the mobile devices used in the census were assembled by our local universities and data capture software was internally developed by the Bureau (KNBS),” the President said of the national exercise that was fully funded by the government.
Cabinet Secretaries Fred Matiang’i (Interior), Joe Mucheru (ICT) and Ukur Yattani (National Treasury) were among several senior government officials at this year’s census results launch ceremony.
Full list of winners in KSSSA term one games in Mombasa 2025
The hierarchy of the National School competition was altered as the Brookside KSSSA National Secondary School Term One school games wrapped up in Mombasa on Saturday, April 12, 2025.
Schools from the Western region of Kenya solidified their supremacy with their near perfect performance indicating the region’s recognition as a center for sports development and talent.
Butere Girls, whose ‘Echoes Of War’ play in the national college and drama festivals has stirred considerable attention, demonstrated their “Queens of the Courts’ status in Basketball with a third consecutive nationals final.
The Kakamega County-based school achieved a 76-53 victory over the coastal-based Kaya Tiwi.

In rugby, Vihiga High secured the Rugby 15s boys’ championship after defeating Kisii School 14-6 in an exhilarating final that witnessed the two teams from the western region of Kenya compete for the new national rugby 15s title.
Kisii School, the representatives from Nyanza, had overthrown the defending champions and East Africa champions, All Saints of Embu, in the semifinals to set up a match against Vihiga.
Laiser Hill broke the Western school dominance by winning the basketball boys’ national title after narrowly defeating defending champions Dr Aggrey.
The victory fulfilled the team’s commitment to avenge a loss suffered in 2024 against their coastal opponents.
Other victorious teams included Musingu Boys and Kimilili’s St Luke’s Boys who maintained their Hockey and Handball titles with wins against St Anthony’s and St Albert Kamito Boys respectively.
Kimilili halted Kamito’s surprising comeback in the national games with a final score of 35-18.
The West Pokot county team, Kamito, had defeated Nyanza representatives Manyatta in the semifinals.
Meanwhile, Moi Girls Kamusinga’s 24-14 victory over St Joseph Girls from Kitale marked a complete sweep for the Western team in handball games.
Tigoi Girls from the Western region also retained their title in the girls’ category. Salome Anyango’s decisive shot in the 50th minute capped a memorable 3-2 win over St Joseph Girls Kitale.
The team’s focus now shifts to intensifying preparations for the Federation of East Africa School (FEASSSA) Games.
The East Africa games will return to Kenya in 2025 starting in August this year.

2023 Science and Engineering Fair latest news
More than 100 secondary students have taken part in Kenya Science and Engineering Fair (KSEF) at the Khamis Secondary School in Mombasa County, where they showcased remarkable innovation projects.
The Kenya Science and Engineering Fair, offers school students across the republic, a chance to become motivated by science and to discover scientific research as it encourages innovative thinking, for practical solutions in everyday life.
The President had earlier stated during Kenya Innovation Week expo (KIW) on December 6th 2022 at the Sarit Centre in Nairobi, that innovation has the power to catalyze productivity, generate gainful employment and create affluence for Kenyans.
He had noted that it is through innovation that it was possible to easily re-imagine and re-engineer the economy of the country.
According to KSEF, Mombasa County Executive Secretary, Cecil Musembe, about 39 schools that qualified from the different Sub-counties, showcased their schemes before judges under different categories.
Musembe said that KSEF, which was earlier known as Science Congress, did away with setting annual themes, so as to allow the student to venture into different fields without limiting their potential unlike the previous panel of Science Congress.
“Considering the mesmerizing presentations that we are getting from the students, I can tell you as a matter of fact, that we really have a future full of potential and electrifying innovations from the young scientists,” Musembe revealed.
Formerly, the events mainly involved projects in Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics and Biology, Agriculture, Computer Science and Applied Sciences.
Currently, according to Musembe, there are 13 different fields for the students to base their innovations such as Mathematics, Physics, Biology and Biotechnology, Environmental science and management, Technology and Applied Technology and Transportation, Computer Science, Agriculture, Food economics and Home economics, Behavioral Science and lastly Robotics.
The Government, Musembi noted, is very keen on nurturing a culture of innovation to accelerate economic growth in the country, through Kenya National Innovation Agency (KeNIA).
KeNIA has unveiled a digital marketplace for Kenyan innovators, researchers and startups to easily connect with their respective investors through Kenya Innovation Bridge (KIB), whose launch was profoundly supported by the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO).
The regional level of this competition is programmed to take place in Voi between 12th and 16th of April 2023 for the top innovative projects.

Bhang Worth Millions Nabbed In Church
Police officers nabbed 26 bags of bhang in a church in Ongata Rongai on Tuesday, following a tip-off by members of the public.
Kajiado North Deputy County Commissioner James Taari said that the church activities were revealed after angry residents followed a trail of stolen sheep, which were then found, with suspects found slaughtering the animals.
According to Taari, a confrontation erupted between members of the public and a section of the congregation, with the former overpowering the latter. The police then intervened and came to the rescue of the congregants.
The DCC noted that the police found bhang worth millions of shillings, adding that several electronic gadgets suspected of having been stolen were also found in the church.
“Residents suspect the slaughtering of the sheep was to celebrate their supposed achievement of having bhang,” said Taari, adding that he suspects that members of the church are bhang users, noting that they are considering arresting all of them for proper investigations.
The DCC thanked members of the public for the crucial tip-off of the illegal substances, saying they would be taken to the station while awaiting the court’s decision on the next possible action.
He warned the surrounding churches against such activities and that the government would be on their trail to ensure all culprits were brought to justice.
IbuProfen or Paracetamol? Which of the two drugs should be used by CoronaVirus patients to treat fever
The world Health Organiztion, WHO, has advised patients suffering from COVID-19 disease to stop taking IbuProfen pain killers with immediate effect. Ibuprofen pain killers are anti-inflammatory drugs used to alleviate pain. According to research in France, Anti-inflammatory drugs could worsen effects of the virus.
Experts warn that Paracetamol should be used with caution since too much of it can cause severe damage to the liver.
But in a rejoinder, the WHO on Wednesday was quick to dispel assertions that usage of Ibuprofen for CoronaVirus should be discontinued. “At Present, based on currently available information, WHO does not recommend against the use of Ibuprofen,” a Presser from the WHO said.
“We are also consulting with Physicians treating COVID-19 patients and are not aware of reports of any negative effects of Ibuprofen, beyond the ;usual known side effects that limit its use in certain populations,” they added.
WHO says they are not aware of published clinical or population based data on this topic.
More than 200,000 people have now been confirmed with the coronavirus globally. At-least 83,000 people have recovered from COVID-19, while more than 8,000 have died so far. This is according to data from Johns Hopkins University in the US. Italy and France have had their highest numbers of deaths from coronavirus in a day, with the duo recording 475 and 89 more fatalities respectively.
By Wednesday, the total number of cases of COVID-19 shot up to Seven (7), as reported by Kenyan Ministry of Health.
