July 2020 TSC teachers new salaries

May 31, 2025 Maverick John

The teachers service commission (TSC) is set to increase the teachers salaries next month (from July 1, 2020) as it implement the fourth and final phase of salary increments as per the 2017-2021 collective bargaining agreement (CBA.)

Teachers in lower cadres have nothing, though, to smile about as they will be missing out on the list of beneficiaries. This is because their increment was awarded in two phases (2017 and 2018). Those to miss out are secondary school teachers who are holders of Diploma in Education at grade C1 (formerly job group H) and all primary teachers at Job group B5 (formerly job group G) who have not completed three teaching years.

But, close to 100,000 teachers from the lower grades will be promoted under the 2020/2021 TSC budget starting July this year. Of these teachers, half are in secondary schools with diploma qualifications. Primary school teachers who have taught for over 3 years, who fall under grade B5 and presently take home Sh24,476, will now be moved up to C1 to earn Sh30,595 per month.

The chief principals in T scale-15 will continue to rip big from the increments. This includes all Principals in the National and Extra County Schools , which have over 1000 students. In the current pay, they earn a salary of between Sh121,814 and Sh157,656 per month. This category of teachers will get a salary increment of up to Sh9,496, where the lowest earner in this group will walk home with a salary of up to Sh131,380 while the highest, and the over joyed teacher, will in this group will earn Sh157,656 per month, which will be effective as from 1st July, 2020.

The Senior Principals, in T scale-14, who head County Schools which have over 540 students are also among the highest gainers in this phase. These Principals, are currently earning a monthly salary of between Sh109,249 and Sh118,169. In the new phase, they are set to receive a whooping increase of between Sh3,721 and Sh8,993. As thus, they will then earn a monthly package of between Sh118,242 and 121,890 per month at the end of July, 2020.

In the new phase, the lowest earner, will in this category get an increase of between Sh10,794 to earn a new salary of Sh104,644 while the highest earner will get a top up of Sh1,837 to get a new monthly salary of Sh104,644.
